Choose and prepare the share image
Make a purpose-built image for the page rather than relying on Facebook to select a thumbnail from the page. Wix Help Center recommends a 1200 × 630-pixel canvas, an aspect ratio of 1.91:1, and a file size of 8 MB or less. Wix also says images smaller than 600 × 315 pixels may appear as a small preview image. These are Wix-published recommendations attributed to Facebook Sharing Best Practices; a current Meta documentation page independently confirming the figures was not available among the cited sources.
Compose the image for a wide preview and keep essential text and branding away from the edges, where a display context could crop them. The cited guidance does not establish a specific safe-zone measurement or promise identical display in every placement or device.
Add Open Graph metadata to the page
Open Graph metadata belongs in the page’s <head>. The Open Graph Protocol defines og:image as the URL of an image representing the page’s object, and lists og:title, og:type, og:image, and og:url as basic required properties.

</head>Replace the example values with the actual title, page URL, and URL of the image you want to appear. The image URL in og:image should identify the intended share image, not an unrelated site logo or thumbnail. The Open Graph Protocol describes the metadata; it does not require a particular CMS, plugin, or editing workflow.
Choose how to publish the tags
Edit the page template or source
If you control the site code, set the tags in the page template or generate them per page. This gives direct control over each page’s image and the other Open Graph values.

Use your CMS or SEO plugin
If you manage the site through a content system, its social-image controls may provide a convenient way to choose the share image. After saving, inspect the published page source to confirm it contains the intended og:image, along with the basic Open Graph properties. No particular plugin or CMS is established as necessary.
Refresh and inspect the Facebook preview
- Publish the page with the intended Open Graph values.
- Enter the page URL in Facebook Sharing Debugger to inspect or refresh Facebook’s stored page information. Wix recommends this after changing
og:image; the Open Graph Protocol identifies Facebook Object Debugger as Facebook’s official parser and debugger. - Check the resulting preview and verify that the page’s metadata points to the image you intended.
Troubleshoot an incorrect or missing image
- Facebook shows the wrong image: inspect the page’s published Open Graph tags and correct
og:imageif it points to a logo or another thumbnail. Then use Facebook Sharing Debugger to refresh or inspect the page information. - The preview image appears small: check its dimensions against Wix’s recommendation. Wix says images below 600 × 315 pixels may appear as a small preview; its recommended target is 1200 × 630 pixels.
- The metadata looks right but the preview has not changed: enter the page URL in Facebook Sharing Debugger after publishing the change, as Wix recommends.
- You are unsure what your CMS published: inspect the page source rather than relying only on the editor’s selected image. The published HTML should contain the intended Open Graph values.
The cited sources do not establish a definitive troubleshooting sequence beyond checking the metadata, using the debugger, and following the stated image-size recommendations. They also do not establish detailed crawler-access or URL-format rules as Facebook requirements, or specify a required image file format.
