Keep the ruler or tape measure on the display area—not the bezel or phone body—and record the result in inches to compare it with a manufacturer’s listed screen size.
How do I measure my phone screen size?
- Find the active display. Use the illuminated screen area as your boundary; do not start at the outer edge of the bezel, frame, or case.
- Measure corner to corner. Place a ruler or flexible tape measure at one corner of the display and measure in a straight line to the opposite corner. Either diagonal works.
- Record the measurement and unit. Smartphone display sizes are commonly stated in diagonal inches.
- Check the exact model’s specification. Compare your result with the manufacturer’s specification or user manual, keeping in mind that published figures may use a full-rectangle convention.
Samsung describes smartphone screen size as a diagonal measurement between opposite screen corners in its Australia phone-size guide. HONOR’s measurement guide likewise specifies the active display and excludes the bezel and frame.

Do I measure the screen diagonally, and do I include the bezel?
Yes: screen size means the display’s diagonal, not the phone’s width or its top-to-bottom body height. Measure from one active-screen corner to the opposite one and leave the bezel and phone body out.
A diagonal alone does not tell you a phone’s screen width or height. Two phones with the same diagonal can differ in aspect ratio, shape, bezel proportions, and usable area. To compare how they fit your hand or pocket, check exterior width and height as well as the diagonal; try the device in hand if possible.

- 【Wide Applications】 Compared to the ordinary rulers, this stainless steel caliper can measure not only length but also caliber and depth, allows you to measure circular and cylindrical objects, more functions and better performance will satisfy you. It has always been used by professionals and hobbyists alike, jewelers, hobbyists, woodworkers, machinists, DIY, automotive mechanics, and more.
Why might my measurement differ from the advertised size?
Manufacturers may state a nominal display size using a full-rectangle measurement, while rounded corners and camera openings reduce the area you can actually view. Samsung’s Australia guide gives a model-specific example: it lists the Galaxy S25 Ultra at 6.9 inches for the full rectangle and 6.8 inches when accounting for rounded corners. Those figures illustrate that phone’s convention; they are not a universal adjustment to apply to other models.
A small difference can also result from measuring by hand or choosing slightly different endpoints. For the listed figure, use the specification for the exact model rather than treating a physical measurement as the definitive advertised size.

Is “Display size” in settings the phone’s physical screen size?
Not necessarily. Some phones use “display size” to describe a software scaling setting that changes how large interface elements appear, not the panel’s physical diagonal. ASUS documents a setting at Settings > Display > Display size and text; changing it adjusts the display-size preview. Labels and locations can vary by device and software version. See ASUS Support’s instructions.
How do I measure a phone screen for a screen protector?
Do not choose a protector or privacy filter by diagonal alone. Confirm the exact phone model and the product’s fit guidance. The needed coverage can depend on the visible width and height, glass edges, raised bezels, and camera openings.

As general filter-fit guidance, 3M says to measure viewable height and width for a screen with a raised bezel, or the entire glass display edge to edge for flat front glass. Its measuring guide is written for monitors and laptops, not as a phone-specific fitting chart, so use the distinction only as general guidance and check the phone-specific product fit.

No. A case must match the exact phone model and its exterior shape and dimensions. The display diagonal does not establish the phone’s outside measurements or case fit.
