You can play Apex Legends on Steam and keep your existing progress, provided you use the Steam account linked to the EA Account that holds that progress. Before launching the game, check your EA Account’s Connected Accounts page. Progress is tied to the EA Account; unlinking Steam or linking it to another EA Account does not transfer it.
What you need before playing on Steam
- Apex Legends is available on Steam for PC, and an EA Account is required to play, according to the EA Apex Legends FAQ.
- Your existing progress is associated with the EA Account where it was earned. Linking the correct Steam account gives you access to that progress; it does not move progress between EA Accounts. See EA’s Cross Progression guidance.
- Use the Steam account already connected to the EA Account with your Apex progress. If you are unsure which one that is, check the account links before starting the game.
Check your linked accounts before launching
- Sign in to the EA Account you believe holds your Apex Legends progress.
- Open the EA Account settings and select Connected Accounts.
- Check whether the Steam account shown is the one you intend to use. If progress is already on this EA Account, do not unlink or substitute a different Steam account without first confirming the consequences with EA Support.
- Launch Apex Legends from Steam using that linked Steam account. Do not also launch the game through the EA app at the same time with the same linked account.
For a new player, sign in to or create an EA Account, then launch the game and link the platform account to it. EA identifies the EA Account as the account that stores Apex progress in its Cross Progression help.

Can I switch between playing on Steam and EA App?
Yes. EA says you can play through Steam or the EA app, but warns against launching Apex Legends on both clients simultaneously with the same linked account because it can cause progression issues. Use one client at a time. This guidance appears in the EA Apex Legends FAQ.

What happens if Steam is linked to the wrong EA Account?
Changing the link is not a way to transfer progress. EA warns that unlinking a platform account can affect access to progress and entitlements, and that Steam entitlements remain on the EA Account first linked. Unlinking may also cause Battle Pass leveling or unlock issues. Review EA’s account unlinking guidance before making a change.

If the link is already wrong, first identify the EA Account that contains your Apex progress. Do not assume that connecting Steam to another EA Account will bring that progress with it. If you cannot determine the correct account or are unsure how to restore the link safely, contact EA Support.
What to do if your progress disappears
- Check which EA Account is currently linked to the Steam account under Connected Accounts.
- If Steam was unlinked, EA’s lost-progress guidance is to relink it to the EA Account that contains the Apex progress.
- If the progress still does not appear, contact EA Support to check the account and platform links. EA says content missed by the one-time Cross Progression merge cannot be restored or merged later.

How Cross Progression affects multiple profiles
EA introduced Cross Progression in October 2023. Players with one Apex account did not have an account change. Where multiple platform accounts were linked to one EA Account at rollout, EA says the highest-level profile became the Cross Progression account. This applied to multiple profiles associated with the same EA Account; it did not merge progress across separate EA Accounts.
