One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchEffective pharmaceutical competitive intelligence is a verified, decision-linked process—not a news feed. Start with the decision you need to make, monitor regulatory, clinical, scientific, patent, company, safety, utilization and access signals, and retain the exact source, date, geography and confidence level for every material change. This guide shows how to build that workflow for US and international teams, compare assets without false precision, and use software or analyst services without surrendering source traceability.
Start with the decision, not a generic competitor list
A watchlist becomes useful only when it answers a defined portfolio, trial, launch, access or partnership question. Write the decision and its deadline before selecting sources.

Define the decision horizon
Examples include whether to advance an indication, alter a trial endpoint, prepare a launch, change positioning, pursue a license, respond to a safety signal or reassess reimbursement risk. A near-term launch decision needs different evidence and alert timing from a five-year discovery-portfolio review.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

- Therapeutic area and precise indication.
- Patient population, line of therapy and relevant biomarkers.
- Geographies and regulators that govern the decision.
- Competitor companies, assets, mechanisms and formulations.
- Decision horizon and the evidence threshold for action.
Document inclusions and exclusions. Otherwise, a platform can deliver a large volume of technically relevant news that does not change your decision.

Build a primary-source baseline for US products
Use official records to establish what is approved, listed, required or changed before adding commentary from vendors, analysts or news sources.
Search the FDA Orange Book
The FDA Orange Book identifies drug products approved on safety and effectiveness grounds and provides associated patent and exclusivity information. Its search supports active ingredient, proprietary name, applicant, application number, dosage form, route and patent number.
FDA states: “The Orange Book downloadable data files are updated monthly.” Record the retrieval date beside every extract. A monthly file update does not by itself settle a patent dispute, a legal challenge or the practical timing of generic entry.
Use the FDA database index as a map
The FDA Drug Approvals and Databases page links to Drugs@FDA, drug safety-related labeling changes, adverse-event monitoring, postmarketing requirements and commitments, the Orange Book and the Purple Book. Treat this page as an index, then open the individual database that contains the event you are investigating.
Check biologics in the Purple Book
FDA describes the Purple Book as its database of licensed biological products, including biosimilar and interchangeable products. For a biologic competitor, capture the product record, reference product relationship and relevant regulatory status rather than relying on a secondary summary.
Keep legal and database interpretations separate
The Orange Book includes a patent-listing dispute process. A listed patent is therefore a record fact, not an uncontested conclusion about enforceability or launch timing. Likewise, FDA’s openFDA Orange Book overview says therapeutic-equivalence evaluations are informational; they are not themselves official FDA actions that change products’ legal status under the FD&C Act. Have counsel or a qualified regulatory specialist review consequential interpretations.
Monitor the complete product and competitor lifecycle
Approvals are only one point in a product’s life. Build separate signal streams so that a trial change is not confused with a regulatory decision or a company aspiration.
Clinical development
- Trial starts, recruitment and enrollment status.
- Protocol amendments, endpoints, inclusion criteria and comparator changes.
- Interim or final readouts, discontinuations and timing statements.
- Registry updates cross-checked against sponsor disclosures.
A registered study demonstrates that a sponsor reported a plan. It does not establish that the study succeeded or that a product will reach market.

Regulatory activity
- Applications, approvals, complete-response outcomes and regulator decisions.
- Label revisions, boxed warnings and other safety-related actions.
- Postmarketing requirements and commitments.
- Relevant decisions from the regulator governing the geography in question.
Label language and safety actions should be captured as dated versions so analysts can see exactly what changed.
Patents and exclusivity
Track filings, listed patents, exclusivity records, disputes and expiry-related timing signals. Store the underlying record and identify whether your note is a factual listing, a company statement or a legal inference. Do not turn a database date into a guaranteed launch date.
Scientific and conference activity
Follow peer-reviewed publications, congress abstracts, presentations and relevant investigator discussion. Mark preliminary conference data as preliminary, preserve the abstract or slide version, and record whether endpoints are prespecified, exploratory or still subject to peer review.

Company and transaction activity
Monitor public filings, earnings calls, partnerships, licensing, acquisitions, hiring and stated portfolio changes. Attribute claims to the company. A management statement about a program’s potential is not equivalent to an independent efficacy result.
Safety and utilization
Use postmarketing surveillance and, where properly licensed and methodologically understood, healthcare and sales data. FDA’s CDER Office of Surveillance and Epidemiology describes surveillance throughout the medicine lifecycle, evaluation of adverse events and medication errors, and analysis of pharmaceutical sales and healthcare data to characterize US utilization and treatment patterns.
Coverage, coding and lag can make utilization data unsuitable as a direct market-share measure. Confirm the population, channel, time period and denominator before using it in a commercial decision.
Market access
Track geography-specific reimbursement decisions, health-technology assessments, payer policies, pricing and restrictions. Distinguish a public policy record from a vendor or analyst interpretation, and never transfer an access conclusion from one country to another without checking the local authority.

- [Easy Disassemble] Making incidental repairs quick and easy! Very nice, flexible cable
- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
- Claim: the precise statement being assessed.
- Competitor, asset and indication: use consistent identifiers and note formulations separately.
- Geography: country or region to which the record applies.
- Event date and observation date: distinguish when something happened from when your team saw it.
- Originating source and exact link: retain the source document or version whenever possible.
- Source type: regulator, registry, company, publication, conference, vendor or analyst.
- Status: confirmed, preliminary, reported, disputed or inferred.
- Decision relevance: the portfolio, trial, launch, access or partnership question affected.
- Correction trail: what changed when a later record revised or contradicted the signal.
Separate the source’s explicit wording from your analyst’s inference. A short “source says” field beside a “team interpretation” field prevents an inference from becoming an untraceable fact after the note is circulated.
Verify signals before turning them into intelligence
Use a source hierarchy
- Check a primary regulator, trial registry, filing, patent record, peer-reviewed paper or official company disclosure.
- Confirm that the event is dated and applies to the correct jurisdiction, indication, asset and formulation.
- Determine whether the change is final, proposed, preliminary or disputed.
- Compare the record with the previous version to identify the actual delta.
- Record remaining uncertainty and the condition that would change your assessment.
Avoid common analytical leaps
- Do not infer clinical success from a trial registration or recruitment update.
- Do not infer causation from a spontaneous adverse-event report.
- Do not treat a patent listing as proof of enforceability or a certain launch date.
- Do not calculate commercial share from a partial utilization dataset without understanding its coverage and denominator.
- Do not convert a company forecast into an independently verified probability.
Write the decision implication
For each verified signal, answer four questions: What changed? Why does it matter to this decision? What remains uncertain? When will the team revisit it? This format is more actionable than counting mentions or forwarding links.
Choose an alert and review cadence
| Cadence | Use it for | Required owner |
|---|---|---|
| Event-driven | Approvals, major readouts, trial failures, safety actions, transactions and access decisions | Named verifier who can assess the event quickly |
| Recurring digest | Routine registry, publication, patent, filing and company updates | Analyst who removes duplicates and records source links |
| Periodic synthesis | Portfolio choices, scenarios, launch planning and partnership reviews | Cross-functional lead who connects evidence to a decision |
Assign separate owners for source maintenance, signal verification and distribution. Measure whether an update arrived in time and changed a decision, not merely how many alerts a system produced.
Compare competitor assets on consistent axes
When comparing two or more assets, use the same fields for each and label missing or incomparable evidence instead of forcing a rank.
| Axis | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Development stage and timing | What phase, milestone or filing is documented, and what is the event date? |
| Indication and population | Are the disease definition, line of therapy, biomarker and inclusion criteria comparable? |
| Endpoints and evidence maturity | Are results interim, final, exploratory, peer reviewed or only registry-described? |
| Regulatory status | What has the relevant regulator actually accepted, approved, required or changed? |
| Label and safety | What is in the current label, and what warnings or postmarketing obligations apply? |
| Patent and exclusivity | Which records exist, and which interpretations remain legal or disputed questions? |
| Geography | Does the evidence apply to the market where your decision will be made? |
| Access context | What reimbursement, pricing, health-technology-assessment or payer conditions are documented? |
| Decision relevance | Which portfolio, trial, launch or partnership choice could this difference change? |
Evaluate intelligence platforms and analyst services without losing traceability
Aggregation can reduce manual work, but a vendor’s feature list is not independent evidence of data quality. For example, Contify describes feeds, extracted facts, source-linked insights and monitoring across trial, regulatory, patent, partnership and M&A activity. DelveInsight describes trial monitoring, competitor reports, access analysis, reports and dashboards. These pages establish what the companies say they offer; they do not establish independent performance, current pricing or a referral relationship.
Assess any platform or analyst service against:
- Primary-source coverage and whether the original document is linked.
- Update cadence, backfill policy and time-zone handling.
- Alert rules, deduplication and analyst validation.
- Geographic and therapy-area coverage relevant to your portfolio.
- Export, API and integration options.
- Auditability, permissions, retention and correction handling.
- Total cost, including implementation and analyst time.
Run a controlled pilot using known historical events. Check whether the service found the event, linked the original record, dated it correctly and represented uncertainty. Do not let a dashboard replace your evidence log.
A practical 30-day implementation plan
- Days 1–3: write the decision brief. Name the decision, geography, therapy area, assets, competitors, horizon and evidence threshold.
- Days 4–7: create the source map. Assign a primary regulator, registry, patent source, publication source, company disclosure channel and access source to every signal category.
- Week 2: build the evidence schema. Add fields for claim, asset, indication, geography, event date, observation date, URL, source type, status, relevance and correction history.
- Week 3: configure alerts and a review queue. Route high-impact events for immediate verification; send routine changes to a digest; schedule a synthesis meeting.
- Week 4: test against known events. Sample past approvals, trial changes, label updates and transactions. Measure timeliness, source accuracy, duplicate rate and whether the resulting notes changed a decision.
After launch, review the watchlist quarterly. Remove sources that generate noise, add newly relevant assets and record why each change was made.

ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. It can accept a cookie or consent banner like a visitor and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.
For a source page, request a capture with the API. The parameter names used by other screenshot APIs also work, which can simplify migration. Full-page capture can load lazy images; additional options include CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, device presets or custom viewports, retina scale, PDF paper size and margins, custom CSS and JavaScript, click-before-capture, hide selectors, waits for a selector, delay or network idle, request and resource blocking, custom headers, cookies, user agent and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, a chosen cache TTL, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API and an OpenAPI specification.
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for the complete option list.

Troubleshoot common monitoring failures
The alert has no primary link
Cause: a secondary feed summarized an event without exposing the original record. Fix: hold the item at “reported,” search the regulator, registry, filing or publication source, and record the source URL before assigning decision impact.
Two records show different dates
Cause: publication, event and observation dates were conflated. Fix: store each date separately and state which one drives your decision timeline.
A patent record is being treated as a launch forecast
Cause: database fact and legal or commercial inference were merged. Fix: split the note into the listed record, the dispute status and the qualified interpretation reviewed by counsel.
A trial update is interpreted as efficacy
Cause: registry status or sponsor language was mistaken for a result. Fix: require a dated readout with population, endpoint and analysis context before changing the efficacy assessment.
Utilization data appears to contradict a launch report
Cause: different channels, coding rules, geographies or reporting lags. Fix: reconcile coverage, denominator, time period and product definition before comparing the numbers.
Best Value
Automated page capture is incomplete
Cause: lazy loading, a consent layer, a delayed script or a bot check. Fix: use a selector, delay or network-idle wait; capture after the consent step; preserve the verdict and billing headers; and flag the evidence as incomplete if the page still does not render.
FAQ
How should a team handle a source that later disappears?
Retain the downloaded document, PDF or image with its retrieval timestamp and stable evidence-log identifier. Keep the original URL and mark the source as unavailable rather than silently replacing it with a later summary.
Can a global team use the US FDA workflow unchanged?
No. The Orange Book, Purple Book and CDER sources describe US records. Teams operating elsewhere should map each signal category to the applicable national or regional regulator and preserve the jurisdiction in every record.
When is a paid aggregation service justified?
It is most defensible when the team needs broad, frequent coverage or analyst capacity that manual source review cannot provide. Require a pilot that tests primary-source links, update timing, geographic coverage and correction handling before committing.
What should a reviewer do when evidence remains preliminary?
Keep the status as preliminary, state the missing confirmation, identify the decision it could affect and set a revisit date. Preliminary evidence can inform scenario planning without being presented as a settled fact.
