These actions have different scopes: muting silences a participant, communication settings control who can contact you, and reporting sends information to Epic for review.
Mute a player in Fortnite voice chat

Select your profile icon and open Party chat or Game chat, depending on where the person is speaking.

Select the participant or their profile in that chat view, then use the available voice control to mute them. The same controls can be used to unmute or deafen.

Party chat connects people in a party across Fortnite and the Epic apps listed by Epic. Game chat connects players in the same island instance when the island creator supports it. If you cannot find the person in one channel, check which channel you are using.

Limit who can contact you
To change communication access more broadly, open Profile > Settings > Communication. This changes your communications preference; it does not report or specifically mute a particular player.

- Friends, Team Members, and Connections
- Friends Only
- Off
Epic says chat defaults to Off for players whose accounts indicate they are under 18, and parental controls can restrict changes. Children under 10 are limited to Friends Only. The available options and ability to change them can therefore depend on age information and parental-control settings. See Epic’s voice-chat options guidance if your menu differs.

Report a player for behavior in a match

Open the game menu: press Esc on PC or Mac, Options on PlayStation, Menu on Xbox, or + on Nintendo Switch.

Choose the three-line menu, then select Report and Submit a report.

Choose A player or sidekick, select the player’s name, choose a reason, and accept to submit.
You can also report from a recently played player’s in-game profile or the voice-channel player list: open More options, select Report, choose a reason, and accept. Epic says a submission may help it determine whether action is warranted under its Terms of Service and Code of Conduct; submitting a report does not guarantee a particular outcome. Report text chat

Select your profile icon, open Chats, and select the conversation.

Open the conversation’s three-dot menu and choose Report chat, then submit. You can also use the Report button in the text-chat window or the three-dot menu beside an individual message.

Epic says text chat must be on and text reporting enabled for chat contents to be reviewed. If those controls are unavailable, check your chat and reporting settings.
Report voice chat
With Voice Reporting on, select your profile icon, open the three-dot control under Social, and choose Report chat. Voice Reporting keeps a rolling window of the most recent five minutes; older audio is deleted. According to Epic, the audio stays on your console or PC unless you submit a report, at which point the report and audio are sent to Epic moderators. Details are in Epic’s explanation of voice reporting.
How Voice Reporting availability works
Epic’s voice-reporting guidance says Voice Reporting is always on for players under 18. Adults can choose Always On or Off When Possible. The latter applies only to Party Channels, and turns reporting off there only when every party member has selected it. Game Channels always have Voice Reporting on.
