You can publish to Medium directly in Chrome using Medium’s web editor; no API token or third-party integration is needed. Sign in, choose Write, prepare your draft, then select Publish and review the settings Medium offers.
What you need
Use a desktop version of Google Chrome supported by Medium. Medium lists Chrome among the browsers that provide its full desktop experience, including composing and editing stories, on the two most recent versions of supported desktop operating systems. See Medium’s browser support guidance for current compatibility details.

Sign in to the Medium account that should own the story. This browser-editor workflow uses your signed-in account and Medium’s own interface rather than an API client.

Publish a new story in Chrome
- Open Medium and sign in. Use Chrome on your desktop.
- Select Write. Medium opens a new draft; drafts are automatically saved in the account’s Stories area.
- Compose and format the story. Type or paste your text. Select text to apply formatting or add a link. The editor also supports headings, subheadings, quote blocks, lists, and other features.
- Select Publish. Review the publishing options shown for your story. Depending on the options available to your account and story, these may include topics, title and subtitle, scheduling, and a preview image. If you are enrolled in the Medium Partner Program, the flow may also offer an engagement-based revenue eligibility setting.
- Choose Publish now to make the story available immediately.
Medium distinguishes drafts from published stories: a draft is not yet published, while a published story can be read from your profile and elsewhere. Changes you save to a published story become visible immediately. See Medium’s instructions for writing a story and how to publish one.

Move an existing webpage to Medium
If the material is already published on a webpage and you have the rights to republish it, Medium offers an import route as well as copy-and-paste.
Import by URL
- In Medium, open Stories → Import a story.
- Paste the webpage URL and start the import.
- Inspect the imported draft, correct any problems, and publish it through the normal publishing flow.
Medium says the import tool adds a canonical link to the source and backdates the story. The canonical link helps identify the original source; review the imported story before publishing because page interpretation can vary. See Medium’s import instructions.

Copy and paste if import fails
Medium’s importer may return an error or a blank page if it cannot interpret a source webpage. Start a draft instead, copy the content into the editor, restore omitted images or embeds, and repair the formatting. You can optionally set the source canonical link in the story settings. Medium’s import guidance describes this manual fallback.
What if the story is in Word or PDF?
Medium does not convert uploaded Word documents, PDFs, or other files into stories. Open the document, copy its text into a new Medium draft, and check the formatting in the editor; add images or other media separately as needed. See Medium’s writing guidance.

Why publish without an API?
Medium states that it will not issue new integration tokens for its API or allow new integrations; existing tokens continue to work. That policy concerns integrations, not ordinary publishing through the website. For a person publishing a story manually, signing in and using the editor is the direct route—no API setup is required. Check Medium’s API guidance for the current policy.
