To stop accidental Camera Control presses on a supported iPhone, open Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control. Turn off Camera Control to disable it entirely, or switch off only Light-Press and Swipe to keep the button’s camera-launch function. If the camera opens unintentionally, you can also require a double-click or set its assigned app to None.
Choose the fix that matches what is happening
| What you want to stop | Setting to change | What remains available |
|---|---|---|
| All Camera Control activity | Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control > turn off Camera Control | Camera Control is disabled. |
| Unintentional camera launches | Settings > Camera > Camera Control > select Double Click | The button still launches its assigned app after two clicks. |
| App launches from a click | Settings > Camera > Camera Control > choose None for the assigned app | Clicking the control does not open an app. |
| Accidental light-press adjustments | Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control > turn off Light-Press | Other Camera Control actions, including launching the camera, can remain available. |
| Accidental swipe adjustments | Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control > turn off Swipe | Other Camera Control actions can remain available. |
Turn off Camera Control entirely
If you do not use the hardware control, disabling it is the most direct way to prevent it from activating Camera or another assigned camera app. Open Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control, then turn off Camera Control. Apple documents this option for supported iPhone models; if the setting is missing, check your model’s compatibility and the user guide for your software version. Apple’s Camera Control accessibility instructions describe the available controls.

Keep the camera shortcut but make launches deliberate
To avoid opening the camera with a single accidental click, go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control and select Double Click instead of Single Click. This adds a second click before the assigned app opens. Apple lists Camera, Code Scanner, and Magnifier as possible app assignments; choose None if you do not want a click to launch an app. See Apple’s Camera Control guide for launch and assignment options.

Disable only the gestures you trigger by mistake
Turn off Light-Press
In Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control, switch off Light-Press to stop the light-press gesture from opening camera adjustment controls. You can still use other Camera Control actions, such as launching the camera, if those remain enabled.

Turn off Swipe
Switch off Swipe in the same accessibility menu if an accidental slide across the control changes or navigates camera settings. You can disable Swipe alone or alongside Light-Press.
These gestures control more than just the camera launch. Depending on the camera mode, a light double-press can open an overlay for adjustments such as Exposure, Depth, Zoom, Cameras, Styles, or Tone. Availability varies by mode. Disabling Light-Press or Swipe is useful when you want to retain the camera shortcut but avoid unintended adjustments. Apple’s guide to using Camera Control explains its camera actions.

Adjust how much pressure or timing a gesture requires
If you want to keep the gestures, rather than disable them, use Light-Press Force and Double Light-Press Speed in Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control. Change the force setting to suit how firmly you press, then use Apple’s built-in practice gesture in Settings to try the configured light press. Adjust the double-light-press speed if the two presses are being recognized too easily or not easily enough.
