You can’t enter Menaphos in Old School RuneScape (OSRS): its gates remain closed. The nearby playable destination tied to Menaphos story content is the Necropolis, reached during the quest Beneath Cursed Sands.
Can you enter Menaphos in OSRS?
No. Menaphos is inaccessible to players in OSRS, and crossing the bridge does not let you enter the city. Jagex stated in its Tombs of Amascut: Raid Rewards update, reproduced on the OSRS Wiki, that “Menaphos will not be opening its gates just yet.” Do not use RuneScape 3 (RS3) access instructions for OSRS; they concern a different game.

How to reach the nearby Necropolis
The Necropolis southeast of Sophanem is the practical destination for the related story content. You reach it as part of Beneath Cursed Sands.

- Travel to Sophanem and speak with Jamila to start Beneath Cursed Sands.
- Follow the quest instructions to meet Maisa at the campsite east of Sophanem. Quest progression takes you to the Necropolis.
- Once there, if you have a Pharaoh’s sceptre, commune with the obelisk near the Necropolis mine. This unlocks the sceptre’s Jaltevas teleport for return trips.
The Jaltevas teleport takes you to the Necropolis, not into Menaphos.

Requirements and items for Beneath Cursed Sands
To start the quest, you must complete Contact! and have the following unboostable skill levels: 62 Agility, 55 Crafting, and 55 Firemaking. Contact! requires Prince Ali Rescue and Icthlarin’s Little Helper; Gertrude’s Cat is a prerequisite for Icthlarin’s Little Helper. The OSRS Wiki quest guide also lists these items as quest needs:
- Coal
- An iron bar
- A tinderbox
- A spade
- Cooked or raw meat
Some listed items can be obtained during the quest. These are quest supplies, not keys that open Menaphos. The quest guide also recommends preparing for desert heat and poison, bringing food and combat gear, and considering travel aids such as a Pharaoh’s sceptre, a Dramen staff for fairy ring AKP, or a way to teleport to Nardah.

Getting back to the Necropolis
Before the first visit, follow the quest route from Sophanem. For repeat trips, the Pharaoh’s sceptre provides a more direct option after you commune with the obelisk near the Necropolis mine to enable Jaltevas. Fairy ring AKP and a Nardah teleport are regional travel aids, but none of these methods grants entry to Menaphos.
