To run a poll on YouTube Live, open the live chat during a stream or Premiere, choose Create a poll, enter two to four options, and publish it. Close it with End poll in the chat banner; YouTube then shows the results in chat. The exact controls differ between a computer and the YouTube Android app.
Run a poll from a computer
- Open the YouTube watch page for your live stream or Premiere and open its live chat.
- At the bottom of the chat, click Create a poll.
- Enter the poll question and two to four answer options, then create the poll.
- When you are ready to close it, click End poll in the banner at the top of chat. YouTube says the results appear in chat. See YouTube’s computer instructions for using Live Chat during a stream or Premiere.
Run a poll in the YouTube Android app
YouTube’s Android instructions describe starting a live stream in the app; these are not simply the same steps as the computer workflow.
- Sign in to the YouTube app and start a live stream.
- At the bottom of the chat window, tap Add, then Create a poll.
- Create the poll with the question and answer options.
- To close it, tap End poll in the banner at the top of chat. YouTube’s Android instructions cover this path.
Poll rules to know before you publish
- Where polls work: Live polls are for live streams and Premieres.
- Options: A poll has two to four options.
- Duration: It can remain open for up to 24 hours.
- Votes are final: Viewers cannot change a vote after submitting it.
- No poll in chat replay: Polls do not appear in live chat replays. Invite viewers to vote while the event is live and before you end the poll.
- Mobile sticker: YouTube also documents a mobile live poll sticker that the host can move and resize on screen.

If you or viewers cannot find the poll or chat
First check whether Live Chat is available for the event and whether viewers are watching on a YouTube watch page. Embedded players do not provide Live Chat. A Made for Kids audience setting disables Live Chat, and some chats may have restricted features, so availability can vary. These are useful first checks, not an exhaustive list of every reason a poll control might be missing. See YouTube’s pages on live stream chat access and restrictions on live streaming.
