That does not settle whether you can download, modify, redistribute, or self-host its weights: as of October 9, 2026, Mistral said the weights were forthcoming, and their eventual license had not yet been published in the sources available. Before choosing a deployment, check where the model will run, how preview data may be used, and what your contract authorizes.
Can I use Mistral Large 4 commercially?
For API use through Mistral’s service, yes, subject to Mistral’s Commercial Terms of Service, applicable additional product terms, and its usage policy. The commercial terms, effective September 25, 2026, cover commercial customers and apply when a customer accepts them through signup or an Order Form, or uses the products on the customer’s behalf. They grant a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and generally non-sublicensable right to access and use the products under those terms. Read Mistral’s Commercial Terms of Service and Additional Product Terms for the provisions applicable to your service.

This is a right to use a hosted product; it is not, by itself, a license to obtain or run model weights. Mistral’s model record identifies Large 4 as an active general-purpose AI model released October 6, 2026, but that lifecycle record does not grant download or self-hosting rights. See the model record.
Can I self-host Mistral Large 4?
Do not assume so based on the “open-weight” label. On October 9, 2026, Mistral’s official documentation described Large 4 as available in public preview, while its changelog said the weights were still forthcoming. In its October 6 launch announcement, Mistral said, “We will release the weights by the end of this month.” That was a stated intention, not confirmation that the weights had been released or a guarantee of the date. Check the model documentation, the changelog, and the launch announcement for updates.
#1 Best Overall
Until the release package and its license are available, the permissions for downloading, modifying, redistributing, or commercially self-hosting the weights are unresolved. Review the actual license and accompanying terms when released; do not treat the API agreement as a substitute.
Where will the model run, and what must the contract authorize?
Mistral’s commercial terms distinguish between its own infrastructure, partner infrastructure, and customer infrastructure. For use on customer infrastructure, the terms require express authorization in an Order Form. Partner-hosted deployments are subject to the partner’s ordering documentation and the terms for the partner-served deployment. Confirm the contractual route for the specific service rather than assuming API access includes deployment rights on your own systems.
Mistral’s launch announcement describes a planned European deployment operated end-to-end by Mistral under European law and says the model is planned for multiple regions. These are vendor statements about planned service availability, not proof that a particular account has a specific region, data-residency commitment, or self-hosting option. Check the service documentation and your Order Form for the commitments that apply to your deployment.

Can Mistral use my prompts to train its models?
Mistral’s commercial terms say inputs and outputs for preview models may be used to train its models. They also state that opt-out settings selected for other products, including zero data retention, do not apply to Labs or Preview Models. Because Large 4 was in public preview on October 9, 2026, treat this data provision as a material review point before sending confidential, personal, or regulated information. Check the current terms and the specific product configuration before use.

Who owns submitted data and outputs?
Mistral’s commercial terms say that, to the extent permitted by applicable law, the customer retains ownership rights in Customer Data and owns Output; Mistral assigns any right it may have in Output. This contractual allocation does not guarantee that every output is protectable or usable for every purpose, and it does not remove your responsibility to have permission to submit the data or to assess the output.
What responsibilities and restrictions still apply?
The commercial terms and usage policy govern how the service may be used. Among other things, the terms require compliance with applicable law, the policy, and third-party rights; restrict reverse engineering and attempts to discover underlying components; and limit certain third-party access and integrations without authorization. The customer is responsible for ensuring it has the rights and permissions needed for submitted data and for reviewing output for accuracy and suitability. Read the full agreement and policy against your specific use case before launch.

What model specifications and API prices are published?
Mistral’s documentation lists a 1-million-token context window. Its October 6, 2026 snapshot displayed the following API rates during a sale period; prices are volatile, so verify the live model page before budgeting.

| API usage | Displayed sale-period price | Displayed pre-sale price |
|---|---|---|
| Input | $0.68 per million tokens | $1.36 per million tokens |
| Cached input | $0.07 per million tokens | $0.14 per million tokens |
| Output | $2.09 per million tokens | $4.18 per million tokens |
The changelog described the launch discount as 50% for two weeks. The sale-period rates are a dated snapshot, not a standing price promise. Check Mistral’s model page for current specifications and pricing.
Quick Recap
Commercial-use checklist
- Choose the deployment route. Identify whether you will use Mistral’s infrastructure, a partner’s infrastructure, or customer infrastructure.
- Confirm authorization. For customer-infrastructure use, obtain the express authorization required in an Order Form; for partner service, review the partner’s ordering and deployment terms.
- Review preview data terms. Determine whether the preview-model training provision is acceptable for the data you plan to send; do not assume other products’ opt-outs apply.
- Validate data and output rights. Confirm permission to submit all data and establish a review process for output accuracy, appropriateness, and legal compliance.
- Check the weight release separately. If you need to download or self-host, wait for the released weights and examine their specific license and accompanying terms.
- Verify region and price in your service documents. Treat announced availability and dated price snapshots as different from the commitments and rates in your account or Order Form.
