To reach the castle bonfire, enter the Fortress with Fire Transmutation available. From Fortress > Chapel, descend through the underground area to the sewer, pass the pole-jump section, take the door on the left, and follow the stairs to the side room containing a sword planted in a bonfire. Cast Fire Transmutation on that sword. The flame catches immediately and the Frenzied Flame trophy or achievement notification appears.
What you need before entering the Fortress
The bonfire interaction is gated by progression rather than by a hidden switch or a combat challenge. Two conditions matter: you must be able to enter the Fortress, and you must have the Fire Transmutation ability. The route guides also place Fortress access after the University-key portion of the campaign and after obtaining the poison-protection progression. If either progression requirement is missing, reaching the room does not give you a different way to light the sword.

Fortress access
Advance the campaign far enough to use the University key and reach the Fortress. The relevant starting lanterns for this objective are Chapel and Ramparts. If neither location is available, continue the main progression before trying to follow the bonfire directions.
Fire Transmutation
Fire Transmutation is the required interaction for the sword. The bonfire is not lit by a conventional attack, a torch, or an item picked up in the room. Make sure the ability is available to use before entering the underground route. Both known paths end at the same sword, so the ability requirement does not change when you approach from Ramparts instead of Chapel.

Poison-protection progression
The access sequence described for this objective includes obtaining the poison-protection progression before entering the Fortress. Treat that as part of the preparation, not as an optional side upgrade. The trophy room is reached only after the Fortress becomes available in the intended campaign order.
Which route should you use?
Use the lantern you already have unlocked. Chapel gives the clearest underground sequence because the sewer and pole-jump area act as checkpoints for your memory. Ramparts is useful if that is your current position, but its landmarks are a ladder, a blue pole, a webbed or tendril-covered barrier, and a long hallway.

The final interaction is identical. There is no separate Ramparts version of the bonfire and no second ability to collect once you reach it.

Chapel route: step-by-step directions
This is the most direct route when you can fast-travel to or otherwise start at Fortress > Chapel. Read the sequence as a chain of landmarks rather than as a series of room names: underground area, sewer, pole-jump section, left door, stairs, left room.
- Start at Fortress > Chapel. Confirm that you are inside the Fortress and not at an exterior approach. The route begins by going down from the Chapel.
- Descend into the underground. Continue downward until the path brings you to the sewer room. Do not stop at the first interior chamber; the sewer is the next major landmark.
- Continue through the sewer area. Follow the underground path until you reach the pole-jump section. This traversal segment is the reference point for the next turn.
- Finish the pole-jump section and take the door on the left. The left-hand door is the route marker. If you continue straight past this point, you have missed the turn that leads toward the bonfire room.
- Go down the stairs. At the bottom of the first flight, turn left. The direction change occurs at the bottom, not at the top of the staircase.
- Descend the second flight. After turning left, continue down the next set of stairs. This second descent takes you to the level of the side room.
- Enter the room on the left. The target room is off the stair route rather than in a central hall. Once inside, look for the sword planted in the ground within the bonfire.
- Use Fire Transmutation on the sword. Aim the ability at the planted sword and activate it. The flame catches immediately, and the Frenzied Flame trophy or achievement notification should appear.
How to confirm you are in the correct room
The decisive visual cue is not a chest, a boss arena, or a conventional altar. It is a sword standing in the ground inside the bonfire. The sword is the object to target. If you are looking at a different fire without that planted sword, you have not reached the documented trophy location.
Ramparts route: step-by-step directions
Ramparts provides an alternate approach to the same underground room. This route is useful when your current lantern is Fortress > Ramparts or when you recognize the blue-pole and webbed-barrier landmarks more easily than the sewer route.

- Start at Fortress > Ramparts. Face back toward the building behind the Lantern. The route does not begin by pushing farther along the outside of the ramparts.
- Enter the building and find the ladder near the entrance. Descend that ladder into the large room below.
- Use the blue pole to swing to the left-hand door. The pole is the traversal landmark in this room. Your destination after the swing is the door on the left.
- Crouch under the webs or tendril barrier. Pass beneath the barrier rather than searching for another opening around it. This is the distinctive obstruction on the Ramparts route.
- Descend the stairs. Continue down after passing the barrier.
- Follow the long hallway. Stay on this corridor until you are near its end. The room is not immediately beside the stairs.
- Enter the bonfire room on the left. Near the end of the hallway, take the room on the left. Inside is the same sword planted in the bonfire reached by the Chapel route.
- Cast Fire Transmutation on the sword. The ignition is the completion condition, and the Frenzied Flame trophy or achievement notification should appear as soon as the flame catches.
Ramparts orientation cues
There are four useful checks if you lose your place: you should have started behind the Ramparts Lantern, gone down a ladder near the building entrance, used a blue pole in a large room, and passed under a webbed or tendril-covered barrier. If one of those landmarks has not occurred, you are probably still before the bonfire corridor.

Lighting the sword and triggering Frenzied Flame
The objective is completed by applying Fire Transmutation to the planted sword. The sword, rather than the surrounding fire, is the target described by the route instructions. Once the ability connects, the flame catches immediately. The notification is the direct confirmation that the game has registered the Frenzied Flame requirement.
What the notification means
The documented reward is the bronze Frenzied Flame trophy or its platform-specific achievement equivalent. You do not need to defeat a boss in the room, search for a hidden lever, or complete a second interaction after the sword ignites.

What is not documented as a reward
The route documentation does not report an item drop, a boss encounter, or a follow-up objective attached to this room. The bonfire ignition itself is the complete requirement. Do not delay the notification by treating the room as the start of another quest step.

You reached the room but cannot light the bonfire
Check the two documented prerequisites first: Fortress access and Fire Transmutation. The interaction is not described as available before those progression conditions. Also verify that you are targeting the sword planted in the bonfire. A nearby fire without that sword is not the identified objective.

Reconstruct the landmark order: Chapel, underground, sewer, pole-jump section, left door, first stairs, left turn at the bottom, second stairs, left-side room. The most important directional correction is after the first stair flight: turn left at the bottom before descending again. Entering the wrong side room or continuing past the left door will put you off the documented sequence.
You cannot find the room from Ramparts
Return to the building behind the Lantern and look for the entrance ladder. In the large room, the blue pole should carry you to the left-hand door. After crouching beneath the webs or tendril barrier, descend the stairs and follow the long hallway until the room on the left near the end. If you have not seen the blue pole or the barrier, backtrack to the large room rather than searching farther along the corridor.
The trophy notification does not appear
Confirm that Fire Transmutation was used on the planted sword and that the flame visibly caught. If the sword has not ignited, the game has not registered the required interaction. Recheck the ability requirement and the object you selected before leaving the room.
A compact checklist before you set out
- University-key campaign progression is complete enough to enter the Fortress.
- The poison-protection progression required for Fortress access has been obtained.
- Fire Transmutation is available to cast.
- You know whether you are starting from Chapel or Ramparts.
- From Chapel, you can identify the sewer, pole-jump section, left door, and two stair flights.
- From Ramparts, you can identify the entrance ladder, blue pole, webbed or tendril barrier, and long hallway.
- You will target the sword planted in the bonfire, not a different object.
Choosing between Chapel and Ramparts in practice
Chapel is usually easier to describe from memory because the sewer and pole-jump section narrow the route before the stair sequence. Ramparts can be faster when you are already at that lantern, since returning to Chapel would add an unnecessary repositioning step. Neither route changes the reward, the required ability, or the final sword interaction.

There is no reported boss, item reward, or additional room-specific objective that must be cleared to validate the trophy. You can leave the room or continue the campaign according to your own route.
Fastest reliable summary
If you are starting at Chapel, go underground to the sewer, pass the pole-jump section, take the left door, descend the stairs, turn left at the bottom, descend the second flight, and enter the room on the left. If you are starting at Ramparts, enter the building behind the Lantern, descend the nearby ladder, swing on the blue pole to the left-hand door, crouch under the webs or tendril barrier, descend, follow the long hallway, and take the room on the left near its end. In either case, cast Fire Transmutation on the sword planted in the bonfire. The immediate ignition and notification mark the Frenzied Flame trophy as earned.
