Leave Commentary Volume above zero. The game provides separate volume controls, so changing the music channel does not require muting your console or television.
The fastest way to silence the soundtrack
These steps remove the game’s general soundtrack while preserving the announcers:

- Return to the game’s main menu.
- Select the gear-shaped Settings icon.
- Open Audio Settings or Audio/Video Settings. The wording and grouping can vary slightly by platform.
- Locate Soundtrack Music Volume.
- Move the slider completely down to 0, or select Off if the menu presents a switch instead of a numeric slider.
- Check Commentary Volume and keep it above zero at the level you prefer.
- Save the change if the menu offers a save command, or back out of the settings screen and test the result in a game and in the menus.
PlayStation’s official product information describes the game’s system as follows: “You can turn down and mute individual audio volumes.” That is why you can silence the soundtrack without disabling commentary, crowd noise, effects or umpire audio.
Which setting controls which sound?
MLB The Show 26 separates important audio categories rather than treating every sound as one master channel. The control you need for a quiet music bed is Soundtrack Music Volume; the control for the announcers is Commentary Volume.

- Soundtrack Music Volume: Controls the game’s soundtrack channel. Set it to zero or Off for complete soundtrack silence.
- Commentary Volume: Controls play-by-play and analyst audio. Leave it above zero to retain the announcers.
- Crowd volume: Controls stadium crowd ambience independently from the soundtrack and commentary.
- Sound effects: Controls action and interface effects separately from music.
- Umpire audio: Remains on its own level when you change only the music channel.
- PA Music Volume or related presentation controls: May govern music played as part of stadium presentation rather than the general soundtrack.
The exact list and placement of sliders can differ between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, and a future patch can change labels or grouping. Look for the music-specific channel rather than relying on the position of a slider.
How to keep commentary clear after muting music
After setting Soundtrack Music Volume to zero, confirm that Commentary Volume still has a positive value. If the announcers sound unusually quiet, raise Commentary Volume independently instead of raising the master volume and accidentally bringing music back.
You can also adjust crowd and effects levels to make commentary easier to hear. Lowering crowd noise or effects is optional; those controls do not need to be changed to mute the soundtrack. The important separation is between the music channel and the commentary channel.

Because the change occurs inside the game, your television or receiver can remain at its normal volume. Muting the console, television or an entire audio output would also remove the commentary you are trying to preserve.
When stadium music is still audible
If you still hear music after setting Soundtrack Music Volume to zero, check for a second music-related control. Open the audio or presentation controls and look for PA Music Volume or a similarly named stadium-music setting. Some music can be routed through presentation channels rather than the main soundtrack control.
Use the following troubleshooting order:
- Return to Settings and verify that Soundtrack Music Volume is actually at 0 or Off.
- Look for PA Music Volume or another presentation/music slider and lower it if stadium music is the remaining sound.
- Back out of the menu and test both a regular game and a menu screen, because different contexts can use different music channels.
- If commentary has also disappeared, check Commentary Volume separately and restore it to a level above zero.
Do not assume that hearing one musical cue means the soundtrack slider failed. The game can expose more than one music-related channel, so the remaining sound may be coming from PA or presentation audio.

Use the Jukebox when you want selected songs, not silence
The Jukebox is a different solution. It lets you turn individual songs off while leaving selected tracks enabled. That makes it useful when you want a custom rotation rather than a completely silent soundtrack.
Choose the volume slider for total silence
Setting Soundtrack Music Volume to zero is the quickest option and applies broadly to the soundtrack channel. It avoids editing songs one at a time and preserves commentary because only the music channel is being changed.
Choose Jukebox controls for a custom rotation
Open the Jukebox and disable the tracks you do not want to hear. Leave the songs you like enabled. This takes longer than moving one slider, but it allows music to continue selectively while commentary remains available.
Skip a single song for a one-off change
If you only dislike the currently playing track, use the game’s skip function instead of changing the global volume or editing the Jukebox. Skipping affects the current track; it is not a replacement for muting the soundtrack channel.
Compare the three music controls
| Method | Scope | Speed | Effect on commentary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Soundtrack Music Volume at 0 or Off | All music on that soundtrack channel | One slider or switch | Commentary is preserved when Commentary Volume remains above zero |
| Jukebox | Selected songs; enabled tracks can remain in rotation | Track-by-track selection | Commentary is preserved because song selection is separate from the commentary channel |
| Skip current track | Only the song currently playing | Immediate, one-track action | Commentary is preserved |
For a soundtrack-free game, use the volume control and check PA Music if necessary. For a personalized playlist, use the Jukebox. For an isolated unwanted song, skip the current track.

Platform and menu wording differences
The documented supported platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch. The underlying controls are the same in principle, but the menu may call the destination Audio Settings on one platform and Audio/Video Settings on another. Slider names can also be grouped differently after an update.

When labels differ, use this path as a guide: main menu → gear-shaped Settings → audio-related settings → the music-specific volume control. The words Soundtrack Music, Music Volume, PA Music and Commentary Volume are the useful identifiers. Do not change a master volume when your goal is to keep announcers audible.
If you play on more than one supported platform, repeat the configuration on each system. Audio preferences are applied through the game’s settings on the platform where you make the change; the exact persistence behavior can vary with the edition and current patch.
Test the result before starting a long game
A short test catches the most common mistake: muting one music channel while another remains active.
- From the main menu, confirm Soundtrack Music Volume is 0 or Off.
- Play a brief exhibition or other game mode in which you can hear commentary.
- Listen during a menu transition, between innings and during stadium presentation moments.
- Confirm that the announcers remain audible.
- If any music remains, return to audio settings and check PA Music or related presentation controls.
Testing both menus and gameplay matters because soundtrack and stadium presentation cues may not play in the same places. A setting that appears successful on the main menu can still leave PA music active in a stadium.

All audio is silent
You may have lowered a master output or set Commentary Volume to zero instead of changing only Soundtrack Music Volume. Reopen the audio menu, restore Commentary Volume to a positive level, and adjust only the music-specific control.
Commentary works, but music continues
This usually indicates that the remaining music is coming from a second channel. Verify Soundtrack Music Volume first, then locate PA Music Volume or another presentation/music control and lower it.

Only one unwanted song keeps playing
Use the Jukebox to disable that song, or skip the current track. If you want every soundtrack song gone, the global music slider is faster than editing individual entries.

Music is gone from menus but returns in the stadium
Check stadium presentation controls, especially PA Music. Menu music and in-stadium cues can be exposed separately, so a zero value for the general soundtrack does not necessarily cover every presentation channel.
The setting appears not to stick
Back out of the settings screen using the game’s normal confirmation path, then test again. If the game presents an explicit save command, use it. Recheck the slider after changing modes or restarting the game, since menu wording and preference behavior can vary by platform and patch.
What remains audible after muting the soundtrack?
Changing only Soundtrack Music Volume should leave the other audio categories at their existing levels. You can therefore continue to hear:
- Play-by-play and analyst commentary, provided Commentary Volume is above zero.
- Crowd ambience, unless you lower Crowd Volume.
- Bat, ball, glove, field and interface effects, unless you lower the effects channel.
- Umpire audio, unless its own level is changed.
This separation is useful if you want a broadcast-style game with announcers and stadium atmosphere but no licensed soundtrack. It also lets you create a quieter mix for streaming, practice or late-night play without changing the console’s global audio output.
Quick checklist
- Open the main-menu gear-shaped Settings icon.
- Choose Audio Settings or Audio/Video Settings.
- Set Soundtrack Music Volume to 0 or Off.
- Keep Commentary Volume above zero.
- Check PA Music Volume if stadium music remains.
- Use Jukebox for a custom song rotation.
- Use skip for a single unwanted track.
- Test a menu and a game before relying on the new mix.
These controls let you mute MLB The Show 26’s soundtrack without sacrificing play-by-play. The key is to change the individual music channels, not the console or television volume and not the commentary control.
