How to Multistream on OBS with Aitum

Aitum Multistream adds multi-destination output to OBS with per-destination settings. Here’s how to approach installation, configuration, and a safe pre-stream check.

Aitum Multistream is an OBS Studio plugin for sending a broadcast to multiple streaming destinations. To use it, install the release that matches your operating system and OBS version, configure each destination with its own output settings, then check the receiving platforms’ requirements and your computer and internet capacity before going live. Aitum’s published material confirms this capability, but does not establish a universal click-by-click setup path or one bitrate that works for every destination.

What Aitum Multistream does

Aitum describes Multistream as a plugin that lets one OBS Studio instance send output to several destinations, with a separate settings block for each target. That allows you to configure destinations independently—for example, to use different bitrates where each platform’s requirements call for them. These are Aitum’s product descriptions, not independent performance-test results. See Aitum’s product page and its official GitHub repository.

The plugin works from your own computer rather than a cloud relay, according to Aitum. That means your machine and connection are part of the broadcast path while you stream.

Install the release that matches your setup

  1. Check your setup. Note your operating system and OBS Studio version before downloading anything.
  2. Open the official release page. Review the latest release’s files and compatibility notes at Aitum Multistream releases. The release listing can change; the page listed version 1.0.8 as latest in the material available for this article, which should not be treated as a guarantee that it remains latest.
  3. Choose the matching asset. Use only a file intended for your operating system and compatible with your OBS installation. If the release page does not make compatibility clear, consult Aitum’s current documentation or release notes before installing.
  4. Follow the installer or build instructions supplied for that release. The repository README provides build information, but the available official material does not establish a complete, current, OS-specific installer walkthrough. Do not rely on old instructions or guess at file placement.
  5. Restart OBS if the installation instructions require it, then check for the plugin. If Multistream does not appear, verify that the downloaded asset matches your OS and OBS version and review the release’s troubleshooting guidance before trying another build.

Configure destinations and their output settings

Once the plugin is available in OBS, add the destinations you intend to stream to and configure each destination’s settings separately. Aitum says each target can have its own settings block, including bitrate. The exact labels and clicks may vary with the current plugin and OBS versions; use the controls and documentation for the release you installed rather than assuming a fixed menu path.

Check each platform’s requirements

Look up the current live-streaming ingest and encoding requirements on every destination platform’s own support pages. Choose settings that are supported by that destination and appropriate for the resolution and frame rate you plan to send. There is no single bitrate or resolution established here as correct for all platforms, and platform requirements can change.

Check local capacity

Because Aitum runs on your machine, account for the encoding work and outgoing network traffic of the outputs you configure. The sources do not establish a safe number of destinations, a bandwidth formula, or a minimum hardware specification. If your computer or connection is already near its limits, adding outputs may make the setup less reliable; reduce the workload or reassess the configuration rather than relying on an unsupported numeric rule.

Verify the setup before a full broadcast

  1. Review the destination list and confirm each target has the intended settings.
  2. Start with a private, unlisted, or otherwise low-risk check where the platform’s options allow it.
  3. Confirm that every destination receives the stream and that its video and audio are as intended.
  4. If a destination fails, check its platform credentials and current ingest requirements, then check the local OBS/plugin configuration and available computer and network capacity.
  5. Only move to a public broadcast after the outputs you need have been confirmed.

Horizontal and vertical output is a separate use case

If your goal is to send a horizontal stream and a separately formatted vertical stream, do not assume that ordinary Multistream configuration creates both formats. Twitch’s dual-format instructions discuss OBS with Aitum Vertical for horizontal and vertical output; that is adjacent to, not a prerequisite for, sending a stream to multiple destinations. Check Twitch’s dual-format streaming documentation for its current requirements.
