1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no single best PC settings combination for Gears of War: E-Day: the right balance depends on your graphics card, processor, display resolution, and whether you value image quality, steady frame pacing, or lower input latency most. Start with a preset that suits your hardware, test an upscaler your GPU supports, and change one setting group at a time while comparing the same scene.
Start with a repeatable baseline
Before changing settings, note your resolution, graphics card, processor, memory, starting preset, and the performance goal you care about. A stable frame rate and consistent frame pacing may matter more than a high average FPS; competitive play may put a premium on responsiveness, while a single-player experience may justify higher image quality.

Use the same in-game scene for each comparison and change one class of settings at a time. If you change the preset, resolution, and upscaler together, it becomes difficult to tell which adjustment helped. Record both how the game looks and how it feels; a single reviewer’s result is not a guarantee for another PC.
Choose a preset, then test upscaling
The launch-week PC comparison by Tom’s Hardware tested Low, Medium, High, Ultra, and Ludicrous across 43 graphics cards. Treat those presets as starting points, not hardware requirements or universal recommendations.

The game supports NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, Intel XeSS, and Unreal Engine TSR, according to Xbox Wire’s July 14, 2026 PC feature announcement. Start at your display’s native output resolution, then test the upscaler available for your hardware. Compare fine detail, motion, and image stability in the same scene. The announcement does not identify one best upscaler or mode for every GPU.
If performance is weak, Tom’s Hardware’s launch-week visual comparisons suggest trying Medium before dropping to Low: it found a substantial visual loss at Low, while the differences among Medium, High, and Ultra were more subtle in the scenes it tested. That is the outlet’s assessment, not an official setting recommendation, and your own image-quality preferences may differ.
Lower demanding settings in measured steps
If you still need more performance, reduce demanding graphics options incrementally and re-test rather than immediately sacrificing several settings. Hardware ray tracing is among the announced features. Tom’s Hardware reported that RTX Mega Geometry can add foliage and shadow detail, but observed roughly a 10% performance cost on the compatible cards it tested. That figure is a test observation, not a universal cost; compare the option on and off on your system.

The Coalition’s July 14, 2026 announcement describes the game as built on Unreal Engine 5 and DirectX 12, with hardware ray tracing and NVIDIA RTX features including DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, and NVIDIA Reflex. It also names Advanced Shader Delivery. Those feature announcements do not guarantee that every feature is available on every graphics card or that a particular frame rate is achievable.
Check whether the CPU or GPU is limiting performance
Resolution alone cannot identify a bottleneck, but it can change which component is under pressure. In its test setup, Tom’s Hardware observed significant CPU utilization and CPU scaling at 1080p with a high-end GPU, while its 4K testing was GPU-bound. Check your own GPU utilization and frame-time behavior before deciding whether to lower CPU-related or graphics settings.
Leave Low Core Mode off initially. Although the in-game description reportedly positions it for low-core-count devices and handhelds, Tom’s Hardware found lower performance across its 25-CPU test pool, with no improvement in 1% lows. This is an independent test result, not proof that the setting behaves identically on every device. If your hardware seems to be a relevant edge case, compare it both ways in the same scene.

Check drivers, storage, and system compatibility
The game’s beta FAQ recommended current graphics drivers and an SSD, and warned that HDDs were unsupported and could lead to loading, asset, stutter, or crash problems. These are beta-era recommendations, not confirmed final-launch requirements; consult current support guidance before treating them as definitive. An SSD can help with loading and asset streaming, but it does not by itself remove a CPU or GPU performance limit.

A brief hitch during initial shader compilation is different from persistently poor frame times during play. Microsoft says Advanced Shader Delivery supplies precompiled shaders and reduces first-launch shader compilation time by approximately 95% on supported devices. That is Microsoft’s published claim, not a guaranteed result on every PC. Its DirectX Developer Blog guidance describes support as dependent on hardware, storefront, operating system, and driver; the requirements list Windows 11 version 24H2 or later and supported vendor-specific GPU and driver configurations. Microsoft says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading to experience E-Day’s ASD feature.

The beta FAQ also mentioned Intel Arc recompiling shaders at each launch at the time it was written. That note may no longer reflect current software, so check current support information if the problem persists. For ongoing stutter, compare frame times and system utilization rather than assuming shader compilation is the cause.
Use PC specifications carefully
Xbox Wire published its final launch PC specifications announcement on September 17, 2026, and an editor’s note says the specifications image was updated on September 28. Because the announcement’s tier values are presented in an image, confirm the current official listing directly before using any CPU, GPU, memory, operating-system, resolution, or preset value as a requirement.
Likewise, performance numbers from reviews apply to the systems and settings those reviewers tested. For example, Tom’s Guide reported about 50 FPS at 4K High without the described DLSS boost on one rig with a Ryzen 7 9700X, RTX 5070, and 32 GB RAM. On that same hands-on setup, it reported about 115 FPS with DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Frame Generation and Dynamic Upscaling Quality plus ray-traced settings at Ultra. This is one reviewer’s experience, not a reproducible benchmark across PCs or a promised result.
