Use the App Store Connect API to retrieve reviews from an app, inspect a specific review, and create or manage its developer response. The workflow uses two different resource IDs: an app ID to list reviews and a customer review ID to read an individual review or manage its reply. Replies may exist before Apple marks them as published, so verify their state before reporting them as public.
What you need before making API requests
Apple describes the App Store Connect API as “a REST API that enables the automation of actions you take in App Store Connect.” Requests require a JWT signed with the private key associated with an API key created in your organization’s App Store Connect account. Keep that key material secure. Apple cautions that API changes affect production data, so confirm the target app and intended operation before running scripts against a live account. Choose the review scope
For an overall feedback queue, list reviews for the app. For feedback tied to a particular release, Apple also documents retrieving reviews for a specific app store version. App-wide retrieval can return a larger set, so expect to paginate and use filters to focus the queue. Consult Apple’s Customer Reviews documentation for the available review operations.

GET https://api.appstoreconnect.apple.com/v1/apps/{id}/customerReviews, substituting the app resource ID for{id}. -
Apply filters or sorting if needed. The endpoint supports filters for rating, territory, review territory, and whether a response has been published. It also supports sorting by one attribute at a time, including rating or creation date, in ascending or descending order. Check Apple’s list reviews endpoint reference for exact parameter names and allowed values.

The list can include response and review-territory relationships. A filter for published responses is useful for finding reviews without a published reply, but it should not be treated as proof that no response object exists: a response may exist without yet being published.

Read an individual review
Use the customer review resource ID from the listing results, not the app ID, to retrieve an individual review: GET https://api.appstoreconnect.apple.com/v1/customerReviews/{id}. This endpoint returns review information, including its content. Apple documents response codes 200, 400, 401, 403, 404, and 429 for this operation. See the individual customer review reference.
Get or publish a response to a review
Use Apple’s Customer Review Responses resource to get, create or update, and delete a response. A review can have at most one response. The create-or-update operation is keyed to the customer review ID; using it again can replace the existing reply. Review the Customer Review Responses documentation for the operation details and request format.

Do not assume a successful write means customers can already see the reply. Apple distinguishes an existing response from a published response; check the response state or the published-response information before describing it as public. The API provides mechanisms to manage replies, not a way to automatically resolve the customer’s underlying issue.
Build a reliable review-monitoring workflow
- Keep IDs straight: use the app resource ID in the app-wide list route; use a customer review ID for individual review and response operations.
- Make pagination part of the job: follow returned page links rather than relying on a single request or a fixed page count.
- Use published status precisely: distinguish a response that exists from one confirmed as published.
- Handle authorization and limits: account for documented 401 and 403 authorization failures and 429 rate-limit responses; Apple links to rate-limit guidance from its API overview.
- Protect production data: validate the app, review, and requested change before automating response updates or deletions.
