For the Shark AV2501S AI Ultra, tap the robot’s filter clean whenever you empty its dust bin, empty the self-empty base when debris nears the fill line, and clean the base filters on their separate monthly and yearly schedules. Switch the robot off before maintenance. Shark’s guide says not to expose any parts other than filters to water or other liquids.
Before you start
These instructions are for the AV2501S; Shark robots can differ in parts and care requirements. Follow the AV2501S Owner’s Guide for model-specific procedures. Turn off the robot before maintenance. Shark’s safety instruction is: “With the exception of filters, DO NOT expose any parts of the robotic vacuum cleaner to water or other liquids.”

How do I clean the Shark AV2501S filter?
Robot dust-bin filter
- Remove and empty the robot dust bin.
- Clear hair and debris from the anti-tangle comb at the back of the bin.
- Tap the robot filter clean over a trash receptacle. The guide recommends cleaning and reinserting it after each use for optimal suction.
- Reinstall the filter and bin fully, until the bin clicks into place.
Wash the robot dust bin itself only if needed, and remove the filter first. Do not wash the robot filter as part of this step.

Self-empty base filters
The base has its own pre-motor filters and post-motor filter; these are separate from the filter in the robot. Tap debris off over a trash receptacle, then rinse with cold water only—no soap. Let filters air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinstalling. Put the felt pre-motor filter in first and the foam filter second.

How often should I empty the self-empty base?
Empty the base dust bin when debris approaches its maximum fill line. Shark describes the base as holding up to 60 days’ worth of dust and debris, but that is a capacity claim, not a guaranteed schedule: actual fill rate depends on use and household debris.
- Press the release button and detach the base dust bin.
- Hold it over a trash receptacle and open its bottom lid using the release button.
- Lightly tap out remaining debris.
- Slide the bin back into the base until it clicks.
How often should I clean the base filters?

For both, tap debris off, rinse with cold water only, use no soap, and allow at least 24 hours to air-dry fully before reinstalling. The pre-motor set goes back with the felt filter first and the foam filter second.

How do I clean the brushroll and side brushes?
Brushroll
The brushroll is designed to remove hair wrap during cleaning. If hair or debris remains after continued cleaning, switch off the robot, open the brushroll door, and lift out the brushroll. Remove the debris, then reinstall the brushroll flat end first and click the door shut. Shark recommends replacing it every 6 to 12 months or when it is visibly worn.
Side brushes
Carefully unwind hair or string and wipe each side brush with a dry cloth. Snap it over its peg and spin it manually to check it is seated. Replace a brush if it is bent or damaged.

What else should I clean?
- Sensors and charging contacts: Gently dust the robot’s and base’s sensors and charging contacts with a dry cloth as needed. Keep the cliff sensors clean because dirt can make them work less effectively.
- LiDAR module: Periodically check for hair or debris and wipe it away gently. For a more thorough clean, turn off the robot and rotate the module clockwise five times with a cotton swab. Do not insert the swab into module openings.
- Wheels: Periodically clean the caster wheel, drive wheels, and their housings. Rotate the wheels while brushing away dirt.
