Kitaria Fables 2 is planned to support two-player co-op both locally and online. Steam lists shared/split-screen co-op, Remote Play Together, and full controller support; Xbox lists two-player local and online co-op. The game is planned for release in Q2 2027 and is not yet available on Steam, so the final menu names, invitation process, and cross-play policy may change.
What co-op modes are planned?
The current official store listings describe Kitaria Fables 2 as a two-player adventure. One friend can join the same screen on a shared console or PC, or connect from another location through online co-op. Steam also lists Remote Play Together, allowing a friend to join a local-style session remotely through Steam.

| Mode | Players | What you need | What is officially confirmed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local/shared-screen co-op | 2 | One supported PC or console and two compatible controllers | Steam lists Shared/Split Screen Co-op; Xbox lists “Xbox local co-op (2-2)” |
| Online co-op | 2 | Two players with access to the game on a supported platform; Xbox console play also requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate | Steam lists Online Co-op; Xbox lists “Online co-op (2-2)” |
| Steam Remote Play Together | Two-player session | A Steam copy and controllers configured for the local-style session | Steam lists Remote Play Together; final launch instructions are not published |
The Steam description says, “Recruit a friend in local or online co-op, and play through the entire story with both heroes at the same time.” An official Steam community announcement further describes “a fully integrated drop in/out 2 player local co-op mode.” That wording indicates that the second player is intended to be able to join or leave a local session without restarting the entire story, although the exact on-screen controls have not been released.

The planned co-op limit is two players, not four. Xbox uses the notation “2-2” for both local and online co-op, and Steam describes two heroes playing together. The available listings do not describe a larger party mode, competitive multiplayer, or a way to add additional players.

The two-player structure assigns one hero to each participant. The Steam store description identifies Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin as the two heroes played together through the story. Which player controls which hero, and whether that assignment can be changed during a session, should be checked in the release build because those controls are not documented yet.
Playing local co-op on one PC or console
What to prepare
- One supported PC or console with the game installed.
- Two compatible game controllers. Steam advertises full controller support, and Xbox identifies the local mode as two-player.
- A display for the shared or split-screen view.
- A second player account or profile if the platform requests one during setup; the final account behavior has not been documented.
Setup steps
- Connect both controllers to the same PC or console and confirm that the platform recognizes each one separately. On a PC, wired or wireless pairing is handled by the operating system or controller software; the game’s final device list has not been published.
- Launch Kitaria Fables 2 and open the mode-selection or multiplayer area when it is available in the final release.
- Choose the local, shared-screen, or split-screen co-op option. The precise label is not confirmed because the game has not launched.
- Have the second player press the join or confirm control when prompted. The planned local mode is described as drop-in/drop-out, so joining should be possible during a session, but the button prompt and timing remain subject to the final build.
- Select or confirm the two heroes. The store description presents Alice Skylar and Dusty Tuftkin as the pair who play through the story together.
- Start the story and check that each controller moves only its assigned hero. If both controllers operate the same character, pause and review the platform’s controller assignment before continuing.
How shared-screen play should work
Local co-op uses one game session and one display. The official listings call it shared/split-screen rather than two separate local sessions, so both players should expect to see the same story progression while controlling their own hero. The listings do not specify whether the camera is shared, divided dynamically, or locked to a particular player; do not assume a specific screen layout until the release version documents it.
Leaving and rejoining
The official announcement calls the feature a “fully integrated drop in/out 2 player local co-op mode.” That confirms the intended ability to join or leave a local game. It does not establish whether an absent hero is controlled by the game, becomes stationary, or requires the host to pause. Test the behavior in a safe area after launch rather than quitting during an important story or combat sequence.

Playing online co-op from different locations
Requirements
- Both players need access to the game on a supported platform once it launches.
- Each player needs a working internet connection and the platform account features required for multiplayer.
- On Xbox consoles, the host account must have Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate for online multiplayer. Xbox states that the subscription is sold separately.
- Use two controllers if either player is playing on a console or if the PC setup requires controller input. Steam lists full controller support, but it does not state that keyboard-and-mouse co-op is supported.
Joining a friend
- Install and start the game on both systems after the release is available.
- Make sure the host has completed any opening step required to reach the co-op menu. The game’s final progression requirement is not yet published.
- Open the platform friend list or the game’s co-op screen and select the friend-invite option once it appears.
- Have the other player accept the invitation through the platform notification or the in-game prompt.
- Confirm that both heroes are present before loading into the story. If only one player appears, return to the lobby rather than assuming the connection succeeded.
Those steps describe the expected flow, not a finalized button guide. The cited listings do not publish the exact invitation screens, whether the host must create a lobby first, or whether an invite can be sent from inside an active story.
Xbox subscription rule
Xbox explicitly displays: “Game requires online multiplayer subscription to play on console (Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately).” This requirement applies to online console multiplayer. It does not describe a separate subscription requirement for local co-op on the same Xbox, and it does not establish subscription rules for PC, PlayStation, or Steam.
Cross-platform play
Cross-play is not confirmed in the available official information. Do not promise that a Steam player can join an Xbox or PlayStation player, or that a PC and console can share one lobby. Until the publisher or platform listings document cross-play, plan online sessions with both players on the same supported platform family.

Using Steam Remote Play Together
Steam lists Remote Play Together in addition to ordinary online co-op. The feature is designed for a friend to join a supported local-style session remotely, so the host runs the game while the invited player connects through Steam. It can be useful when only one person owns the game or when the game treats the session as local co-op, but the listing does not yet state the final ownership, account, or input rules for Kitaria Fables 2.
Expected setup after launch
- Install and launch the game through Steam on the host PC.
- Connect and test the host controller, then connect a second controller if the remote player will be assigned controller input.
- Open the Steam overlay and invite the friend through the Remote Play Together option when the game is recognized as supporting it.
- Accept the connection and return to the game’s local co-op screen.
- Assign the remote participant to the second hero and verify movement before starting or loading the story.
Steam has not published final button-by-button instructions for this title. The overlay wording, permission prompts, and whether the remote participant may use keyboard input can change before Q2 2027, so follow the controls shown in the released Steam client rather than an older guide.
Choosing the right co-op method
| Choose this | When it fits | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Local/shared-screen | You are in the same room and have one PC or console plus two controllers. | No remote connection is needed, but both players share one display and the same game session. |
| Online co-op | You are in different locations and both want to run the game on supported systems. | Requires an internet connection; Xbox console play additionally requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate. |
| Steam Remote Play Together | The host is on Steam and wants a friend to join a local-style session remotely. | Depends on Steam’s Remote Play connection and the final input/ownership behavior for the game. |
Local play is the simplest choice when both people are physically together. Online co-op is the clearer option when each player has their own copy and platform account. Remote Play Together is a Steam-specific alternative for a remotely connected local session, but its final requirements should be verified after launch.

Troubleshooting co-op problems
The second controller is not detected
- Reconnect the controller before launching the game and confirm that the operating system or console sees it as a second device.
- On Steam, check the controller configuration and make sure both devices are enabled for the game.
- Disconnect other input devices temporarily if the game assigns the wrong controller to player two.
- Restart the game after changing controller assignments. The final release may expose its own input screen, but no title-specific troubleshooting menu has been documented.
An online invitation does not arrive
- Confirm that both players are signed into the same platform network they intend to use.
- Check the platform’s privacy, friend, and communication settings.
- Verify that the Xbox player who is hosting or joining online console multiplayer has Game Pass Core or Ultimate.
- Try sending the invitation from the platform friend list and from the in-game co-op menu if both options are available.
Remote Play Together connects but the friend cannot control a hero
- Open the Steam overlay and review the Remote Play input permissions.
- Ask the remote player to connect a controller before accepting the invitation, then recheck the player assignment.
- Return to the local co-op screen and assign the second hero again.
You cannot find a cross-platform friend
That may be a feature limitation rather than a connection failure. Cross-play has not been confirmed for Kitaria Fables 2, so use the same platform family until official documentation says otherwise.
The menu does not match an online guide
The game is planned for Q2 2027 and is not currently available on Steam. Pre-release screenshots, store metadata, and later patches can change labels and invitation steps. Prefer the instructions shown by the release build and current platform support pages over an early walkthrough.

What is still unknown before release?
The official listings establish the two-player modes, but they do not answer every setup question. These details remain unconfirmed:

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.

- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
- Whether cross-play will work between Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation.
- The exact friend-invite and lobby screens for online co-op.
- Whether every platform requires a second account or permits a guest profile.
- Which keyboard, mouse, and controller combinations are supported on PC.
- Whether online co-op requires each player to own the game, except that Steam Remote Play Together is listed as a feature.
- How save ownership, quest progress, and drop-out behavior are handled.
- The final names of local and online menu items.
These are release-dependent details, not confirmed features. Check the publisher’s current Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation listings close to launch before planning a cross-platform session or buying additional hardware.
Quick preparation checklist
- Plan for two players, not a larger group.
- For couch play, have one supported system and two compatible controllers.
- For online Xbox play, budget for Game Pass Core or Ultimate, sold separately.
- For Steam Remote Play Together, update Steam and test the overlay invitation after the game is released.
- Do not rely on cross-play until an official listing confirms it.
- Remember that the current Steam listing gives a planned Q2 2027 release and the game is not yet available there.
Bottom line
Kitaria Fables 2 is being built for a two-player story campaign with both local/shared-screen and online co-op. Steam adds Remote Play Together, while Xbox confirms two-player local and online modes. Two controllers are the practical requirement for local play, and Xbox console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Core or Ultimate. Because the game is still planned for Q2 2027, wait for the final release documentation before treating invitation screens, cross-play, account rules, or controller combinations as settled.
