To start two-player co-op in Kirby’s Epic Yarn on Wii, sync a second Wii Remote, choose TWO PLAYERS on the title screen or the stage-start screen, and press 2 on the second remote when the P2 mark appears. Player 1 controls Kirby and Player 2 controls Prince Fluff.
Both players normally hold a Wii Remote sideways and use the same basic controls. During a stage, either player can press A to summon Angie, who carries the other player safely; pressing 2 while being carried makes Angie fly faster.

What you need for local co-op
The Wii version of Kirby’s Epic Yarn supports two people playing through the game together. You need the game and two Wii Remotes. The second remote is not optional for the two-player mode: one remote is used by each player.

- Player 1: Kirby
- Player 2: Prince Fluff
- Controller: one Wii Remote per player
- Connection: both remotes must be synced with the Wii before the second player joins
Nintendo describes the mode as playing as Kirby while a friend plays as Prince Fluff. Prince Fluff uses the same basic controls as Kirby, so the second player does not need to learn a separate control scheme for ordinary stages.

How to add the second player
You can set up co-op from the title screen or when a stage is about to begin. The sequence is the same in either location: make the second remote available, select the two-player option, then confirm from the second remote.
- Turn on and sync both Wii Remotes. Make sure the first remote is already connected and then sync the second remote with the Wii. The game cannot assign Player 2 until the console recognizes the second remote.
- Hold the remotes sideways. This is the normal orientation for movement and actions once the game starts.
- Open the player-selection option. At the title screen, choose TWO PLAYERS. If you are starting another stage, choose TWO PLAYERS on the stage-start screen instead.
- Watch for the P2 prompt. The game displays a P2 mark when it is ready for the second player.
- Press 2 on the second Wii Remote. The player using the second remote must press 2 while the P2 mark is shown. This starts two-person cooperative play and assigns Prince Fluff to that remote.
If the game remains in one-player mode, return to the player-selection screen and repeat the process. The important order is to choose TWO PLAYERS first and press 2 only after the P2 mark appears.
Who controls which character?
| Player | Character | Normal control relationship |
|---|---|---|
| Player 1 | Kirby | Uses the standard sideways Wii Remote controls. |
| Player 2 | Prince Fluff | Uses the same basic controls as Kirby. |
Player 2 is not a helper cursor or a temporary guest. Once the P2 prompt is confirmed, Prince Fluff is an active character in the stage. Both players can move, jump, and perform the ordinary actions available to their characters. Because the two characters share the basic control layout, switching between players does not require learning a different button arrangement.

| Button or control | Function |
|---|---|
| + Control Pad | Select menu items and perform movement or other directional actions during play. |
| 2 | Confirm menu items and jump. |
| 1 | Back out of menus, perform whip actions, and roll up enemies. |
| + | Open the pause menu. |
| − | Open the area-selection screen and display controls on the stage screen. |
| A | Summon Angie during a stage so she can carry the other player. |
The directional pad has more than one role. In menus it moves the selection, while in a stage it handles movement and other directional actions. The 2 button is both the normal jump button and the confirmation button used when choosing an option.
How to use Angie to regroup
Co-op stages can leave one player behind. Instead of making the leading player wait or asking the trailing player to repeat a section, either player can press A during a stage to summon Angie.
- Press A on your Wii Remote during the stage.
- Angie appears and carries the other player.
- While being carried, the player cannot be hurt by enemies.
- Press 2 while Angie is carrying the player to make her fly faster.
This is a regrouping and rescue mechanic rather than a second character transformation. It lets the two players reconnect safely when their positions become separated. The carried player is protected from enemy damage during the ride, so Angie is useful when catching up would otherwise require passing through hazards again.
Controls in transformation stages
The sideways Wii Remote layout applies to ordinary play, but Kirby’s Epic Yarn includes transformation stages with different controls. The manual specifically notes that some transformations change the controls for the two players.

Do not assume that the standard movement, jump, or action behavior will be identical in every transformation. If the stage displays control instructions, use the − button to display the controls on the stage screen. Treat those instructions as the authority for the current transformation rather than relying on the ordinary Kirby and Prince Fluff layout.
The character assignment does not change: Player 1 remains Kirby and Player 2 remains Prince Fluff. What changes is how the current transformation responds to the Wii Remote.
When to point the Wii Remote at the screen
Most play uses the Wii Remote sideways, but not every part of the game uses that orientation. Point the remote at the screen for cursor-based menus and for redecorating the room in Dom Woole’s apartment building.
- Normal stages: hold each remote sideways.
- Cursor-based menus: point the remote at the screen.
- Room decoration in Dom Woole’s apartment building: point the remote at the screen.
If a menu expects a pointer and the remote is still sideways, the buttons may appear unresponsive because the game is waiting for pointer movement. Likewise, pointing during an ordinary platforming section is unnecessary; return to the sideways grip for movement and actions.

Troubleshooting a second player who cannot join
The TWO PLAYERS option is not selected
Co-op does not begin merely because two remotes are switched on. At the title screen or stage-start screen, explicitly choose TWO PLAYERS. The P2 prompt follows that selection.
The P2 mark does not appear
Check that the second Wii Remote is synced with the Wii, then return to the player-selection screen and choose TWO PLAYERS again. The second player joins only when the game shows the P2 mark.
The wrong remote is being used
The remote that presses 2 at the P2 prompt becomes the second player’s controller. Use the remote held by the person who should play Prince Fluff. If the other person presses the button, the player assignments will follow that input.

Wait until the P2 mark is visible before pressing 2. Pressing the button before the prompt is displayed does not complete the two-player join sequence.

Movement feels wrong after entering a menu
Check the controller orientation. Hold the remote sideways for ordinary movement, but point it at the screen for cursor-based menus and apartment-room decoration. Press 1 to back out of a menu if you entered the wrong screen, then resume the appropriate grip.
A transformation does not respond like a normal stage
Some transformations use different controls for the two players. Press − to display the controls on the stage screen and follow the instructions for that transformation.
How co-op works during a stage
Both players share the same stage and progress through it together, with Kirby in Player 1’s hands and Prince Fluff in Player 2’s. The equivalent basic controls make it practical for either player to move and jump without assigning one person a special support role.

When one player falls behind, Angie provides the built-in way to regroup. The carried player is protected from enemy damage, and the 2 button speeds up Angie’s flight. This means the trailing player can return to the other player without taking the same enemy hits while catching up.
Use the pause function when you need to stop and coordinate: either player can press + to open the pause menu. The − button can show the stage controls, which is particularly useful after a transformation changes the usual input behavior.
A practical first-session setup
For a smooth first co-op session, assign the remotes before entering a stage and explain the two button combinations that matter most: 2 confirms and jumps, while A calls Angie during a stage.
- Give one synced remote to each player.
- Decide who will be Player 1 and who will be Player 2 before selecting the mode.
- Choose TWO PLAYERS from the title screen or stage-start screen.
- Have the intended Player 2 press 2 at the P2 prompt.
- Start with both remotes sideways for normal play.
- Use − if either player needs to see the current stage controls.
- If one player is separated, press A to summon Angie and press 2 during the carry to speed up the regroup.
This setup keeps the join process, character assignments, and rescue option clear before the stage becomes busy.
