What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Start with the systems your group owns, then check how each game handles co-op before weighing combat and character building. “Multiplayer” alone does not guarantee cross-play, a shared campaign, or matching progress. Monster Hunter Wilds and Path of Exile 2 illustrate two different styles, but you should verify the current details for the exact platform edition before buying.
1. Check everyone’s platform first
Write down whether each player uses PC, PlayStation or Xbox, including the relevant console generation and storefront. If your group spans platforms, keep only games with an explicit cross-play statement for the exact game and version you plan to use. A listing for one platform does not establish availability or compatibility on another.

Steam’s PC listing for Monster Hunter Wilds includes “Cross-Platform Multiplayer” among its features. That supports considering it for a cross-platform group, but the Steam listing alone does not establish the details for every console edition. PlayStation Blog’s May 30, 2024 announcement said Path of Exile 2 would offer full cross-play and cross-progression. Because that is an announcement, confirm that the features are available for the current version and the platforms your group uses.
2. Decide what “co-op” needs to mean
Before comparing combat, agree on how you intend to play. Online sessions, couch co-op on one console, and a campaign that can be played cooperatively from the start are different requirements. Ask these questions on each game’s current platform page or official support page:

- Can all members of your group join the same session, and what is the party limit?
- Can you play the campaign together throughout, or only selected activities?
- Can players join or leave during a session?
- Is progress shared, tied to a host, or saved separately for each player?
- Does the edition require an online subscription, account, or specific game version for each player?
The available product listing and announcement do not resolve all of these points for every edition. Treat each as a check, not an assumption based on the word “co-op.”
Online versus couch play
If you want to share one screen and console, look for an explicit local or couch co-op feature. The 2024 PlayStation Blog announcement describes couch co-op for Path of Exile 2 on one console. It says two players can collaborate using one Path of Exile account or sign in with two separate accounts. Check current platform instructions before relying on that setup.

3. Match the combat loop to your group
Once the practical requirements fit, compare what players will spend their time doing. Monster Hunter Wilds is listed by Steam as an Action, Adventure and RPG game, with online co-op; it is a grounded example for a group drawn to preparing for and fighting monsters. Path of Exile 2 is presented in the PlayStation Blog announcement as an action RPG with extensive character customization, skills and bosses, making it a contrasting option for players who enjoy experimenting with builds. These are differences in emphasis, not a ranking of which game is better.

Steam’s listing identifies CAPCOM as developer and publisher, gives February 27, 2025 as the PC Steam release date, and labels the game Action, Adventure and RPG. Its features include Online Co-op and Cross-Platform Multiplayer. The listing is evidence about that Steam edition; it does not settle console availability, exact party limits, campaign co-op rules, or online subscription requirements.

- Maladum is a fantasy miniatures board game set in the kingdoms of Enveron, a prosperous continent on a distant world
- Your players control small bands of Adventurers seeking their fortune across a detailed 3D gaming area (no glue or paint required)
- You must venture out from your camp, defeat your enemies, complete the objectives and get back to safety -- that last part is vital!
- When the Adventurers have taken their actions, the game fights back -- evil revenants shamble towards you, wandering beasts emerge from their lairs and fellow NPC Adventurers find themselves lost in the chaos, all controlled by the game's mechanics!
Path of Exile 2: character-building depth
In a PlayStation Blog article published May 30, 2024, Grinding Gear Games game director Jonathan Rogers described twelve character classes, 240 Skill Gems, 200 Support Gems and a passive tree with 1,500 skills. Those are announced system counts, not a measure of quality or proof that every player will find the systems approachable. They may appeal to groups that like spending time shaping characters, but agree on how much complexity everyone wants before choosing.
4. Compare complexity, progression and cost
Ask whether the group wants to learn a large skill and equipment system, play in shorter sessions, or follow a longer gear and progression loop. The cited game descriptions do not compare session length or total time commitment, so use your group’s preferences rather than assuming one game fits a particular schedule.

5. Use a shortlist, not a universal winner
There is not enough comparable evidence here to rank the action RPG genre or declare a single best choice for every group. Use Monster Hunter Wilds as a candidate if the group likes cooperative hunts and the exact editions meet its platform needs. Consider Path of Exile 2 if build experimentation and the announced co-op options fit the group, after confirming current availability and feature status. Diablo IV may be another candidate to investigate: a February 17, 2026 TechRadar roundup describes crossplay across PlayStation, Xbox and PC and a loot-and-progression loop, but verify current platform details through Blizzard before relying on that secondary-source summary.
Before committing, have every player check the same current platform information. Confirm cross-play, co-op format, party size, campaign coverage, progression behavior, accounts, subscriptions and the edition each person must own. That final check is more useful than choosing from a genre-wide ranking that cannot account for your group’s systems and preferences.
