FriendSLAP is the label used for Keep It Up!, a cooperative slapstick physics game from Hitbox Entertainment. Your team must keep one balloon off the floor while moving through obstacle rooms. You can play alone or with up to three other test subjects, and every drop costs a life. The most reliable way to survive is to read the balloon’s arc early, make small controlled corrections, and give the next player a clear target before anyone swings.
The game is listed on Steam with a demo, while the full release is planned for Q4 2026. This guide explains the confirmed rules and hazards, then turns them into practical positioning, communication and practice routines.

What FriendSLAP actually is
FriendSLAP is the name used for Keep It Up!, a cooperative physics game presented by Hitbox Entertainment. The premise is deliberately simple: a balloon must remain airborne as players slap, jump and collide through obstacle rooms. The slapstick comes from the physics and from the fact that teammates can hit one another as well as the balloon.
The Steam description allows a solo player or a group in which up to three additional Facility test subjects join. In practical terms, that means one to four people can take part in a run. The official materials describe 15 escalating rooms, with hazards including fans, spikes, lasers and tight corridors.

The objective and the life system
Every room has the same central condition: keep the balloon from touching the floor. A drop costs one life. When the team has no lives left, the run ends; the final dropped balloon takes the team with it. The official press release summarizes the stakes this way: “Drop the balloon? It literally explodes. Run out of lives? The whole team is incinerated… Simple!” That sentence comes from Alibi Games’ 16 October 2026 announcement.
The reviewed official descriptions do not publish the exact number of lives, whether lives carry between rooms, or whether checkpoints preserve progress. Treat a life as a scarce team resource rather than assuming that every room gives you a fresh allowance.
How to play a run, step by step
- Start with the demo or the released build. Confirm the current control prompts, camera settings and accessibility options in the game’s own menus. No universal keyboard, controller or mouse mapping has been published.
- Watch the first contact. Before swinging, identify whether the balloon is rising, falling or drifting sideways. Move toward the point where it will be reachable, not toward the shadow it has already left behind.
- Choose a receiver. The player nearest the predicted contact point should take responsibility. Everyone else should create space and prepare for the next lane.
- Make the smallest correction that restores safety. A light, centered touch is usually easier for the next player to read than a panic hit. The official materials do not publish force values, so treat this as a practical technique rather than a measured physics rule.
- Call the next direction early. Short calls such as “left,” “high,” “short” or “save” tell the next player where to move while the balloon is still traveling.
- Reposition immediately. After contact, do not admire the hit. Move toward the next likely lane, clear the receiver’s path and check the nearest hazard.
- Review one variable after a drop. Change only one element on the next attempt—receiver position, call timing or contact strength. This makes it possible to tell which adjustment helped.
The contact technique that keeps rallies stable
Read the arc, not just the height
A balloon that is high but falling quickly can be more urgent than one that is low and still rising. Track its vertical trend and sideways drift together. If it is moving toward a wall or hazard, begin moving before the descent becomes obvious. Chasing the current position leaves you reacting late and often forces a stronger swing.

Use a safe lane
Before each touch, identify a patch of open space where the next player can reach the balloon. Aim into that lane rather than simply hitting upward. Near a ceiling, fan or spike line, extra vertical force can create a worse problem; a modest sideways guide may be enough.
Favor predictable angles
Side-on guidance is particularly useful when the balloon already has sufficient height. A predictable horizontal route gives the next receiver time to set their feet. Near a narrow corridor, approach from the side and avoid crossing directly through the balloon’s intended path.
Separate the touch from the rescue
One player should make the planned contact while another remains available for a low save. If everyone commits to the same swing, a miss or teammate collision can remove the only rescue option. The game explicitly permits slapping teammates, so spacing is part of the challenge, not a cosmetic detail.

| Team size | Suggested assignment | How to rotate |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Alternate between predicting the next contact and watching the immediate save. Use the camera and character movement to arrive early rather than relying on a last-second jump. | After every touch, switch your attention from contact point to hazard scan, then back to the next contact. |
| Two players | Use a left/right or near/far split. One player takes the planned touch; the other covers a low or overshot save. | Swap sides when the room repeatedly sends the balloon toward one player’s hazard. |
| Three players | Assign a primary receiver, a low-save player and a forward scout who watches the next lane. | Rotate after a drop or after clearing a difficult section so one person is not always responsible for rescues. |
| Four players | Keep one player as a clear rescue option, two players covering the current lane and one player reading the next obstacle. | Rotate the rescue position when the room changes direction; do not let all four collapse onto one contact point. |
Use names or positions in calls when “left” is ambiguous. For example, “Mina, high right” identifies both the receiver and the target. Keep calls brief; a long explanation arrives after the balloon has already moved.
Hazard-by-hazard playbook
Spikes
Spikes punish unnecessary sideways speed. If the balloon is already near a spike line, favor a stabilizing touch toward open space instead of a dramatic redirect. Position the next receiver away from the hazard so the recovery does not require another emergency swing.
Fans
Fans can change the balloon’s arc, so leave more room for correction than you would in an open room. Send one player ahead to identify the likely exit lane, while the active receiver approaches from the side. Avoid stacking directly beneath the balloon; a sudden drift can turn a routine catch into a collision.

Lasers
Predictability matters more than height. Call the crossing early and choose one route through the laser area. Random mid-flight changes force every teammate to move at once, increasing the chance of a body collision or a mistimed slap.

Tight corridors
Use controlled side-on contacts and set up the next receiver before touching the balloon. The player who makes the contact should not block the corridor’s only rescue route. If the balloon is already aligned with the corridor, preserve that alignment instead of adding a second direction.
Mixed or escalating layouts
The official materials describe 15 rooms that become more difficult. When a room combines hazards, identify the first dangerous transition and plan around it. Do not change every role after a failure; isolate the problem to timing, position or contact strength and test one adjustment.

- Lane control: aim every touch toward an open receiver rather than straight upward.

- Hazard calls: add a one-word warning such as “fan,” “spikes” or “laser” before the direction call.
- Minimal corrections: deliberately reduce swing strength and observe whether the next player receives a more manageable arc.
After each failure, record three facts: the last safe touch, the hazard or boundary that ended the rally, and the one change you will make next time. What happens when the balloon drops?
The drop costs a life immediately. Continue only if the team still has a life available; otherwise the run ends and the team is incinerated according to the game’s press-release description. The exact life count, checkpoint behavior and recovery animation are not stated in the official materials reviewed, so do not rely on an assumed number of retries or automatic room resets.
Use a drop as diagnostic information. If the balloon was reachable but nobody called the lane, improve communication. If two players reached it together, assign a primary receiver. If the contact sent it into a hazard, reduce force or choose a side-on angle. Changing all three at once makes the next result difficult to interpret.
Optional real-world balloon practice
You can rehearse the communication and spacing skills away from the game with a clear area and inflated latex balloons. The Yombu ruleset uses one balloon, spare inflated balloons, counting each touch and resetting when the balloon reaches the floor. A cited variation uses flat-hand hits and prevents the same player from hitting twice in a row.
Those are practice rules, not confirmed mechanics of Keep It Up!. They are useful because they force players to call the next receiver, avoid crowding and make controlled contacts. Keep the exercise away from fragile objects, ceiling fans and people who could be struck by an accidental hit.
Availability, scope and confirmed figures

| Game identity | FriendSLAP is the label used for Keep It Up! by Hitbox Entertainment. | The names refer to the same project in the cited official listings. |
| Players | Solo play or up to three additional Facility test subjects. | This implies one to four participants; the listing does not describe every mode or matchmaking option. |
| Rooms | 15 escalating obstacle rooms. | The count appears in official Steam and press materials. |
| Hazards | Fans, spikes, lasers, tight corridors and increasingly difficult layouts. | Exact force values, activation cycles and collision tables are not published. |
| Demo and release | A Steam demo is listed; the full game is planned for Q4 2026. | Release timing can change before launch. |
| Demo downloads | Alibi Games reported more than 500,000 demo downloads. | This is the figure in its 16 October 2026 GamesPress release, not an independently measured lifetime total. |
No official source reviewed publishes frame-perfect slap timing, input-latency targets, a complete life allowance, checkpoint retention or numerical hazard-force tables. Strategies that depend on those values should therefore be treated as experimentation in the current demo, not guaranteed rules.
A compact pre-run checklist
- Confirm everyone knows the current controls and camera behavior.
- Choose a primary receiver and a rescue position before the first hazard.
- Agree on short calls: direction, height and save.
- Watch the balloon’s trend before moving or swinging.
- Send controlled touches into open lanes.
- Keep at least one player clear of the contact point.
- After a drop, change one variable and try again.
The winning habit is not hitting the balloon as hard or as often as possible. It is making each contact understandable: one player takes responsibility, the next player knows where the balloon is going, and the team leaves enough space to recover when a fan, laser, spike or corridor changes the plan.
