Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Reduce false positives by validating findings in context, tuning the specific rule or scan condition causing noise, and keeping every suppression reviewable—not by broadly disabling alerts. First establish what your scanner covers, baseline its findings, then make new and confirmed risks actionable while checking that tuning has not created blind spots.
Start by establishing what the scanner actually covers
An alert is a hypothesis, not proof of a vulnerability. Static application security testing (SAST) analyzes source code, bytecode, or binaries without executing the application; dynamic application security testing (DAST) probes a running application. Neither necessarily sees every runtime condition, configuration detail, or business-logic fact, and similar-looking alerts from different scanners may rest on different evidence.

Before changing rules, document the conditions that shape the results:
- Scanner and version, enabled rules or policies, and the languages, frameworks, and build systems it supports.
- Code, build artifacts, and paths included or excluded from SAST; note whether excluded content is generated, test-only, or otherwise irrelevant to the production risk.
- For DAST, the target environment, authentication and credentials, crawl or endpoint scope, test data, and application states the scan can reach.
- Known limits, such as unavailable dependency source, missing build information, or framework behavior the scanner may not model.
This inventory helps separate a noisy detection rule from a scan that lacks the context needed to reach or interpret the relevant code or application state.

Build a baseline before making scans blocking
Run scans in report-only mode first so the team can understand existing noise and risk before a gate starts failing builds or pull requests. OWASP’s DevSecOps SAST guidance suggests a 2–4 week baseline and manual triage of 50–100 randomly selected findings. These are suggested starting points from that guidance, not universal requirements or measured industry benchmarks.
For each reviewed finding, capture its type, rule, location, relevant framework, evidence, disposition, and reviewer rationale. Once the baseline is understood, OWASP recommends gating on findings that are new since the baseline; this lets teams address legacy backlog without making every change fail because of old alerts.
Validate findings in their real context
For SAST: trace the flagged data flow
Follow whether untrusted input can reach the sensitive operation identified by the rule. Inspect the relevant call path, and account for framework validation or encoding and wrapper functions that may change how data is handled. A scanner may not recognize a framework-specific sanitizer or a project’s own safe wrapper. OWASP describes semantic analysis as understanding language idioms and framework conventions rather than syntax alone, which can reduce false positives for framework-specific patterns.

If a flow depends on a closed-source component, missing build information, or behavior the scanner cannot establish, do not label it harmless by default. Record the uncertainty and send it for review.

For DAST: reproduce the evidence safely
In an authorized test environment, inspect the request and response evidence and verify that the scan used valid authentication and reached the relevant application state. If the finding cannot be reproduced or the scan’s state is unclear, investigate that limitation before dismissing it.
Tune the source of noise, not the whole category
Group confirmed false positives by root cause before changing configuration. Common causes include unsupported framework semantics, missing taint, source, or sanitizer models, generated or test-only code, unavailable dependency source, stale signatures, overly broad rules, and incorrect DAST authentication or crawl scope.
Prefer the narrowest correction that addresses the cause: refine a rule, add a framework model, or exclude a justified path or endpoint. OWASP’s SAST guidance suggests disabling or scoping rules with an above-80% false-positive rate in the team’s own codebase, provided the decision is documented. That is a local tuning signal—not permission to ignore a high-impact vulnerability class or a universal acceptable error rate.
For every suppression or accepted risk, keep the record visible in the ordinary review workflow. Include:

- 【Up to 1100 Mbps VPN Speed 】 Hardware-accelerated WireGuard and OpenVPN-DCO deliver up to 1100 Mbps VPN throughput, over 3× faster than Brume 2 for smooth remote access and file transfers.
- 【Three 2.5G Ports & Multi-WAN】Tri-port 2.5GbE design with flexible WAN LAN configuration supports multi-gigabit wired setups, dual-ISP Multi-WAN and failover to keep home and SOHO networks online.
- 【Stealth VPN Obfuscation】VPN obfuscation disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS, helping you evade blocking, bypass restrictive networks and maintain stable, private connections.
- 【DPI protection】Deep Packet Inspection with visual dashboards blocks adult/gambling/malicious sites, while SQM and QoS prioritize gaming, calls, and video when bandwidth is tight
- 【OpenWrt & USB 3.0 Expansion】OpenWrt with 1GB DDR4 and 8GB eMMC lets you install plugins and build VPN, ad-blocking or NAS, while USB 3.0 Type‑C connects high-speed storage or 4G/5G dongles
- Rule or finding identifier and affected component.
- Evidence and the reason for suppressing or accepting the finding.
- Reviewer or risk owner and decision date.
- An expiration date or review trigger, plus any compensating control.
Revisit the decision when the code, framework, scanner rules, or threat context changes. A suppression without an owner or a reason to review it can quietly become permanent risk acceptance.
Make DAST scans representative and safe
Give DAST valid authentication and representative test data so it can reach the application states that matter. Track endpoints or pages reached alongside alert counts: a scan that reports few findings may simply have covered little of the application. OWASP’s DAST guidance also advises restricting destructive active tests in shared or production-like environments. Baseline known issues, route informational alerts to triage, and gate only on findings that meet your confirmation and severity policy.

A lower false-positive count is not, by itself, evidence of a better security program. NIST’s IR 8011 Volume 4 says no scanner test is fully reliable and calls for assessing both false-positive and false-negative rates. It also recommends considering detection coverage and timely rule or content updates.
Track measures that help explain both scanner performance and the team’s ability to act:

- Runs UniFi Network for full-stack network management
- Manages 30+ UniFi Network devices and 300+ clients
- 1 Gbps routing with IDS/IPS
- Multi-WAN load balancing
- 0.96" LCM status display
- Confirmed issues as a share of total findings, with false-positive dispositions broken down by rule.
- Age of unresolved findings, new high-severity findings, and time to validate and remediate.
- Code or endpoint coverage, so a low alert count can be interpreted in light of what was actually scanned.
- False-negative checks using known vulnerable test cases, regression tests, independent review, or another suitable verification method.
There is no universal acceptable false-positive rate established by these sources. Set local targets according to the system’s risk, the team’s validation capacity, and representative tests; suppressing noise too aggressively can also increase the chance of missing vulnerabilities.
Use scanners as one part of verification
Automation supports vulnerability management; it does not replace investigation, ownership, risk decisions, or remediation. OWASP’s Vulnerability Management Guide cautions against the misconception that having a working security scanner is equivalent to managing vulnerabilities in IT environments.
NIST’s IR 8397, published October 6, 2021, recommends a layered developer-verification program that can include threat modeling, automated tests, static analysis, secret checks, built-in protections, black-box and structural tests, historical tests, fuzzing, web application scanning where applicable, and checks of included software. Choose methods that fit the system and its risks; no single scanner or technique establishes complete coverage.
