On a foldable, brightness and time spent on the large inner display are useful first checks; background apps and weak cellular signal can also contribute. There is no single expected battery-life figure for every foldable, and the settings available depend on its model and software.
Find what is using the battery first
Open Settings → Battery → Battery usage and inspect the apps or functions at the top of the list. The exact menu wording varies by phone. Android recommends checking usage before changing settings so you can focus on the likely cause rather than disabling features indiscriminately. Google notes that “Your screen is one of the biggest battery drainers.” Android’s battery guidance covers battery-use review and common settings to check.

Look for an app with unusually high background use, or a display and screen-on pattern that fits how you have been using the phone. A large inner screen is a reason to inspect display use, not by itself evidence of a fault.
Reduce display power use
- Lower brightness: Use adaptive brightness or reduce the level manually, especially when the inner screen is open in a dim environment.
- Shorten screen timeout: Set the display to turn off sooner when you stop using it.
- Review Always On Display: If your model offers it, turn it off or choose a tap-to-show option when you do not need the screen continuously visible.
These are reversible choices. Their actual effect depends on your usage; the available sources do not establish a universal percentage saving for any one setting.
Limit apps that drain power in the background
If an app shows unusually high background use, restrict its battery activity, put it to sleep, or uninstall it if you no longer need it. On Samsung Galaxy devices, a deep-sleeping app does not run in the background and works only when opened manually. That can delay its notifications or background refresh. Samsung advises checking the battery graph and managing apps that use more power than expected; its battery-drain guidance notes that menu paths can differ by model, software, and app.
Check signal, connectivity, and location
In areas with poor cellular coverage, a phone may use power searching for a signal. If you do not need connectivity for a while, airplane mode can prevent that search, but it also disables wireless connections until you turn them back on. Turn off other radios or location features only when you do not need them; doing so can affect calls, navigation, or connected accessories.

Choose power-saving settings to suit the situation
Power-saving mode can extend runtime by limiting background activity or high-power features, but the controls and effects vary by device. Samsung’s Australia support page lists Galaxy options that may include turning off Always On Display, limiting CPU speed to 70%, decreasing brightness by 10%, turning off 5G, and limiting apps or the home screen. These are listed as configurable options, not settings available on every Galaxy model. See Samsung Australia’s Power saving mode guide and check the options on your own phone.

Use the least restrictive combination that solves your problem, and reverse a change if it interferes with something you rely on.

Account for setup and software changes
Samsung says battery use may temporarily rise during the first days after setup while apps and services optimize, then normalize. It does not give a fixed period for that change. If drain began after setup or seems temporary, keep the phone’s software and apps current and restart it. Google’s Android battery guidance also recommends restarting and installing updates as troubleshooting steps.
Know what test results can—and cannot—tell you
Tom’s Guide reported 10 hours 55 minutes for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in a 2025 cellular web-surfing test using the 8-inch main display at its default adaptive refresh rate; the Galaxy Z Fold 6 scored 10 hours 35 minutes in the same published comparison. Those are results from that publisher’s specified test, not guaranteed everyday runtimes or a diagnostic threshold for an individual phone. Tom’s Guide’s test report describes the comparison. It does not establish how long a typical foldable should last in different people’s use.

When to contact support
If drain continues after you have reviewed battery usage, checked apps and settings, restarted, and installed available updates, contact the phone manufacturer for diagnosis. Samsung provides support and repair booking through its support channels; service availability and terms depend on location. A factory reset is a last resort, not the first battery fix: Android advises backing up your data before resetting.
