Link Amazon Music in the Alexa app
- Open the Alexa app and select More > Settings > Preferences > Music & Podcasts > Link New Service.
- Choose the supported music provider, then follow the prompts to link the account.
- To check linked providers, return to Music & Podcasts and open Manage Services. Amazon’s setup guidance is at Amazon’s help page for linking music services.
For a family plan, Amazon says each user needs an individual Amazon account and must link that account in the Alexa app. Some services do not support direct account linking to an Alexa Profile, so account and profile behavior can differ by provider.

Make Amazon Music the default service
In the Alexa app, go to More > Settings > Preferences > Music & Podcasts > Your Default Services, then choose Amazon Music if it is available. This tells Alexa which service to use when a request does not name one. You can still specify another provider in a voice request. Amazon’s instructions are available in its music-service setup help.

Voice commands for Amazon Music
Say “Alexa” followed by a request. Amazon documents examples including:
- “Play [song],” “Play [album],” or “Play [artist].”
- “Play [emotion] music” or “Play jazz music.”
- “Play [station name].”
- “Play .”
- “Play a Prime Playlist.”
- “Play [song] from Prime Music.”
- “Pause,” “Stop,” “Play,” or “Resume.”
- “Shuffle” or “Stop shuffle.”
For example, Amazon’s FAQ gives “Alexa, play Adele.” If Alexa picks the wrong service, name Amazon Music in the request or set it as the default. Supported commands and results vary by region, device, and service features. See Amazon’s Alexa voice-control examples.

What access to Amazon Music may require
In its US-facing FAQ, Amazon says customers in the United States without Prime or an Amazon Music Unlimited subscription can use an ad-supported selection of playlists and stations on compatible Alexa-enabled devices. Amazon describes Amazon Music Prime as a Prime membership benefit and Music Unlimited as a separate subscription with additional features. Availability and plan terms vary; check Amazon Music’s current plan information for your region rather than relying on old prices.

Amazon’s FAQ presents a catalog figure of 100 million songs for both Music Prime and Music Unlimited. This is Amazon’s stated figure; the FAQ does not establish an independently verified count. A compatible Echo is needed for Echo playback. Amazon names Echo Dot as one Alexa-controlled device, but you do not need to buy another Echo if you already have a compatible one.

Fix Amazon Music when it buffers or will not play
Confirm the service and account
- Check that Amazon Music is supported on your Alexa device and available in your country.
- In the Alexa app, confirm the service is linked under Manage Services and selected under Your Default Services, or name it in your voice request.
- If multiple people use the Echo, check the active profile and whether the relevant account is linked. Some providers do not support all profile features.
Amazon notes that not all music services work on Alexa devices, and some providers may not support playback on FireOS devices. See its service-linking guidance.
Improve the Wi-Fi connection
- Reduce congestion on the Wi-Fi network where possible.
- Move the Echo away from walls, metal objects, microwave ovens, and baby monitors. If it is on the floor, place it higher.
- Where supported, try the router’s 5 GHz channel. Amazon’s guidance notes an exception for Amazon Tap.
Restart the Echo and network equipment
Restart the Echo and your network hardware, then try the request again. Amazon’s connectivity recommendations are in its Wi-Fi troubleshooting guidance.
