Choose a safer way to sign in
PlayStation’s official guidance describes two sign-in routes: a passkey, or a password with 2-step verification. Which you can use depends on device and account support. Check the current instructions in PlayStation Account Management; menus and availability can change.

Set up 2-step verification and save recovery codes
For accounts using password sign-in, enable 2SV in Account Management’s Security section, following the current PlayStation 2SV setup instructions. PlayStation documents 10 backup codes; each can be used once. Store them securely, separately from your phone, and do not share them.
Protect your password and linked email
Use a different, strong password for PSN and for every other account. A password manager can generate and store unique passwords, a practice PlayStation recommends in its account security guidance.

Secure the email account linked to PSN with its own strong, unique password and sign-in protections. Someone who controls that inbox may be able to reset passwords for other services, access sensitive information, or impersonate you. Never reuse your PSN password for email.
Recognize PSN-themed phishing attempts
Scammers may pose as players, support contacts, or social-media users and try to create urgency or excitement. PlayStation warns about messages involving supposed beta or tournament invitations, claims that your account was reported by mistake followed by an offer to restore it, and requests to sign in through a link or reveal credentials to fix a problem.

Other lures promise free virtual currency, vouchers, gift cards, in-game items, or exclusive rewards in exchange for personal information or scanning a QR code. A familiar-looking PlayStation theme is not proof that a message or page is genuine.

PlayStation Support states: “Never share your account details with anyone else.”
- Do not enter credentials on a page opened from an unsolicited message, and do not scan a QR code sent by a stranger.
- Scan QR codes only when they come from an official PlayStation channel or another source you already trust.
- If a message claims there is an account problem, navigate to PlayStation through a route you already know and check your account there instead of using the message’s link.
- Do not pay or provide credentials to an outside service promising to recover your account. Use PlayStation Support and its Online Assistant for account recovery.
Reduce risk on shared devices and protect purchases
Avoid signing in on internet cafés, libraries, or public PlayStation consoles. If using a shared device is unavoidable, sign out when finished. PlayStation also offers a remote sign-out option; consult its current security guidance for the available controls.

A console login passcode can prevent someone who does not know it from logging in on that console. PlayStation also offers password protection for Store checkout, but says this feature is not compatible with accounts using passkeys. Checkout protection is a purchase safeguard, not a substitute for a secure sign-in method.
Respond quickly if something looks wrong
You received an unexpected account-change email
If you did not request a change, secure the linked email account first by changing its password. Then follow PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance and recovery steps. Contact PlayStation Support if you cannot change the PSN sign-in method.

Your sign-in ID, online ID, or password changed
If you see an unfamiliar sign-in ID, online ID, or password change, use PlayStation’s Online Assistant and account recovery guidance. The recovery page also directs you to the Online Assistant if you cannot access the account email or receive a verification or reset message.

You cannot receive a 2SV code
If a text code does not arrive, PlayStation recommends resending it, restarting your phone, and checking airplane mode and mobile signal. If the problem continues, contact support. If your phone is unavailable, use a saved one-time backup code. If you have neither the phone nor backup codes, contact PlayStation Support through its 2SV help instructions.

Your console was stolen or you see an unfamiliar payment
For a stolen console, PlayStation’s compromised-account guidance recommends signing out of PlayStation on all devices and deactivating consoles; consider removing payment methods as well. If you see a payment you do not recognize, check your transaction history and use official PlayStation refund guidance and support channels.
