Before starting a long stream, check the channel balance, listen to a recording, and inspect how the actual files loop.
Set up the cricket and frog beds separately
Use a distinct source for each recording so you can adjust and monitor the insects and frogs independently. In OBS, add the recordings as separate audio sources and use the Audio Mixer to watch their meters and adjust their faders. Choose recordings whose licenses permit your intended use, including continuous streaming and any archived playback.

Start each source at a sensible level, then listen to both together and adjust the faders. There is no established ideal cricket-to-frog ratio or fixed fader setting for this ambience. The right balance depends on the particular recordings and how they interact; judge it by listening and checking the meters, not by treating a preset as a standard.
Keep the mix clear and correctly routed
Watch for clipping
Keep the combined digital output below 0 dBFS. OBS identifies 0 dBFS as the maximum digital level; exceeding it in a recording or stream causes clipping distortion. The OBS mixer’s green, yellow, and red zones and peak indicator help you monitor levels. Red indicates the signal is close to clipping, not a target to aim for. The 0 dBFS ceiling is not a recommended ambience loudness.

Check left and right channels
Confirm that both recordings reach the intended channels. OBS explains that a mono source is heard in both left and right channels, while stereo channels are assigned independently. If a stereo source reaches only one side, the ambience can sound lopsided. Listen through the monitoring stage rather than relying only on the meters.
Listen to a recording before going live
Monitor the combined mix and record a representative session. Listen back before broadcasting; revise levels if one species overwhelms the other, the stereo image feels uneven, or the transitions are distracting. Also listen across the loop seam and over a longer stretch for obvious repetition. There is no established suitable loop length, and a catalog label such as “loopable” does not guarantee that a particular file will join seamlessly.

YouTube Audio Library
YouTube Studio’s Audio Library offers music and sound effects. YouTube says its Audio Library content is known to it as copyright-safe on YouTube; tracks marked Creative Commons require attribution in the video description. YouTube does not take responsibility for problems arising from other libraries. See YouTube’s Audio Library guidance.

Other libraries and recordings
For any other recording, read the license for the specific file. Check whether it permits continuous live transmission, archived or VOD playback, monetization, use in your territories, and any required attribution. Also look for restrictions on redistributing the sound by itself. “Royalty-free” by itself does not establish these permissions.

A catalog listing is a discovery aid, not a license. For example, Sound Pack Tree lists loopable stereo items titled “Night Crickets and Frogs” (0:47) and “Night Frog Orchestra” (1:17), with Colombia metadata. Those descriptions do not establish the current terms for a purchase or permission to use either file in a 24/7 commercial stream. Listen to the specific files and verify their current license before use.
Run a pre-stream check
- Load the two beds separately. Confirm you can control the cricket and frog levels independently.
- Listen to the combined mix. Set the balance by ear while watching OBS’s mixer meters.
- Check the output ceiling and routing. Keep the combined signal below 0 dBFS and confirm mono or stereo reaches both intended channels.
- Record and review. Listen to the recording for clipping, uneven balance, distracting transitions, and loop seams.
- Confirm rights. Ensure the license covers the live stream and any archive, monetization, territories, attribution, and standalone-use limits that apply.
A clean test recording is useful, but it does not prove that a stream will remain uninterrupted. Continuous broadcasting depends on the entire streaming setup, and no uptime guarantee follows from the audio workflow.
