You cannot officially play God of War III Remastered on an Xbox Series X by installing a PS4 emulator. Sony lists the remaster as a PlayStation 4 game released on July 14, 2015. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S backward-compatibility program covers selected Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One games—not PlayStation 4 software. The PCSX4 project documents PC, macOS, Linux and Android targets, but no Xbox Series X version. To play this specific game, use a PlayStation 4, or a PlayStation 5 after confirming that the current regional compatibility listing still supports it.
The short answer
There is no supported procedure that turns an Xbox Series X into a PlayStation 4 for this game. God of War III Remastered was released for PS4, and its official listing identifies that platform and a July 14, 2015 release date. The remaster supports 1080p output at 60 frames per second on the PS4 version.

Xbox Series X backward compatibility is a separate system. Microsoft describes it as support for selected Xbox 360, original Xbox and Xbox One games that you already own. A PS4 title is outside that documented Xbox compatibility family, so an Xbox cannot simply install the PlayStation build.
Community emulator projects do not change that platform boundary. PCSX4’s own FAQ describes beta targets for PC, macOS, Linux and Android; it does not document an Xbox Series X distribution or verified Xbox gameplay for this title. A separate Windows 10/11 project also cannot be treated as Xbox support.

Where God of War III Remastered is officially playable
PlayStation 4
The official Sony product page identifies God of War III Remastered PS4 as a PlayStation 4 release from July 14, 2015. It explains that the original game was developed for PlayStation 3 and remastered for PlayStation 4, with gameplay supporting 1080p at 60fps. A PS4 is therefore the direct, supported platform for the remaster.
You can use a compatible PS4 console with a legitimate disc or digital copy. The exact purchase and account requirements depend on whether you use a disc edition or a digital license, but neither method involves emulation or an Xbox console.
PlayStation 5
Sony’s current listing says the game is playable on PS5, subject to system-software and feature conditions. That wording means compatibility should be checked against the current regional PlayStation listing before you buy or install it. It does not mean that an Xbox can run the PS5 or PS4 software, and it does not establish a separate native PS5 edition.

Why Xbox backward compatibility does not include this PS4 game
Xbox Series X backward compatibility is designed for software from Microsoft’s own console families. Microsoft states that the program is free and allows selected Xbox 360, original Xbox and Xbox One games you already own to run on Xbox Series X|S. Selection matters: even within those Xbox generations, compatibility is not universal.

God of War III Remastered belongs to the PlayStation 4 software family. It was not released as an Xbox One, Xbox 360 or original Xbox title, so it does not appear in the Xbox backward-compatibility category merely because the Series X is a newer console. Console generation and platform family are different things.
Backward compatibility also is not a general-purpose emulator installer. The Xbox operating system recognizes supported Xbox titles through Microsoft’s compatibility catalog and licensing systems. It does not provide a menu for loading a PlayStation disc image, PS4 executable or PlayStation firmware.
Is there a PS4 emulator for Xbox Series X?
What PCSX4 actually documents
PCSX4’s FAQ describes a beta PS4/PS5 emulator for PC, macOS, Linux and Android. Those are the platforms named by the project. The FAQ does not document an Xbox Series X build, an Xbox installation package, verified Series X performance or compatibility with God of War III Remastered.

That distinction is important. A project can be real for one operating system while being unavailable for another. A download labelled “for Xbox” is not validated by the project’s documented target list. Treat claims that PCSX4 runs on an Xbox Series X as unsupported unless the project itself publishes an Xbox release and instructions.

Why a Windows port is not an Xbox port
A separate community project reports a Windows 10/11 port of God of War III Remastered. Windows 10/11 and Xbox Series X use different software environments, packaging requirements and platform permissions. A Windows executable cannot be assumed to install on an Xbox, and a Windows project does not prove that the game runs on Microsoft’s console.
The same rule applies to PC emulator builds. “Runs on PC” identifies a computer target, not an Xbox target. Without an official Xbox build, documented installation path and verified gameplay on Series X hardware, there is no factual basis for presenting such a project as an Xbox solution.
What happens if you try to install an alleged Xbox emulator
There is no documented PCSX4 installation route for Xbox Series X. Consequently, a user following an unofficial download may encounter one or more of these predictable support problems:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- No compatible package: the download may contain Windows, Linux, macOS or Android files rather than an Xbox application package.
- Unsupported executable: an Xbox console will not automatically run a desktop operating-system executable.
- No verified game support: even an emulator that starts on another device may not emulate this particular title.
- Missing platform components: PlayStation emulation can involve firmware and game data, but the cited project does not provide an Xbox Series X workflow for obtaining or using them.
- Security and licensing risk: unofficial packages may be modified, misleading or bundled with unwanted software. Emulator legality, firmware handling and game-dump rules vary by jurisdiction.
Do not disable console security, install copied firmware or download unauthorized game files in an attempt to force compatibility. If a page promises a one-click “PS4 emulator for Xbox Series X,” it is making a claim that is not supported by the documented platform information.

Supported ways to play the remaster
Option 1: Use a PlayStation 4
- Confirm that the product is the PS4 version of God of War III Remastered.
- Use a compatible PlayStation 4 console.
- Install the game from your legitimate disc or from the PlayStation account that owns the digital version.
- Apply any system or game updates offered by the console, then launch the title normally.
This route uses the platform for which Sony released the remaster and avoids unsupported emulation.
Option 2: Use a PlayStation 5 after checking compatibility
- Open Sony’s current regional product or compatibility listing for the game.
- Check that the listing still marks the title as playable on PS5 and note any system-software or feature conditions.
- Use the eligible disc or digital entitlement described by Sony for your region.
- Install and launch the game on the PS5 according to the console’s normal instructions.
Compatibility listings can change by region or system software, so verify the entry at the time you plan to play rather than relying on an old forum post.
Option 3: Choose a different game on Xbox
If the requirement is simply “a God of War game on an Xbox Series X,” check the current Xbox catalog for separately released entries. That is a different product from God of War III Remastered; an Xbox listing for another title does not make the PS4 remaster compatible. Availability can vary by region, edition and date, so use the live Xbox catalog for the exact game you are considering.
A practical decision guide
| Your situation | Best next step | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| You own only an Xbox Series X | Use the Xbox catalog for a separate, officially released game or obtain access to a PS4/PS5 | Xbox backward compatibility does not add PS4 software |
| You own a PS4 | Use the legitimate PS4 edition of the remaster | No emulator is needed |
| You own a PS5 | Check Sony’s current regional compatibility listing and its conditions | Do not infer support from an outdated listing |
| You found a PCSX4 download | Read the project’s documented target platforms before installing anything | A PC, Mac, Linux or Android build is not an Xbox build |
| You found a Windows 10/11 port | Treat it as Windows-only unless its maintainers document another target | Windows support does not prove Series X support |
Common questions about Xbox, emulation and this game
Can I install PCSX4 directly from the Xbox Store?
No documented Xbox Series X version is provided by the cited PCSX4 information, so there is no supported Xbox Store installation path to follow.

Will the PS4 disc work in an Xbox Series X?
No. The Xbox console’s backward-compatibility program concerns selected Xbox-family discs and digital licenses. A PlayStation 4 disc is not an Xbox-compatible game disc.
Does the Windows 10/11 project make the game playable on Xbox?
No. Its stated target is Windows 10/11. That establishes neither an Xbox executable nor console verification.
Can an Xbox emulator run the game if I supply the files?
No Xbox emulator capable of running this title is documented in the available platform information. Supplying files cannot substitute for a compatible emulator, platform build and legally usable game data.
Is the PS5 option guaranteed everywhere?
Sony’s listing says PS5 playability is subject to system-software and feature conditions. Check the current listing for your region before relying on PS5 compatibility.
Bottom line for Xbox Series X owners
God of War III Remastered is a PS4 game, not an Xbox backward-compatible title. PCSX4 documents PC, macOS, Linux and Android targets, while the related community port targets Windows 10/11; neither provides evidence of Xbox Series X support. Use a PS4, verify PS5 compatibility through Sony’s current listing, or select a separately released game from the Xbox catalog. Avoid downloads that promise a PS4 emulator for Xbox without an official Xbox build and documented support.
