If you use Two-Step Verification (2SV), check its enrolled phone number separately: changing your account contact number does not necessarily update the number that receives 2SV codes.
Before changing your number, confirm you can still sign in
Keep a working sign-in route while updating your details. Amazon sign-in may use a password, a one-time code, or a passkey, so the screen you see can vary. Confirm that you can use your current sign-in method, and keep any passkey or trusted device available during the change. Amazon’s sign-in guidance describes these different methods.

If 2SV is enabled, its enrolled phone number is managed in the Two-Step Verification settings under Login & security. Review that setting after changing your customer-account mobile number; do not assume the 2SV number changed too. Amazon’s 2SV instructions explain how to add or remove a phone number and add an authenticator app: Two-Step Verification.

Add a backup method before removing the old number
Where available, add and verify another phone number or an authenticator app before the old number becomes unavailable. An authenticator app can generate codes without a cell signal, according to Amazon’s 2SV guidance. Keep at least one usable method for receiving or generating codes.
Know which account’s number you are editing
Amazon customer-account contact details and an enrolled 2SV number are distinct settings. Amazon KDP also has account-specific phone details; its help notes that a KDP phone number can differ from the 2SV number on the Amazon customer account. That distinction applies when managing KDP, not as a substitute for checking the customer account’s own 2SV settings. See Manage Your KDP Account.
