In the mobile app, the advertised loop is to tap for buttons, buy buildings, unlock skills, and hire Collectors to automate income. On Steam, collect buttons, buy buildings, use skills, automate collection, and protect your stash from intruders. Their mechanics should not be assumed to match.
First, choose the Buttons Up! you mean
The titles are easy to confuse, but they are separate releases. Pepperbox Studios’ mobile app listing describes an idle clicker with tapping, buildings, skills, Collectors, offline earnings, and gnomes. Jestercraft’s Steam listing describes a PC game with collection, buildings, skills, automated collection, and stealing intruders. The Steam page lists Windows, macOS, and SteamOS/Linux requirements.
Use the instructions and unlocks shown in your own version. Neither release’s public description establishes that its prices, upgrade order, skills, worlds, or save features carry over to the other.
How to start and progress in the mobile game
Tap, then invest in the visible loop
Tap to collect buttons until the app offers an affordable building or other production option. Before spending, compare its displayed cost with the income or unlock effect shown in your version. The listing confirms tapping and buildings, but does not publish costs or production rates, so there is no verified universal first purchase.

The mobile listing names Collectors as a way to automate income and advertises earnings while you are offline. Use skills and follow unlock requirements
Skills, achievements, and additional worlds or content are among the features described by the app listing. Treat the requirements displayed in-game as progression checkpoints: compare the benefit of an available skill with the cost of delaying a building or automation option. No public source establishes exact unlock thresholds or a best skill sequence.

How to progress in the Steam game
The Steam description outlines a similar broad cycle—collect buttons, buy buildings, use skills, automate collection, and keep buttons safe from intruders—but it is a separate PC release. Its store page says that completing the game unlocks more. A developer announcement also mentions a save/load system, bounty bonuses for smacking gnomes, and unlockable accessories and features.
Use the current game’s tutorial and displayed requirements to decide what to do next. The available descriptions do not give a tested build, exact thresholds, or enough detail to prescribe a particular defense setup or purchase order.

Make upgrade decisions without guessing

- Cost: how many buttons the purchase uses now.
- Effect: the displayed change to income, collection, or another relevant system.
- Unlock: whether it opens a skill, automation option, or required content.
- Immediate threat: whether gnomes or intruders are putting your stash at risk, and which defensive controls the game actually offers.
That framework helps compare options without pretending a specific sequence is proven. Do not assume a turret, trap, defensive upgrade, reset mechanic, or particular gnome behavior unless your version shows it.

What is—and is not—established about efficient play
The official store descriptions and developer announcement document advertised features, not tested performance. They do not establish exact upgrade prices, button-per-second rates, offline caps, skill effects, gnome behavior in detail, or best purchase timing. The mobile listing shows an update dated June 30, 2026; menus and numbers can change, so check the current in-game wording rather than relying on an old strategy.
