Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo prevent duplicate videos when rotating YouTube Live playlists from a folder, compare each candidate’s YouTube video ID with the IDs already in the destination playlist before adding it. For repeats to stay blocked even after a video is removed or moved to another playlist, keep a separate history of IDs. YouTube’s playlist loop repeats playback; it does not deduplicate entries.
What counts as a duplicate?
Use the YouTube video ID as the comparison key, not the display title. Titles can be identical or changed; the playlist item resource identifies the video by its ID. A folder name or filename alone does not establish whether two entries point to the same YouTube video. Your existing folder workflow must resolve each candidate to the intended video ID before you can check it.

There are two different repeat rules:
- Only once in the current playlist: check candidates against the playlist’s current video IDs.
- Never again across rotations: check against a persistent history as well, including IDs from videos removed from the playlist or used in another playlist. This is a workflow recommendation, not a YouTube playlist feature.
Choose manual review or an API check
| Approach | Best for | What it requires |
|---|---|---|
| Manual curation | Small playlists or infrequent updates | Review the playlist in YouTube Studio or the playlist interface, and check each candidate against a maintained ID checklist. YouTube documents playlist creation, management, and ordering, but not automatic deduplication when importing from a folder. YouTube Help: Create and manage playlists and YouTube Studio: Create and manage playlists. |
| API-based check | Repeatable rotation or a larger folder workflow | Authorized API access, pagination, error and retry handling, and awareness of API quota. The playlist-items API lets you list and insert playlist entries. Google playlistItems.list and Google playlistItems.insert. |
Automate duplicate prevention with the YouTube Data API
- Resolve folder candidates to video IDs. Use the process already employed to map each folder entry to the intended YouTube video. The method depends on your folder and application; YouTube does not document a built-in folder-watching import that deduplicates items.
- Read the entire destination playlist. Call
playlistItems.listfor the playlist and continue requesting pages using each response’snextPageTokenuntil there are no more pages. A response can contain up to 50 items; the documentedmaxResultsrange is 0–50. A partial first page is not enough to decide whether a larger playlist already contains a candidate. The endpoint also accepts avideoIdfilter, which can help check an individual candidate. See the list method reference. - Build a set of existing video IDs. Extract the video IDs from the playlist items and compare candidate IDs against that set. The playlist item’s position is zero-based, but position is for ordering, not identity. Google playlistItems resource.
- Skip matches; insert only new IDs. For an ID already in the set, do nothing. For a new ID, call
playlistItems.insertwith the destination playlist ID and video resource ID. The insert method requires authorization and Google documents a quota cost of 50 units per insert. Add the ID to your in-memory set or ledger after a confirmed successful insert so another candidate in the same run cannot add it again. See the insert method reference. - Persist a history if the rule spans rotations. Store successfully processed IDs separately from the live playlist contents. Check both the current playlist and that history before inserting. This catches repeats after removal, replacement, or movement between playlists.
- Make retries idempotent. If a batch or request fails, do not blindly repeat every insert. Re-list the playlist or consult recorded successful inserts, then retry only IDs still absent. Record outcomes so a timeout does not leave you guessing whether an insert succeeded.
Use playlist looping only for playback
YouTube’s loop control makes a playlist play continuously by repeating its contents. It does not document filtering duplicate entries, so it cannot replace the ID check during playlist construction or rotation. Enable looping when continuous playback is wanted, and handle duplicate prevention separately. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.
