Keep the factory-installed inner-screen film in place, check for debris before folding, and open the phone by its sides. Use a case fitted to your exact Galaxy Z Flip generation to protect the outer shell, but do not treat it as a shield for the inner display or hinge. If the film bubbles, cracks, scratches badly, or lifts, contact Samsung-authorized service rather than trying to replace it yourself.
Protect the inner screen during everyday use
Use a light touch
Samsung describes the foldable display as flexible glass with a protective film. Hard or sharp pressure can damage its layers, so use your fingertip gently and avoid pressing hard on the crease. Keep pens, keys, fingernails, and other hard points away from the panel; do not use a tool or fingernail to press or lift the screen.

Open and close it by the sides
Hold the phone by its sides when opening it. Do not put a finger between the folded display halves to pry them apart, and do not fold the phone backward against its intended direction.

Check for debris before folding
Before closing the phone, check between the halves and remove anything that could be trapped against the display, such as a key, coin, card, grain of sand, or other debris. Fold the phone before putting it away so the inner surface is not left exposed to objects in a bag or on a table. These habits reduce avoidable risks; they cannot guarantee that damage will not occur.

Leave the installed screen film in place
Samsung UK states that the film attached to the main screen of Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip devices is the official film for foldables. In its support page, updated October 22, 2024, Samsung warns that removing it or applying a non-official film may cause touch abnormalities or screen damage. Samsung France also recommends leaving the film in place and cautions that non-approved films can affect the device or sensors. Do not add an aftermarket film as a routine upgrade. If the installed film is damaged or detached, ask an authorized service provider about replacement for your model and location. Samsung describes the film as a consumable that can develop scratches, bubbles, or lifting through ordinary wear. Availability, appointment requirements, and warranty coverage depend on the country and model; check local terms instead of assuming replacement will be free.

If the film has already been removed
Samsung UK says touch may not work properly after removal because touch sensitivity was customized for the film. Its page advises turning off Touch sensitivity under Settings > Display in that circumstance. This is a contingency step, not a reason to remove the film.

Keep sand and other particles away from the folded phone, and avoid drops and strong impacts. Samsung’s cited care guidance gives handling and debris precautions, but does not establish a tested hinge shield or a specific hinge-cleaning method. Do not insert tools or swabs into the hinge, or put liquid there, based on this guidance. Samsung notes that external impacts can damage the display and damage may spread to surrounding areas.

Understand the limits of water and dust ratings
Ratings vary by model generation and region. Samsung Germany’s guidance, updated September 22, 2026, lists the Galaxy Z Flip6, Z Flip7, Z Flip7 FE, and Z Flip8 as IP48, and the Z Flip3, Z Flip4, and Z Flip5 as IPX8; the latter are not protected against solid-particle ingress. No rating makes the hinge dustproof. Samsung Singapore’s July 2022 guidance concerns an older device and calls it not water- or dust-resistant, so it should not be applied to newer generations. Avoid calling any model “waterproof” or “dustproof”; check the current local specifications for your exact phone. Choose accessories for what they actually protect

Samsung’s accessory example is specific to the Flip4. For any generation, check that a case is designed for the exact model rather than assuming a case for another Z Flip will fit.

When the screen film needs attention
If the film bubbles, cracks, scratches, or begins lifting, do not peel it off or try to apply a replacement yourself. Contact Samsung-authorized service and check local coverage and appointment availability.
