To maintain a robot vacuum, empty its bin, clear hair and debris from its brushes, clean or replace the filter as the manual allows, and gently wipe its sensors using the specified method. The exact schedule and safe cleaning method vary by model, so treat brand guidance as model-specific rather than a universal calendar.
What to clean, and in what order
- Pause or turn off the robot. Follow the model’s manual for safe access before removing parts.
- Empty the dustbin. Use the frequency and procedure specified for your robot.
- Clear the brushes. Remove brush assemblies only as directed. Pull away wrapped hair and debris from the brush bristles, ends, and edges, then reinstall the parts securely. For the Roborock S5, the manufacturer describes removing the side brush to clear hair and pulling out the main brush to clean its bristles and edges; it recommends using a tool to cut hair trapped at the brush edges. - Clean the filter only as permitted. Follow the exact model’s instructions; do not assume the filter is washable. For example, iRobot says the Roomba s Series filter should not be washed. Its care guidance is at iRobot’s Roomba s Series care page.
- Wipe sensors gently. Use the material and method in the manual. Roborock specifies a dry, lint-free cloth for the S5 sensors in its S5 cleaning guidance; other models may give different instructions.
- Check for wear and refit parts. Look for visible damage or wear, reinstall parts as instructed, and check the app or care chart for cleaning intervals and replacement reminders.
How often should you clean or replace parts?
There is no single schedule for all robot vacuums. These are manufacturer examples; use the care chart or manual for your exact model, and bear in mind that eufy says use affects maintenance frequency.

The differences between these schedules are substantial: for example, the cited eufy page gives a monthly side-brush cleaning interval, while the cited Roomba s Series page calls for monthly sensor and charging-contact care and more frequent brush care in pet homes. Do not transfer one manufacturer’s interval to another robot.

What to check when pickup gets worse
If the robot is collecting less debris, start with basic maintenance. iRobot’s Roomba s Series guidance says: “If you notice the robot picking up less debris from your floor, empty the bin, clean the filter and clean the brushes.” See its care and maintenance instructions.

If pickup does not improve after those checks, follow the error guidance for your model or contact its manufacturer. The available guidance does not establish one troubleshooting sequence that applies to every robot vacuum.
Choose replacement parts for the exact model
Brushes and filters are not interchangeable across all robot vacuums. Check the model number and the manufacturer’s compatibility guidance before ordering. eufy provides accessory purchase links through its RoboVac accessory guidance; iRobot directs owners to official or authorized sources through its Roomba care page. A part’s appearance alone is not enough to confirm fit.
