If you no longer have the phone number that receives your Amazon sign-in codes, first try a registered backup method or a device Amazon recognizes as trusted. If neither works, start Two-Step Verification Account Recovery from the sign-in screen and follow Amazon’s identity-verification instructions. Amazon will not change your Two-Step Verification settings until it verifies your identity.
Try a backup method or trusted device first
Amazon recommends trying a registered backup method or a device it recognizes as trusted before starting account recovery. If you can complete sign-in through one of those routes, you can update your security methods without going through the recovery flow. See Amazon’s account recovery instructions.

Amazon says it cannot change Two-Step Verification settings until your identity has been successfully verified. Its recovery guidance does not give a completion-time estimate or specify one document requirement that applies to every account. Follow the instructions Amazon presents for your account; do not rely on an assumed turnaround time or a universal document checklist. Amazon: Recover Your Account after Two-Step Verification Fails

Reduce the chance of another lockout
Two-Step Verification requires your account password plus a separate code. Amazon describes text-message and authenticator-app code delivery. Where your account settings allow, keep a reachable backup method and consider setting up an authenticator app so your only route is not a phone number you might lose access to. An authenticator app is an optional software-based security method; it does not bypass identity verification during recovery.
