Pokémon Legends: Z-A is already available; the current preorder opportunity is the physical Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle, scheduled for October 29, 2026. Choose the edition based on your console, whether you already own the game, and whether you want Mega Dimension on a physical game card. The original Ralts and 100 Poké Balls early-purchase rewards have expired.

Can you still preorder Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

Yes, but the answer depends on which release you mean. The original game launched on October 16, 2025 and is now available through Nintendo eShop, My Nintendo Store, and participating retailers. You are no longer preordering that initial release.

The active preorder window is for the physical Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle. The Pokémon Company says it will release on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Pokémon Center announced reservations on October 1, 2026, while availability at other retailers depends on their listings, stock, region, and reservation policies.

What the 2026 bundle contains

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.
  • The Mega Dimension DLC.
  • Both the game and DLC on one physical game card.
  • A serial code for 100 Ultra Balls.

The official announcement does not state an expiration date for the 100 Ultra Balls code. Redemption can still depend on Nintendo network service and account conditions, so keep the code and redeem it while the service required by the game is available.

Running the Switch 2 Edition on an original Nintendo Switch does not add Switch 2-specific features. The software is compatible, but the older console cannot provide the enhanced resolution, graphics, or smoother frame-rate performance described for Nintendo Switch 2.

Choose your edition with this decision guide

If you already own the Nintendo Switch version

You have two practical routes: buy the upgrade pack, or replace your copy with a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition product. Compare the upgrade-pack cost with the price of a new copy and decide whether you also need Mega Dimension.

  • Choose the upgrade pack when you want to keep your existing game and the upgrade is the lower-cost way to obtain the Switch 2 Edition features.
  • Choose a new Switch 2 Edition copy when the price, format, or included retailer offer is more attractive than upgrading your current copy.
  • Add Mega Dimension separately if you buy only the standard Switch 2 Edition. The standard edition does not include the DLC.

Check which account owns your digital game, or which cartridge you use, before purchasing an upgrade. Buying the 2026 bundle gives you a complete physical package, but it also includes another copy of the base game.

If you already own the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Do not buy the bundle just to obtain Mega Dimension. The official guidance says that owners of the Switch 2 Edition need only purchase Mega Dimension separately. The bundle duplicates the base game you already own.

The bundle may still be relevant if you specifically want another physical copy, but that is a separate reason from obtaining the DLC. Confirm the DLC purchase is tied to the Nintendo Account and version you use before checking out.

If you are a new buyer and want Mega Dimension on a game card

The October 29, 2026 physical bundle is the clearest match. It places the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension on one game card, so you receive the base game and expansion together rather than buying the game and DLC in separate transactions.

Verify that the listing says “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension”. A listing that says only “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” is the base game and does not include the expansion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you have an original Nintendo Switch and no Switch 2

The standard Nintendo Switch version is the straightforward choice. The Switch 2 Edition can run on Nintendo Switch, but playing it on that hardware does not unlock the Switch 2-specific graphics, resolution, or frame-rate improvements. Paying for those enhancements only makes sense if you expect to play on Nintendo Switch 2.

  • Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game

You can still evaluate the Switch 2 Edition for future hardware plans, but do not assume the older console will display the upgraded presentation.

If a preorder gift is your priority

Bonus eligibility is retailer- and region-specific. Check the exact product page, reservation terms, shipping region, and stock status on the day you order. A retailer may sell the same edition without the bonus, or limit the gift to qualifying early purchases.

How to preorder the 2026 physical bundle

  1. Decide whether you need the bundle. If you already own the Switch 2 Edition, buy Mega Dimension separately instead. If you already own the original Switch version, compare the upgrade pack with a replacement copy before reserving.
  2. Select a purchase channel. Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store are official channels for the available editions. For the October 29 physical bundle, use Pokémon Center or another participating retailer that explicitly lists the bundle.
  3. Read the full edition name. Confirm that the listing includes both “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” and “Mega Dimension.” Do not rely on a thumbnail, platform filter, or a shortened title.
  4. Confirm the physical format. The 2026 bundle is described as a physical package with both the game and DLC on one game card. Make sure the listing is not a digital-only offer or a standard edition with a separate DLC code.
  5. Check the release date and reservation status. The announced release date is October 29, 2026. Retailers may show reservation availability, a release-day delivery estimate, or a temporary out-of-stock status; these are retailer conditions rather than changes to the announced date.
  6. Review region and bonus terms. Confirm that the retailer ships to your region and that any advertised gift applies to your order. Bonus eligibility can differ by country, retailer, stock level, and purchase timing.
  7. Keep your order confirmation. Save the edition name, platform, format, release date, and any bonus wording. Those details make it easier to resolve a wrong-edition shipment or missing gift.
  8. After release, retain the serial code. The bundle includes a code for 100 Ultra Balls. The announcement gives no expiration date, but redemption remains subject to the network and account requirements in effect when you use it.

What changes with the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?

Nintendo describes the Switch 2 Edition as having improved graphics, enhanced resolution, and smoother frame rates. These are the meaningful reasons to choose it over the original Nintendo Switch edition when you have Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Graphics: the Switch 2 Edition is the enhanced presentation rather than the original Switch version.
  • Resolution: Nintendo specifically identifies enhanced resolution for the Switch 2 Edition.
  • Frame rate: Nintendo describes smoother frame rates on the newer hardware.
  • Compatibility: the Switch 2 Edition can run on an original Nintendo Switch, but its Switch 2-specific benefits do not transfer to that console.

Whether it is “worth it” therefore depends on your hardware and ownership status. For a new Switch 2 owner, the enhanced edition is the logical default unless a physical DLC bundle is more important. For an original Switch owner, the standard version avoids paying for improvements your console cannot display. For an existing owner, compare an upgrade pack with the cost of replacing the game.

Upgrade pack versus buying another copy

The upgrade-pack route is designed for people who already own the Nintendo Switch version and want the Switch 2 Edition experience. A new Switch 2 Edition copy is an alternative, not a requirement for moving to the enhanced version.

Use this checklist before deciding:

  • Are you playing on Nintendo Switch 2 now, or only on an original Switch?
  • Is your existing copy physical or digital?
  • Does the upgrade pack cost less than the new edition available in your region?
  • Do you want Mega Dimension, which is not part of the standard Switch 2 Edition?
  • Would a second physical copy have value to you, or would it duplicate what you already own?

If the answer to the DLC question is yes, compare the total cost of an upgrade pack plus separate Mega Dimension with the total cost of the October 29 bundle. The bundle includes the base game again, so it is most efficient for a new buyer rather than someone who already owns the enhanced edition.

Mega Dimension: separate purchase or bundle?

Buying Mega Dimension separately

Separate purchase is the official route for owners of the Switch 2 Edition. It avoids buying the base game twice. It is also the natural option if you already upgraded from the original Switch version and do not need another cartridge.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check that the DLC listing is for your edition and Nintendo Account. A DLC purchase does not replace the base game; you still need a compatible copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

Buying the physical bundle

The bundle is aimed at a new buyer who wants one physical package. Its game card contains the Switch 2 Edition and Mega Dimension, and the package includes the 100 Ultra Balls serial code. It releases on October 29, 2026, rather than on the original game’s 2025 launch date.

Because it contains the base game, an existing Switch 2 Edition owner should treat the bundle as a duplicate-game purchase. The official recommendation in that situation is to buy Mega Dimension alone.

The old Ralts and 100 Poké Balls promotions should not be used to evaluate a new order. They were tied to the original release and their deadlines passed in early 2026. The documented 2026 Pokémon Center offer is an original sticker set, but you must confirm that your region, retailer listing, and purchase timing qualify.

Physical or digital: which format fits?

Choose physical when you want the 2026 bundle

The Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension product is a physical bundle with the game and DLC on one game card. It is the only option in this comparison that combines the enhanced edition and Mega Dimension in one announced physical package. You also receive the 100 Ultra Balls serial code.

Physical reservations require attention to stock, shipping, release-day delivery, and regional eligibility. A reservation is not a guarantee that every retailer will have unlimited supply or that a bonus will continue after qualifying stock is gone.

Choose digital when immediate availability matters

The original Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 editions are available through Nintendo eShop. Digital ownership avoids waiting for a physical shipment and ties the purchase to your Nintendo Account. The original digital promotion’s 100 Poké Balls code, however, had a March 10, 2026 redemption deadline and is no longer an available incentive.

For a digital buyer who already owns the Switch 2 Edition, Mega Dimension remains the relevant purchase rather than the physical bundle.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Confusing availability with preorder status: the original game is already released; only the October 29, 2026 physical bundle is the current preorder opportunity.
  • Assuming every Switch 2 Edition purchase includes DLC: the standard Switch 2 Edition does not include Mega Dimension. The bundle does.
  • Expecting Switch 2 enhancements on an original Switch: compatibility does not turn older hardware into Switch 2 hardware.
  • Buying the bundle after already buying the Switch 2 Edition: the bundle repeats the base game. Buy Mega Dimension separately unless you intentionally want another copy.
  • Relying on an old bonus advertisement: Ralts holding Gardevoirite and the original 100 Poké Balls offer expired in early 2026.
  • Assuming a bonus is universal: the Pokémon Center sticker set and other retailer gifts depend on region, retailer, stock, and qualifying-purchase terms.
  • Ignoring the platform label: verify whether the listing is for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, or the Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle before payment.

A quick buyer checklist

  • Console: Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2?
  • Ownership: do you already own the original Switch version or Switch 2 Edition?
  • Upgrade path: would an upgrade pack be better than replacing the game?
  • DLC: do you need Mega Dimension, and do you want it on the same physical game card?
  • Format: physical bundle or digital purchase?
  • Date: does the October 29, 2026 release date work for you?
  • Bonus: does the retailer clearly state the Pokémon Center sticker set or another qualifying gift for your region?
  • Code: can you retain and redeem the 100 Ultra Balls serial code under the network conditions at the time?

Bottom line for each buyer

  • New Nintendo Switch 2 buyer: choose the standard Switch 2 Edition for the enhanced game now, or reserve the October 29 bundle if you also want Mega Dimension physically.
  • New original-Switch buyer: choose the standard Nintendo Switch version; Switch 2 enhancements will not appear on that console.
  • Original Switch owner moving to Switch 2: compare the upgrade pack with a new copy, then buy Mega Dimension separately unless the complete physical bundle’s duplicate base game is worthwhile.
  • Switch 2 Edition owner: buy Mega Dimension separately; the official guidance says the bundle is unnecessary for you.
  • Bonus-focused buyer: verify the retailer, region, stock, and written terms on the day of reservation, especially for the Pokémon Center sticker set.
