Change the repeat setting in the part of the system that is actually repeating: for a YouTube playlist you are watching, turn off YouTube’s Loop control; for prerecorded videos being sent to YouTube Live, turn off looping in the encoder. In OBS, disable Loop on a single Media Source or Loop Playlist on a VLC Video source. YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control does not change what an encoder broadcasts.
First identify what is repeating
A YouTube playlist on the watch page and a playlist of files sent by a live encoder are different workflows, with separate controls. YouTube’s Loop option controls viewer playback; an encoder’s source settings control prerecorded media in the live feed. YouTube describes Live as receiving a feed from an encoder, while its player help covers looping a video or playlist for the viewer. Turn off repeat in a YouTube playlist you are watching
If you are watching a playlist rather than running a live broadcast, use the playlist controls in the YouTube player. Expand the playlist controls and turn off Loop. If only the current video repeats, clear the single-video repeat state as well. YouTube documents playback controls for desktop, mobile, TV, and game consoles; the exact control placement varies by device. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStop a single OBS file from restarting
- In OBS, identify the active scene and select the Media Source that contains the file being broadcast.
- Open that source’s properties. The exact route to the properties can differ across operating-system builds; use the selected source’s properties in your installed OBS version.
- Turn off Loop, then apply or close the properties and confirm the intended source is active.
OBS describes Loop as controlling whether the file plays again after playback completes. With it disabled, the file should stop when it reaches its end rather than restarting. This does not control YouTube’s player when viewers watch the stream. OBS Project: Media Sources

Stop an OBS playlist of files from restarting
- Select the active VLC Video source that contains the sequence of files.
- Open the source properties and turn off Loop Playlist.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off if you want files to play in their listed order. Shuffle changes ordering; it is not the setting that determines whether the sequence restarts.
- Check that the source is in the active scene and that the playlist contains the intended files.
OBS says Loop Playlist controls whether the source restarts after it runs out of media files. Its VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed; OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. The OBS documentation page is dated 2022-01-11, so use the documented property names in your installed version rather than assuming every current build has identical menus or layout. OBS Project: Media Sources
Troubleshoot if the same file still plays again
- You changed YouTube Loop, but the live broadcast repeats: You changed viewer playback, not the encoder output. Find the media source in the broadcasting software and change its repeat setting.
- You disabled Loop, but the sequence still restarts: Check that you changed the active VLC Video source’s Loop Playlist property, not a different source or scene.
- The sequence plays in an unexpected order: Check that Shuffle Playlist is off.
- The source does not behave like a multi-file playlist: Confirm that you selected a VLC Video source and that the intended files are listed in its properties.
- VLC Video is unavailable or does not load media: Install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS; OBS specifically calls for 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
Do not confuse an HLS media playlist with your video playlist
YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance uses “media playlist” to describe how live media segments are assembled. It is not a playlist of separate programs or prerecorded files in OBS. The HLS document specifies a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; that requirement applies to HLS ingestion and should not be generalized to every YouTube Live encoder setup.
