To power USB devices from a Milwaukee M18 battery, attach the battery to an M18-compatible power-supply adapter. Milwaukee’s M18 TOP-OFF Charger & Power Supply (2847-20) is the most direct option for USB: it has a 100 W USB-C Power Delivery port and a second port rated at 15 W, and Milwaukee says it fits all M18 batteries. The battery is required for portable use and is sold separately.
How to connect a USB device to an M18 battery
- Attach an M18 battery to the power-supply adapter. For the 2847-20, Milwaukee lists compatibility with all M18 batteries.
- Connect your phone, tablet, computer, headlamp, or other USB device to the appropriate adapter port using a suitable cable.
- Follow the device maker’s charging instructions and keep the load within the selected port’s rating. Actual charging depends on the device, cable, negotiated USB-C power profile, and battery state; the port’s maximum wattage is not a guaranteed charging speed.
Use an adapter designed for the M18 battery system rather than attempting to connect USB wiring directly to the battery. Milwaukee’s 2847-20 product page lists the output ratings and battery compatibility. Its TOP-OFF operator manual advises connecting devices according to their manufacturers’ instructions and staying within each USB-C outlet’s rating.

Which M18 adapter should you choose?
The main choice is whether you need USB only or also need a household AC outlet. These units’ wattage figures describe different outputs, so compare USB-C with USB-C and AC with AC—not just the largest number in a product name.

What to know about charging capacity
Milwaukee estimates that an M18 XC 5.0 battery can charge a phone up to five times when used with the 2847-20. That is the manufacturer’s estimate, not a guaranteed count: results depend on the phone, battery condition, and charging circumstances. The included 65 W wall adapter can recharge an M18 battery through the TOP-OFF, but it is not needed to draw portable power from a battery already attached.

Safety and limits
- Do not exceed the rating of the port you use. Milwaukee warns that overloading the 2846-20 can damage equipment or cause overheating, fire, electric shock, or injury.
- The 2846-20’s AC receptacle has non-sinusoidal output. Milwaukee does not recommend it for certain sensitive electronics; check the connected device’s manual before use.
- The 2846-20 manual says it is not compatible with appliances, power tools, air conditioners, sump pumps, compressors, or other larger electrical devices.
- The 2846-20 is for indoor use. Do not expose it to rain or use it if the supply or battery is damaged.
- Milwaukee excludes emergency medical equipment and life-support devices from use with the 2846-20. These accessories should not be treated as medical or life-support power sources.
