The simplest way to move data from Android to a new iPhone or iPad is Apple’s Move to iOS app, used during the Apple device’s initial setup. Choose From Android, pair the devices with the code on screen, select what to copy, and keep both devices powered and nearby until the iPhone or iPad’s progress bar finishes.
Before you start the transfer
- Turn on Wi-Fi on the Android device and plug both devices into power.
- Check that the items you want to move—including files on an external microSD card—will fit on the iPhone or iPad.
- Update Chrome on Android if you want to transfer Chrome bookmarks.
- If you have a compatible USB-C data cable, you can use it for a direct connection. Apple says a cable can make the transfer faster, but does not publish a speed comparison or name a universally compatible cable.
Apple’s instructions are in its Move from Android to iPhone or iPad guide.

Move data with the Move to iOS app
- Start on the new iPhone or iPad. During setup, choose to set up without another Apple device. On Transfer Your Apps & Data, tap From Android, then select Transfer with App.
- Open Move to iOS on Android. Follow the prompts, grant requested permissions, and enter the code shown on the Apple device. The Android device will connect to a temporary Wi-Fi network created by the iPhone or iPad. If you are using a cable, Android may ask you to adjust USB settings.
- Choose what to transfer. Keep the devices close to each other and connected to power. Leave Move to iOS open on Android while the transfer runs.
- Wait for the Apple device’s progress bar. Android may indicate that its part is complete before the iPhone or iPad is done. Do not continue setup until the progress bar on the Apple device finishes.
- Finish setup and check your content. Complete iOS or iPadOS setup, then verify the important items. Download any matched apps from the App Store when offered. Number transfer and SIM or eSIM activation may also be part of the process; your carrier may need to help complete activation.
Apple does not give a typical transfer duration. The time depends on how much content is being moved.

Choose the right route for your situation
- You have not finished setting up the iPhone or iPad: Use Move to iOS and choose From Android during setup.
- You prefer a wired connection: Apple documents an optional direct USB-C connection and says it can be faster. Check that the cable supports data transfer and that its connectors work with both devices; Apple’s guide does not quantify the speed gain.
- Your Android device supports Apple’s no-app method: Apple documents a QR-code workflow during setup for compatible Android 17 or later devices. Ask the Android device manufacturer whether your model supports it, including eSIM capability where relevant.
- You already completed Apple device setup: To use the app-based transfer, erase the iPhone or iPad and start setup again. If you do not want to erase it, move content manually instead.
If the transfer stalls or content is missing
- Keep Move to iOS on screen on Android, and keep both devices powered and near each other.
- Turn off cellular data on Android. Disable settings or apps that can affect Wi-Fi, and forget known Wi-Fi networks before retrying.
- Restart both devices and try the transfer again.
- If the iPhone or iPad runs out of space or appears full after an incomplete transfer, Apple’s guidance is to erase it and retry after confirming that the Android content fits.
