In Playwright Test, hide the text caret in the screenshot assertion: await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot({ caret: "hide" });. This is also the documented default, but setting it explicitly makes the test’s intent clear. If you use Cypress or another visual-testing integration, look for its screenshot-time caret setting, CSS injection or masking controls instead.
Hide the caret in a Playwright screenshot assertion
Use Playwright Test’s caret option on toHaveScreenshot:

await expect(page).toHaveScreenshot({ caret: "hide" });"hide" hides the text caret; "initial" leaves its behavior unchanged. The documented default is "hide", so an assertion with no explicit caret option should already suppress it. Check your installed Playwright version’s API documentation if behavior differs.
Playwright also waits until two consecutive page screenshots are identical, then compares the last one with the expected snapshot. That stability check helps with changing page content, but it is not a substitute for controlling a blinking caret when you need to make the behavior explicit. Playwright PageAssertions API

Separate caret flicker from other visual instability
Use the narrowest control that addresses the source of the difference. For the text caret itself, prefer caret: "hide". For other dynamic content, Playwright provides screenshot options to mask matching locators or apply screenshot-only styles.
- Mask a volatile region: use the assertion’s
maskoption with a locator when a particular changing element—not the caret alone—is causing the diff. - Apply temporary screenshot styles: use
styleorstylePathto hide or alter dynamic page elements for the capture. Playwright documents that these styles can affect Shadow DOM and inner frames. - Disable animations when relevant:
animations: "disabled"affects CSS animations, CSS transitions and Web Animations. Finite animations are fast-forwarded to completion, firingtransitionend; infinite animations are canceled to their initial state and played over after the screenshot. This is not a caret-specific fix.
These options and their behavior are documented in the Playwright PageAssertions API. Avoid widening the whole-page pixel-difference tolerance just to ignore a small blinking caret: broad tolerance can also make genuine visual changes harder to detect. Prefer a targeted option or mask when it fits the problem.

When screenshot-only CSS is appropriate
If your capture tool applies CSS at screenshot time and the tests do not need to verify caret visibility, a narrow rule can suppress carets in editable fields:

}This is a general CSS implementation suggestion, not a Playwright-specific recipe. Confirm that the tool injects the stylesheet into the captured page, and use it only if hiding carets across those editable elements will not conceal a visual state your tests are intended to check. In Playwright, use the native caret option for the caret itself.

What to do with Cypress or another visual-testing tool
Cypress’s cy.screenshot() captures an image; Cypress does not perform image comparison itself. A plugin or other visual-testing integration supplies the comparison and may provide its own masking, ignore-region, CSS or caret controls. Check that integration’s documentation for the precise option and syntax rather than assuming a Cypress screenshot option will control its image diff.
Cypress recommends stabilizing the page, keeping the rendering environment consistent, controlling test data and hiding or masking uncontrolled dynamic content through the selected visual-testing tool. Cypress visual testing documentation

- Identify which tool actually compares the captured image with a baseline.
- Check whether it has a caret-specific screenshot setting; use that if available.
- If not, use its supported screenshot-time CSS or a narrowly scoped mask.
- Keep viewport, browser and page state consistent so unrelated rendering changes do not obscure the result.
