A Fios Voice Remote can use on-screen setup for a TV or receiver, and the Philips RC144 can program an audio receiver through its AUX mode. Verizon’s P265 remote is documented to control only the Fios set-top box and TV—not an audio receiver. Identify your remote before following a setup path.
Identify your Fios remote first
Check the model label or button layout. These procedures are not interchangeable: Voice Remote setup uses the Fios TV interface, the RC144 has an AUX key for an audio receiver, and the P265 is limited to the set-top box and TV. Verizon’s remote-control FAQ covers its remote families and replacement remotes; confirm compatibility with your set-top box before choosing a replacement.

Program a Fios Voice Remote with Fios TV One or One Mini
Pair the remote, if necessary
If the remote is not already paired with the Fios TV One or One Mini, hold Play/Pause and 0 until the blue light flashes, then point it toward the set-top box and follow any on-screen prompts.
Try automatic setup, then manual setup
- On the Fios TV interface, open Menu > Settings > Voice control > Fios TV Voice Remote > Program Voice Remote > Automatic Setup. Verizon says HDMI-connected TVs and audio systems should be detected after pairing. Look for the success message.
- If automatic setup fails, open Menu > Settings > Voice control > Fios TV Voice Remote > Program Voice Remote > Manual Setup. Select the receiver or TV brand and model, follow the prompts, and check for the success message.
Verizon documents the setup options and signal methods on its Fios TV Voice Remote support page. After setup, test volume, mute, and power separately; receiver setup does not establish that every function is supported.

Understand how commands reach the Sony system
The remote communicates with the set-top box wirelessly, but TV and AV commands are sent by infrared or HDMI-CEC. For infrared, point the remote at the receiver and keep a clear line of sight. For CEC, connect the components by HDMI and enable CEC on each one. If the system responds inconsistently, check which signal path you are using and whether CEC is enabled throughout the HDMI chain.
Program a Philips RC144 through AUX
This method applies only to the Philips RC144 universal remote with an AUX key. Verizon’s guide describes AUX for an audio receiver, amplifier, or VCR. You need the receiver-code list applicable to your exact RC144 and Sony receiver; there is no single Sony code established for every model.

- Turn on the Sony receiver and find its applicable four-digit code in the code list for your remote and receiver model.
- Press and hold AUX, then press OK while still holding AUX. Release both buttons. The device keys should blink twice.
- Enter the four-digit receiver code. AUX should blink three times. Point the remote at the receiver and press Power to test it.
- If power does not work, repeat the process with another code from the applicable list.
If no listed code works
Use the RC144 manual’s code-search procedure, substituting AUX wherever the instructions use TV. The remote sends successive power-off commands; when the receiver turns off, press OK to store the code. Follow the full procedure in the Verizon RC144 guide.
Route volume buttons to the receiver
By default, the RC144’s VOL+, VOL−, and Mute buttons control the TV even in STB or DVD mode; they control the AUX device while the remote is in AUX mode. To make volume control go to AUX in all modes, hold STB, press OK, release both, enter 9-5-5, then press AUX. To restore TV volume control across modes, repeat the sequence and press TV at the final step.

What to expect from a P265 remote
Verizon’s P265 manual says this remote operates the Fios set-top box and TV, and will not operate other devices such as a DVD player or audio receiver. Its TV Power, Volume, Mute, and A/V buttons control the TV. A TV brand code therefore should not be treated as a way to program the P265 for a Sony receiver.
If the P265 is your remote, check whether your TV and receiver can pass commands through HDMI-CEC and whether CEC is enabled on both components. That is a connection-level option, not a receiver-programming capability Verizon documents for the P265.

Troubleshoot by symptom
- The receiver does not respond after Voice Remote setup: verify that setup selected the receiver rather than only the TV, confirm that setup reported success, and aim at the receiver for infrared control. If using CEC, check the HDMI connections and CEC setting on every connected component.
- The RC144 powers the receiver but volume still changes the TV: switch to AUX mode or use the 9-5-5 volume-routing sequence above.
- None of the RC144 codes works: confirm that the code list matches both the remote and receiver model, then try the guide’s AUX code-search procedure.
- You have a P265: its documented controls are limited to the set-top box and TV; do not keep trying receiver codes based on the Sony TV brand.
An exact code or menu path beyond these model-specific procedures cannot be determined from the system names alone. The Fios remote model, Sony receiver model, and whether the equipment is connected by HDMI or controlled by infrared determine the applicable setup.
