For most Samsung Bluetooth Smart Remotes and SolarCell Remotes, turn on the TV, point the remote at it, then hold Return and Play/Pause together for at least three seconds. Wait for the on-screen pairing confirmation. Classic infrared remotes can use a different method, so identify the remote type before pairing.
Pair a Samsung Smart or SolarCell Remote
- Turn on the TV. If the remote cannot power it on, use the TV’s physical power control if you can reach it.
- Aim the remote at the front of the TV.
- Hold Return and Play/Pause together for at least three seconds.
- Wait for the confirmation message. Samsung says an on-screen message appears when the remote connects.
- Test Home or volume. If the TV does not confirm the connection, check the remote’s power and aim, then try again.
Some Smart Remotes connect automatically when the TV is on and you press a button. If that does not happen, use the manual button combination above.

Check whether the replacement is infrared
Samsung’s pairing instructions differ by remote type. For a classic infrared remote covered by Samsung’s Germany support guidance, point it at the TV and press the small, round pairing button inside the battery compartment. Do not use the Smart Remote combination as a universal procedure for every Samsung remote.

Troubleshoot a remote that will not pair
- Check its power. For a battery-powered remote, replace or reseat the batteries. Supported SolarCell Remotes can be charged through USB-C and have a solar panel.
- Retry with the remote aimed at the TV. Look for an on-screen connection message after the button hold.
- Try the applicable reset procedure. Samsung’s 2025 guide says to reboot a supported Smart Remote by holding Return and Enter for at least ten seconds. For Smart Remotes that use batteries, it also suggests removing and reinserting them.
- Reset and pair, if the guide for your model supports it. Samsung’s instructions describe holding Return and Voice for at least three seconds, then pairing with Return and Play/Pause for at least three seconds.
These reset combinations are model-specific. Samsung cautions that remote images, buttons and functions can vary by TV model and country; use the instructions for your particular TV and remote.

Check compatibility before buying another remote
Samsung does not establish one replacement remote that works with every Samsung TV. Compatibility and available buttons can vary by model and country, and Smart Bluetooth/SolarCell remotes differ from classic infrared remotes.
Before buying, check the TV’s full model number against the replacement remote’s compatibility listing or the TV manual. Confirm that the remote uses the right technology and supports the functions you need, such as voice control. The cited Samsung guidance does not identify a universal replacement part number.
