To clean up duplicate content on Pinterest, first decide whether the duplicates are individual Pins or overlapping boards. Move or organize Pins you want to keep; merge boards only when you are comfortable with the effects on followers and privacy; delete only Pins you have confirmed you no longer need.
Choose the right cleanup action

Identify what is duplicated and decide what to keep
Check whether the same or similar content appears as separate Pins, or whether two entire boards cover the same subject. Before changing anything, choose the board or Pin you want to retain. If you are unsure whether you may want a Pin later, move it or place it in a section rather than deleting it.

Open the Pin’s edit controls, choose the option to move it, and select the destination board. Pinterest’s instructions cover moving Pins on the web and in the app; the exact menu wording or placement may vary by surface and account. Follow the controls shown in your account. - Open the board that contains the Pins.
- Choose Organize.
- Select the Pins to move.
- Choose Move to and select the destination board.
Review the selected Pins before confirming so that only the intended content changes boards.

Keep a board but make its contents easier to manage
If the content belongs together but the board is cluttered, create sections to group Pins by subtopic, or reorder Pins and sections to make the board easier to scan. These options retain the Pins instead of removing them. Pinterest explains how to create a board section and how to reorder Pins and sections.
Merge overlapping boards only after checking the consequences
When two boards genuinely overlap and you want their Pins together, Pinterest lets you merge one board into another. Choose the destination carefully: its privacy setting applies to the Pins after the merge, and followers of the merged board do not transfer to the destination.

A merge is not easily undone. Pinterest Help, in “Merge boards and sections,” says: “To undo a merge, you’ll need to create a new board or section and move the Pins there, one by one.” Use Pinterest’s merge instructions and check the destination before confirming.

Delete an individual Pin
Open the Pin’s edit controls and choose the delete option. Confirm only if you are certain: Pinterest Help states, “Once a Pin is deleted, it cannot be recovered.” For Pins you might still want, move them or organize them into a section instead. Remove an entire board
If you want a board out of view but may use it again, archive it rather than deleting it. An archived board cannot receive new Pins until you unarchive it, and Pinterest provides an unarchive option.
Deleting a board affects every Pin on it. Pinterest Help states: “When you delete a board, all the Pins on the board are deleted, too.” Pinterest documents a seven-day restoration period for deleted boards; board restoration is available on desktop or Android. Check Pinterest’s archive-or-delete guidance before choosing, since deleting a board is not the same as deleting a single Pin.

A safe order for cleaning up
- Identify duplicate Pins or overlapping boards.
- Decide which content and destination board you want to keep.
- Move wanted Pins or group them into sections first.
- If merging boards, check the destination’s privacy setting and consider that followers will not transfer.
- Delete only Pins you have reviewed and are sure you do not need.
- Archive a whole board instead of deleting it if you may want it later.
