The free Lingering Shadow Demo is available on Steam as its own Windows app. In Steam, search for that exact title, choose Install, and launch it from your Library. The demo is separate from the full game, whose main store page still shows Coming soon. The only published PC baseline is a 64-bit processor and operating system with 8 GB of RAM; CPU, graphics card, VRAM, storage, resolution and frame-rate targets have not been published.
What is available on Steam
Lingering Shadow is described on its Steam store listing as a psychological horror puzzle game set in a small town in the 2000s. The playable demo is not merely a trial mode hidden inside the unreleased product page. It is a separate, free Steam app with App ID 4432070.

SteamDB records the demo’s release on 16 October 2026. A GamesPress announcement dated the same day says developer Ferine Columba Studio and publisher 2P Games released the Steam demo. That is why you can install the demo now even though the full game’s store page has not opened for purchase.
Do not use the full-game page to install the demo
The parent listing, App ID 4427280, still displays Coming soon and the message, “This game is not yet available on Steam.” That wording describes the full game only. If you open that page and cannot find an Install button, you have not reached the demo listing.

How to download and play the demo
1. Search for the separate app
- Open the Steam desktop client and sign in.
- Use the store search field and enter Lingering Shadow Demo, including the word “Demo.”
- Open the result whose title identifies it as the demo. Check the page before installing: it should be the free demo app rather than the full game’s Coming soon page.
Searching the complete title is safer than searching only for “Lingering Shadow,” because Steam can show the unreleased parent listing first. If the result does not appear, clear any filters in the Steam search page, check the spelling, and try again from the Store tab rather than the Library search box.
2. Select Install
- On the demo’s store page, select the Install button.
- When Steam asks for a library, choose the drive and Steam library folder where you want the files stored.
- Review the installation dialog and confirm. Steam will add the demo to your downloads queue.
- Open the Downloads view to watch progress. The exact download size is not stated in the published requirements, so leave more free space than the eventual download alone may need for unpacking and installation.
The demo is free, so an Install button should not require a purchase transaction. If Steam instead shows a purchase price or only a wishlist option, return to search and verify that you selected the demo app, not App ID 4427280.
3. Launch it from your Library
- After the download finishes, open Library.
- Search your library for Lingering Shadow Demo.
- Select the entry and press Play.
- Allow the first launch to complete any normal Steam setup. If Windows displays a security or firewall prompt, read the publisher and application details before choosing whether to allow access.
Steam may create a desktop shortcut if you select that option during installation, but the Library entry is the reliable way to start the correct app. Keep the demo entry separate from any future full-game entry so that you do not accidentally open the unreleased product page.

Published PC requirements: what is known
The official Steam listing publishes only a minimum baseline. It does not identify a processor model, graphics card, VRAM amount, storage requirement, supported resolution or target frame rate.

Passing the 64-bit and memory checks means your computer meets the information currently supplied by the publisher on Steam. It does not establish that the demo will run smoothly, because graphics hardware and performance targets are unspecified.
Check your Windows PC before installing
Confirm that Windows is 64-bit
- Open Settings from the Windows Start menu.
- Choose System, then About.
- Look for System type. The entry should identify a 64-bit operating system and a 64-bit-based processor.
If Windows reports a 32-bit operating system, it does not meet the Steam listing’s architecture requirement. A 64-bit processor with a 32-bit Windows installation is still presented as a 32-bit operating system, so check both parts of the entry rather than assuming one from the other.

Check installed memory
- Right-click the taskbar and open Task Manager.
- Select Performance, then Memory.
- Read the total installed memory shown in the panel. Close memory-heavy applications before comparing available memory with the requirement; “available” and “in use” are not the same as the installed total.
You can also find the installed-memory figure under Settings > System > About. If your computer has less memory than the published baseline, adding or replacing hardware is a system change rather than a Steam setting; the demo’s listing does not provide a lower-memory workaround.

Identify your CPU and graphics hardware for an informed, but provisional, check
- In Task Manager, open Performance and select CPU to see the processor name.
- Select GPU to see the graphics adapter name and dedicated-memory information when Windows exposes it.
- For a fuller DirectX report, press Windows key + R, enter
dxdiag, and inspect the System and Display tabs.
Use those names to understand what is in the machine, not to claim compatibility against an official model list: no such CPU or GPU list has been published for this demo. Integrated graphics can differ substantially between processor generations, and a computer that satisfies the memory baseline may still have limited graphics performance.
What to do when the listing does not give enough detail
With no GPU, VRAM, storage or frame-rate target, there is no authoritative way to predict a smooth result from a specification sheet alone. A sensible approach is to treat installation as a compatibility check and observe the actual demo on your hardware.

- Keep Windows and your graphics driver current through the normal manufacturer or Windows update channel.
- Close browsers, launchers and other demanding programs before the first run so that they do not consume memory or graphics resources.
- Start with the demo’s default video settings. Change one setting at a time if the game exposes quality, resolution or frame-rate controls, so you can identify which change affects responsiveness.
- Watch for sustained stutter, severe input delay, corrupted graphics, crashes or overheating rather than judging compatibility from the fact that the menu opens.
- Record the exact symptom and your hardware names before seeking help; “it is slow” is less useful than a repeatable description tied to a setting or scene.
Do not infer a guaranteed 1080p or 60 fps experience from the 8 GB figure. That number describes system memory only and says nothing about the graphics workload.

The demo does not appear in search
- Search for the complete phrase Lingering Shadow Demo from the Store tab.
- Remove spelling variations, quotation marks and restrictive store filters.
- Open the result and verify that it is the free demo app, not the parent page that says Coming soon.
- Restart the Steam client if the store results appear stale, then search again.
There is no Install button
The most likely explanation is that the full-game listing is open. The demo is a separate app, so navigate back to the search results and select the entry explicitly labelled “Demo.” A missing Install control on the parent page is consistent with its unreleased status and does not mean the demo has been withdrawn.

- Open Steam’s Downloads page and check whether another queued update is using the connection or disk.
- Pause and resume the demo download.
- Restart Steam and confirm that the selected library drive is connected and has room for Steam to unpack the files.
- If the Library entry is present but launch behavior is abnormal, open its properties and use Steam’s file-integrity check before downloading again.
Steam’s exact menus can vary slightly by client update, but the relevant controls are available from the demo’s Library properties. An integrity check repairs mismatched or missing local files; it cannot add hardware support that the game itself does not provide.

The demo launches and then crashes
- Restart Windows and launch the demo with other demanding applications closed.
- Install pending Windows and graphics-driver updates, then try again.
- Use Steam’s file-integrity check from the demo’s properties.
- Note whether the crash occurs before the menu, when loading a save or after changing a particular graphics option. Revert the last changed setting if the failure began immediately afterward.
Because the published listing does not name a required driver version, graphics API or supported Windows release, a crash cannot be diagnosed from the store requirements alone. The symptom, hardware, Windows version and any error text are needed for a more specific diagnosis.
The game runs but performance is poor
Confirm that the computer meets the published architecture and memory baseline, then reduce demanding in-game options if they are available. Check whether another application is consuming CPU, memory or GPU resources. If the demo remains unusable, the absence of an official GPU or performance target means there is no published threshold against which to prove a specification mismatch.
Is Lingering Shadow available on Steam Deck?
The Steam parent listing reports Steam Deck compatibility as Unknown. There is no researched evidence of a Valve Verified or Playable certification for the game. The Windows support record for the demo does not turn that unknown status into a Deck guarantee.

If you own a Steam Deck, you can look at the compatibility label shown on the demo’s Steam page and in your Library before attempting installation. Treat an Unknown label as an experiment: it does not promise that the controls, text, launcher, graphics, suspend behavior or performance have been checked for Deck. The currently published information is insufficient to recommend the demo as a certified handheld experience.

What may change later
Steam requirements can be expanded as development continues. If the publisher adds details, the useful comparison points are operating-system architecture, RAM, CPU model, GPU model and VRAM, free storage, target resolution and expected frame rate. Those are the fields missing from the current listing beyond the architecture and memory baseline.
For now, the reliable route is straightforward: install App ID 4432070 through the separate demo listing, not the full game’s page; verify your 64-bit Windows setup and installed memory; and treat graphics performance and Steam Deck support as unresolved until the publisher or Steam provides more specific information.
