“Play phone sound on mobile from Windows 11” can mean three different things: hear your phone’s sound on the PC, control phone music from Windows, or send PC audio to the phone. Phone Link documents the first option for certain Samsung phones and the second for Android audio apps. The Microsoft guidance cited here does not establish Phone Link as a general way to route Windows media audio to a phone.
Choose the audio direction you need
| What you want | What Phone Link documents | Where the sound plays |
|---|---|---|
| Hear audio from an Android phone on a Windows PC | Audio streaming for eligible Samsung phones, subject to Microsoft’s stated device and app-version requirements. Microsoft’s instructions cover setup and output selection. | Computer, when selected in Phone Link. |
| Control music playing on an Android phone from Windows | Phone Link can display playback controls for supported audio apps. Microsoft’s notification guidance describes the player. | The phone or speakers connected to it. |
| Play Windows media audio through the phone | Not established as a general Phone Link feature by the Microsoft guidance cited here. | No general Phone Link route is documented here. |
| Make or receive calls on the PC | Phone Link supports call handling over Bluetooth, a separate feature from media-audio streaming. See Microsoft’s calling instructions. | Call audio is handled through the PC’s Bluetooth connection. |
Stream sound from a supported Samsung phone to the PC
Microsoft specifies a Samsung device running One UI 5.0 or higher, Phone Link version 1.22092.214.0 or higher, and Link to Windows version 1.22102.149.0 or higher for this audio-streaming feature. Microsoft says Honor and Surface Duo are not supported for it. These feature-specific requirements should not be read as support for every Android phone or iPhone.

- Check the requirements. Confirm the phone is a supported Samsung device and that One UI, Phone Link, and Link to Windows meet the versions above.
- Connect the phone and PC. Complete Phone Link setup, then open an Android app or the Phone screen feature in Phone Link.
- Grant audio permissions. On the phone, allow the requested audio permissions for both Link to Windows and Link to Windows Service.
- Choose the output. In Phone Link, go to Settings > Features > Apps. Under Hear audio from, choose Computer to hear the phone’s audio on the PC. Choose Phone to return playback to the phone.
Phone Link’s Apps feature mirrors Android apps on the PC; it does not install those apps as Windows apps. Audio from mirrored Android apps continues to play on the Android device unless you use the supported audio-streaming feature and select the computer output. Microsoft’s explanation is in Troubleshoot Apps in the Phone Link.

If you only need play, pause, previous, or next controls, turn on Show audio currently playing from my phone in Phone Link settings and allow notifications for the audio app. The Phone Link player can show Previous, Play/Pause, and Next controls. The sound remains on the phone or speakers connected to it; the player is a remote control, not an audio-routing switch. Some third-party audio apps are not supported.

What Phone Link setup requires
For general Phone Link setup, Microsoft lists a Windows 10 PC with the October 2022 update or later, or Windows 11; Android 10 or later; and the phone and PC connected to the same Wi-Fi network. See Phone Link requirements and setup. These general requirements do not override the more specific Samsung and app-version requirements for audio streaming.
The same setup page also describes iPhone pairing with iOS 16 or later and Bluetooth Low Energy. That iPhone pairing information does not establish the Android audio-streaming feature for iPhone. Phone Link support can vary by device, version, and region.

The audio output option is missing or streaming will not start
- Recheck that the phone is a supported Samsung model running One UI 5.0 or higher and that both Phone Link and Link to Windows meet Microsoft’s minimum versions for streaming.
- Open an Android app or Phone screen feature in Phone Link and check that the requested permissions were granted to both Link to Windows and Link to Windows Service.
- Confirm that Settings > Features > Apps > Hear audio from is set to Computer when PC playback is the goal.
Mirrored apps disconnect or stop responding
Keep the phone nearby and connected to Wi-Fi. Microsoft identifies a locked PC, unavailable Wi-Fi, a phone outside Wi-Fi range, or airplane mode as possible causes of connection problems. Its steps are in Troubleshoot Apps in the Phone Link.

Keep calls separate from media audio
