For Kobo, the official Kobo Remote pairs over Bluetooth with eight specific models. For Kindle, do not assume a generic Bluetooth clicker will work: Amazon’s cited Bluetooth instructions cover audio devices, while a separate kind of page turner uses a screen sensor clip controlled by an RF remote. Check the exact eReader model and remote type before buying or pairing.
The key distinction is between a remote that communicates with an eReader over Bluetooth and one that physically triggers a screen sensor. Those are different setups, and the available compatibility evidence is not equally complete for both. This guide explains the official Kobo pairing flow, what to check if it fails, and how to evaluate a Kindle-oriented clip-on option without assuming it fits every device.

Check compatibility before you buy
Kindle and Kobo do not share a single, universal remote-pairing method. The clearest compatibility information is for Kobo’s official remote. Kobo lists these supported eReaders:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Kobo Clara 2E
- Kobo Clara BW
- Kobo Clara Colour
- Kobo Libra 2
- Kobo Libra Colour
- Kobo Sage
- Kobo Elipsa
- Kobo Elipsa 2E
See Kobo’s compatibility and setup guidance and confirm your exact model name. Do not rely only on a family name such as Clara or Libra: the published list names particular models, and a device having Bluetooth does not by itself establish that it supports a page-turning remote.

Kobo says third-party Bluetooth page turners are not officially supported and that compatibility and function can vary. That warning matters even if a third-party listing says it is Bluetooth or describes itself as suitable for eReaders. Bluetooth is a connection technology, not proof that a particular eReader will recognize a remote’s buttons as page-turn commands.
For Kindle, Amazon’s surfaced help page, Pair a Bluetooth Audio Device with Your Kindle E-Reader, explains audio-device pairing; it does not establish that a generic Bluetooth page-turner remote works with Kindle’s reading interface. Keep that distinction in mind when comparing search results or product descriptions. The cited guidance is not evidence of a Kindle model’s page-turner support.
Pair the official Kobo Remote
For one of the listed Kobo models, the official pairing sequence is straightforward: put the remote into pairing mode, enable Bluetooth on the eReader, select the remote, and confirm that it connects. If you are activating a new remote, remove its battery pull tab before beginning.
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11- Prepare the remote. If it is new, remove the battery pull tab. The remote uses a replaceable AAA battery. If it has been used before and will not respond, check the battery before assuming that the eReader is the problem.
- Enter pairing mode. Press and hold the remote’s pairing button for three seconds. The indicator flashes blue rapidly when the remote is ready to pair. The light gives you a visible cue that the remote is in pairing mode; it is not the same as confirmation that pairing has finished.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the Kobo. From the eReader’s home screen, open More, then Settings, then Bluetooth Connection. Turn Bluetooth on. Menu wording can vary by software version, so look for the Bluetooth connection setting if the labels on your screen are not identical.
- Select the remote. Choose Kobo Remote from the available devices and confirm pairing. Kobo’s guide says the eReader will show the remote as connected. The remote’s light stops blinking after pairing is complete.
- Test both buttons. The larger button turns forward through eBook pages; the smaller button turns backward. Testing both directions confirms that the remote is connected and helps you learn which button does what before you settle into reading.
Kobo’s setup instructions and Bluetooth troubleshooting guidance describe this process. The steps apply to the official Kobo Remote and the models Kobo names; they should not be treated as a general recipe for pairing every Bluetooth clicker with any eReader.
Understand the Kobo Remote’s specifications
Kobo lists Bluetooth 5.0 and a wireless range of up to 20 meters for its remote. The range is a manufacturer specification, not a guarantee that every reading setup will work at that distance. Kobo’s product page describes battery life as months of daily reading, depending on use; it is not a fixed duration or an independently measured result. These details can help when comparing products, but they do not replace checking model compatibility.

Kobo also describes the remote as clip-free, so it does not attach a sensor to the screen. That is a meaningful difference from a clip-on RF product: the official Kobo Remote connects wirelessly to a supported Kobo, while the RF category described in the manual uses a physical sensor clip placed on the screen. The two approaches involve different connection methods and different questions about screen placement.
All of these figures and design claims come from Kobo’s product page. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. The research reviewed for this article did not find independent comparative tests of page-turn latency, connection reliability, battery life, or long-term performance, so there is no evidence here to rank remotes by those measures.

If pairing fails
Start with the basic conditions before repeating the whole process. The remote must be in pairing mode, Bluetooth must be on in the Kobo’s Bluetooth Connection settings, and the remote needs power. Then follow the symptom that best fits what you see:
- The remote does not appear: Check that Bluetooth is on in the Kobo’s Bluetooth Connection settings. Put the remote back into pairing mode by holding its pairing button for three seconds, then search again. Confirm that the indicator is flashing blue rapidly, which is the documented pairing-mode signal.
- The remote appears but will not connect: If it was paired previously, Kobo advises removing or forgetting the old remote entry on the eReader and pairing again. After removing the old entry, repeat the pairing sequence rather than assuming the old connection will resume automatically.
- The indicator does not behave as expected: Check that the battery pull tab has been removed. If the remote has been used, check or replace its AAA battery. A remote that is not powered or not entering pairing mode cannot complete the Bluetooth sequence.
- Pairing succeeds but pages do not turn: Check the remote’s button direction and confirm that the eReader model is on Kobo’s supported list. Third-party Bluetooth remotes are not officially supported, so successful discovery alone does not guarantee reliable page-turning behavior. If you are using a third-party device, Kobo’s support statement does not promise that its controls will work.
- You cannot find a menu label: Menu wording can vary by software version. Look for Bluetooth Connection under the Kobo’s settings rather than assuming that a slightly different label means the remote is incompatible. If the exact model is not on Kobo’s supported list, however, the menu alone does not establish support.
For the official remote, the most useful troubleshooting loop is therefore: check the model, verify Bluetooth is on, re-enter pairing mode, remove an old pairing if there is one, and check the AAA battery. The available guidance does not provide a separate fix for every possible connection failure, so avoid treating an unverified third-party remote as if it followed the same official support procedure.
What Kindle users need to know
Do not treat Kindle’s Bluetooth audio setup as instructions for a page-turner. The cited Amazon help article is specifically about Bluetooth audio devices and does not verify that a generic Bluetooth clicker can control page turns. A product’s Bluetooth label and Amazon’s audio-pairing instructions do not combine into proof that the clicker will work as a remote for reading.

A different product category uses a physical screen-sensor clip attached to the eReader and a separate RF remote. One product manual describes attaching the sensor clip and pressing the RF remote; that is not standard Bluetooth pairing. In this design, the clip is part of the operation, so check where it must sit and whether that placement covers any content you need to see. The cited manual excerpt does not provide a complete, dependable list of compatible Kindle models. Check the particular product’s compatibility information for your exact Kindle generation and screen before ordering.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Another manual excerpt describes a page turner that does not use Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and refers to older Kindle support. It illustrates that non-Bluetooth products exist, but it likewise does not establish a current, complete compatibility matrix. Do not infer that a remote will work with a particular Kindle simply because it is marketed for Kindle, because it works with another model, or because it uses a wireless connection.
That limitation is important when a listing uses broad language such as “for Kindle.” The source material reviewed here does not provide a comprehensive Kindle model-by-model compatibility table for either the RF clip product or the non-Bluetooth product. Before purchase, look for the exact model and screen arrangement in the specific product’s current compatibility details. If the listing does not clearly address your device, ask the seller or retailer to confirm fit and check the return terms before ordering.
Compare the connection methods
| What to check | Official Kobo Remote | Clip-on RF page turner |
|---|---|---|
| Connection method | Bluetooth; Kobo publishes a supported model list. | Screen sensor clip controlled by a separate RF remote; the manual excerpt does not establish a complete model list. |
| Screen attachment | Kobo describes a clip-free design. | Requires a sensor clip attached to the screen; check placement and whether it covers any content. |
| Power | One replaceable AAA battery. | Check the exact product manual; requirements are not stated in the cited excerpt. |
| Compatibility evidence | Clara 2E, Clara BW, Clara Colour, Libra 2, Libra Colour, Sage, Elipsa, and Elipsa 2E. | No complete, dependable Kindle model matrix is established by the cited manual excerpt. |
Use the comparison as a way to decide what to verify, not as a claim that the two options are interchangeable. The official Kobo Remote has a published list of compatible Kobo eReaders and a documented Bluetooth pairing flow. The RF manual establishes a clip-and-remote mechanism, but not broad compatibility. A screen clip can be a practical consideration in its own right: examine the product’s placement instructions and whether the attachment would sit over text or other information you need visible.
Choose carefully when model support is unclear
Before ordering a third-party or RF remote, match the listing to the exact eReader generation, not just the Kindle or Kobo family name. Confirm whether it uses Bluetooth, an RF transmitter and sensor clip, or another mechanism; check how the clip sits on your screen; and read the retailer’s return terms. These checks matter because manufacturer support and compatibility details differ across remote types. They are practical buying checks, not manufacturer specifications.

For a Kobo, use the official supported-model list as the starting point. If you have one of those eight models and want the documented Bluetooth route, the official Kobo Remote is the option with clearly stated compatibility and setup instructions in the sources reviewed here. For another Bluetooth page turner, Kobo’s statement is explicit: third-party Bluetooth page turners are not officially supported, and compatibility and function can vary.
For a Kindle, separate the question “Can this Kindle pair with Bluetooth audio?” from “Will this remote turn pages?” The cited Amazon help page answers the first kind of question, not the second. If considering a screen-sensor RF device, verify the exact Kindle model and screen fit with the product’s own documentation. If the model is not named or the fit is unclear, the evidence available here cannot confirm that it will work.
The sources surfaced for this topic do not provide current availability for every third-party product, a complete Kindle compatibility matrix, or independent comparisons of latency, reliability, battery life, or durability. There is not enough evidence to name a tested winner on those measures. Compare documented fit and operating method, then use the retailer’s stated return policy to reduce the risk of buying an unsupported accessory.
