The most dependable documented way to play Bloodborne on a Steam Deck is to stream it from a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 using chiaki-ng. The console runs the game; the Deck acts as a remote-play screen and controller. If you do not have a PlayStation, local play through ShadPS4 is an experimental alternative, not a guaranteed plug-and-play setup.
Choose the route that fits your setup
| Your situation | Route | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You have a PS4 or PS5 that can run Bloodborne | Stream with chiaki-ng | Less emulator troubleshooting, but the console must be available and the network needs to be good. Sony Remote Play and the chiaki-ng project document this route. |
| You have no PlayStation console and are comfortable troubleshooting | Try local emulation with ShadPS4 | The game runs on the Deck through an early-stage emulator; compatibility and stability can change. See the ShadPS4 project and its releases. |
| You want a verified, guaranteed native Steam Deck installation | No such setup is established here | Bloodborne is not a standard Steam game for the Deck, and an experimental emulator is not equivalent to a native release. Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility program rates reviewed Steam titles; it does not validate this non-Steam emulation setup. |
The choice comes down to four practical questions: whether you already own a suitable console, how much setup work you accept, whether you can rely on your network, and whether you want the game streamed or emulated locally.

Stream Bloodborne from a PlayStation with chiaki-ng
Sony states that a PS4 or PS5 is required for Remote Play. You also need Bloodborne available on that console. The Steam Deck does not run the game in this setup; it receives the stream and sends your controls back to the console. Sony describes Remote Play as usable over a high-speed internet connection, so the experience depends on network conditions. Sony also notes that restrictions can apply depending on content or how Remote Play is used. Check Sony’s Remote Play requirements before setting it up.
Set up the console and Deck
- Enable Remote Play on the console. Use the console’s Remote Play setting, following the current instructions for your PS4 or PS5.
- Configure rest-mode networking if you want remote wake. The chiaki-ng Steam Deck setup guide covers the console settings needed to make the console reachable from rest mode. Menu labels may differ as system software changes.
- Install and configure chiaki-ng on the Steam Deck. Follow the project’s current Steam Deck instructions to pair the client with your console. Pairing screens and steps can change, so use the current guide rather than relying on older walkthroughs.
- Launch the stream and check the connection. Start Bloodborne on the console through the Deck client. If the stream is unstable or controls feel delayed, first check the network connection and whether the console is reachable; Remote Play quality is network-dependent.
See the chiaki-ng project documentation for its setup guide. This is the more straightforward documented route if you already have a console that can run the game; it is not a console-free install.

Run Bloodborne locally with ShadPS4 only if you accept experimentation
ShadPS4 is an early PlayStation 4 emulator, and its project documentation says it can run Bloodborne. That is not a promise of smooth or reliable play on every Steam Deck or every emulator build. The ShadPS4 user guide warns: “shadPS4 is still early in development. Many games do not work, and the few that do work usually face various emulation issues.” Read the project’s current documentation and release information before committing time to this route.
Development is active: the releases page records a Bloodborne speedup fix in v0.13.0 and a prerelease dated 2026-10-04. Those changes show ongoing work, not a measured frame rate or a guarantee for a particular Deck model. No authoritative, current Steam Deck-specific Bloodborne performance benchmark is established here.

What the DeckBorne installer workflow requires
DeckBorne is a community SteamOS workflow that installs ShadPS4 and configures game files supplied by the user. Its published requirements apply to that installer workflow, not to every possible ShadPS4 setup:

DeckBorne says it does not provide or link Bloodborne game files. Its documentation does not establish a legal ruling or give a general game-dumping procedure, so this article does not offer instructions for obtaining copyrighted files. Its disclaimer also says the LCD model needs more testing; the installer should not be treated as validated across both LCD and OLED Decks. Quick Recap
Rank #4
- Valve is entering the gaming console marketplace with the new Steam Deck, a console geared towards PC gamers. The Steam Deck can be docked to a monitor, and used as a PC, or docked to a TV.
- Players can play a huge variety of games at any time with the comfort of a console and the freedom of a PC. Not anti-glare screen.
- Like the name suggests, the Steam Deck will include upgraded 1TB storage, and will include a carrying case. A micro SD slot will also enable expanded storage.
- Valve partnered with AMD to create a specialized APU optimized for handheld gaming, and Valve says the chip will deliver performance to run AAA gaming titles.
- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.

What to expect before you start
- Streaming requires a PlayStation. Sony’s Remote Play requirement is a PS4 or PS5, and Bloodborne must be available on that console.
- Local emulation is an evolving project. ShadPS4’s own warning makes clear that compatibility and emulation issues remain possible; check current releases rather than treating an old guide as definitive.
- Do not assume a performance figure. The documented fixes and release dates do not establish a representative frame rate for any Deck model.
- Community-installer requirements are specific. DeckBorne’s storage, files, and USB details describe its workflow, not universal ShadPS4 requirements.
