Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Sign in to the same New York Times account wherever you play Wordle. NYT says signed-in players can access saved progress, statistics and streaks on different devices; unsigned progress is stored on the device and may be lost. Sync protects the record, but you still have to solve each day’s puzzle to keep a consecutive streak.
Sign in before switching devices or browsers
NYT’s guidance is direct: “To play across multiple devices and web browsers, log in to your New York Times account.” Once signed in, saved puzzle progress, statistics and streaks are available when you change devices. Use the same account that holds your existing game record; signing in to a different account will not connect you to that record. NYT Games Help Center

- On the device where your Wordle record is available, confirm you are signed in to the intended New York Times account.
- On the new device or browser, sign in to that same account before relying on it for play.
- Check that your saved progress and statistics appear. NYT describes account access across devices but does not provide a separate step-by-step migration procedure.
Signed-in play versus local-only play
| Play setup | Where progress is stored | Changing devices or browsers | Data-loss concern |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signed in to a NYT account | Associated with the account | NYT says saved progress, statistics and streaks can be accessed on other devices and browsers. | Account access helps preserve continuity; it does not guarantee recovery from every technical or account problem. |
| Not signed in | Locally on the device | NYT says the progress is not on the account, so it may not follow you to another device or browser. | NYT warns local progress can be lost. |

Protect progress that is stored only in a browser
NYT warns that unsigned game progress is stored locally and can be lost. A secondary Wordle FAQ also identifies clearing browser history or data, switching browsers, and playing in a private or incognito window as situations where statistics may disappear. Treat those as practical cautions from that FAQ, not as a separate NYT guarantee about every browser.
#1 Best Overall
- Sign in to your NYT account rather than relying on unsigned local storage.
- If you are playing unsigned, avoid clearing the browser’s site data and avoid moving to a different browser or private window if you need that local record.
- Before changing devices, confirm the same NYT account is in use on both.
NYT’s explanation of local storage and possible progress loss appears on its Games Subscription help page; the browser-data examples come from HelpWordle.com’s Wordle FAQ.
Syncing does not keep a streak alive by itself
Account syncing preserves access to a record; it does not turn an unfinished daily puzzle into a win. You need to solve that day’s puzzle to maintain consecutive play. HelpWordle.com describes Wordle as a five-letter puzzle with six guesses: green marks a correct letter in the correct position, yellow a letter in the answer but in another position, and gray a letter absent from the answer. Its FAQ says failing to guess the word within six tries breaks the current streak.

Complete the puzzle before the next daily puzzle takes its place. The available FAQ is a secondary source, so this article does not specify a reset hour or timezone.
If your Wordle stats or streak disappear
- Confirm you are signed in, and check that it is the NYT account associated with your record.
- Check the device or browser where you previously played. If you were not signed in, the record may have existed only in that browser’s local storage.
- If the record is still missing or you suspect an account or technical issue, contact current NYT Games support. The cited NYT help page explains storage and syncing but does not promise a process or outcome for restoring a missing streak.
Do you need a Games subscription?
NYT lists Wordle among its free daily games, so a Games subscription is not required just to play Wordle and maintain a daily streak. Some related features have separate access requirements: the NYT help page says full Wordle Bot features require a qualifying subscription. See the NYT Games subscription details.
