First, check which speakers you have: “QED speakers” may mean Q Acoustics speakers connected with QED cable. Q Acoustics says, “We design, engineer and voice all Q Acoustics speakers with QED cables.” Its FAQ identifies QED as the cable brand, not the speaker brand. If your speakers are from another manufacturer, use that model’s manual and specifications instead.
For passive speakers, choose an amplifier that supports the speaker’s impedance and falls within its manufacturer’s recommended amplifier-power range. Streaming is a separate requirement: select an amplifier with the services and connections you need, or add a compatible streaming source. Those checks establish whether components are suitable on paper; they cannot guarantee a particular sound or substitute for listening in your room.

What to check before choosing an amplifier
Identify the speaker model and whether it is passive or powered. Passive speakers need an external amplifier to drive them. Powered or active speakers already contain amplification, so check their manual before buying another amplifier. A speaker cable connects components; it does not make an amplifier compatible with a speaker.
For passive speakers, find the manufacturer’s stated nominal impedance and recommended amplifier power. Then compare those figures with the amplifier’s specifications, including its ability to drive the speaker’s load. Do not compare power numbers alone: check that they are specified at the same impedance and under comparable conditions.

- Speaker load: Confirm the amplifier supports the impedance guidance for the exact speaker model.
- Power: Compare the amplifier’s output rating with the speaker maker’s recommended range at the relevant impedance.
- Streaming: Verify the exact services, network or wireless connections, and regional availability for the amplifier model.
- Inputs: Check whether your source can connect directly and whether you need analogue or digital inputs.
What amplifier will work with Q Acoustics speakers?
There is no single answer for every Q Acoustics speaker. Use the specifications for your exact model. For example, Q Acoustics lists the 5020 at 6 Ω nominal impedance, 87.9 dB/W/m sensitivity, and a recommended amplifier power of 25–100 W. These are the 5020’s figures, not a general specification for the brand. See the 5020 specifications from Q Acoustics.
Sensitivity indicates how much sound output a speaker can produce for a given input, but it does not by itself determine the amplifier you need. Room size, listening distance, and desired volume also matter; the cited specifications do not provide enough information to calculate the right output for an individual room.

How to choose between an integrated streaming amp and a separate streamer
Integrated stereo streaming amplifier
An integrated stereo streaming amplifier combines amplification and streaming in one component. It can be a convenient “just-add-speakers” category to consider, but a category description is not a verified match for your particular speakers. What Hi-Fi?’s 2026 stereo amplifier guide describes this type of product. Before choosing a model, check its current specifications for speaker-load support, output ratings, services, and connections.
Amplifier plus a streaming source
If your amplifier does not stream, a compatible network streamer or other audio source can provide that function. Confirm that its output connects to an available amplifier input, and check the services and connection methods supported by both components. Compatibility can depend on the exact model and region.

Installed in-wall or in-ceiling systems
The Q Acoustics E300A is an installation-focused example, not a general-purpose recommendation for bookshelf or floorstanding speakers. Q Acoustics describes it for in-ceiling and in-wall speakers, rates it at 2 × 25 W at 6 ohms, and lists Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, AirPlay 2, and Amazon Music support. See Q Acoustics’ E300A information and confirm current regional service support before choosing it.
When QED speaker-switch impedance advice applies
QED’s impedance guidance cited here concerns its speaker-switch configurations, not a universal rule for connecting one pair of speakers. QED says its switches produce a 4 Ω minimum load with 8 Ω speakers; for 6 Ω speakers, it advises checking whether the amplifier can handle 3 Ω or less. Apply that advice only when using the relevant QED switching arrangement, and follow the switch and amplifier instructions. Read QED’s speaker-switch support guidance.

- HYBRID TUBE AMPLIFICATION: Combines amber-toned vacuum tubes in the preamp circuit with a Class A/B amplifier design, bringing classic tube character and warmth to a modern Hi-Fi listening setup.
- POWERFUL HI-FI PERFORMANCE: Delivers 100 watts per channel RMS at 4 ohms, providing substantial stereo power for larger home audio systems and demanding speaker setups, while classic VU meters and exposed tubes complete the modernized vintage aesthetic.
- VERSATILE CONNECTIVITY: Stream wirelessly with Bluetooth 5.0, connect a computer through the built-in USB DAC, hook up a turntable using the dedicated phono input, or connect analog and digital audio sources through AUX, optical, and coaxial inputs.
- BUILD A COMPLETE 2.1 SYSTEM: Connect passive speakers to the rear speaker outputs and add a powered subwoofer using the dedicated full-range preamp output, giving you an easy way to add more low-end to your stereo system.
- LISTEN YOUR WAY: Fine-tune your sound with bass and treble controls, enjoy private listening through the headphone output, or control volume and playback functions from across the room with the included wireless remote and motorized volume control.
A practical compatibility check
- Read the speaker label or manual. Record the exact model, whether it is passive or powered, its impedance guidance, and its recommended amplifier-power range.
- Check the amplifier’s load capability. Confirm that its specifications cover the speaker’s stated load; account for any speaker switch or other configuration in the system.
- Compare power figures carefully. Use ratings stated at the same impedance and under comparable conditions, and compare them with the speaker maker’s recommendation.
- Verify streaming and connections. Check the services and network options you use, availability for your region, and the inputs needed to connect your sources.
- Check the system type. Make sure an installation amplifier is intended for your setup, and do not add an external amplifier to powered speakers unless the manufacturer’s instructions support that arrangement.
What QED’s uPlay Plus documentation establishes
QED’s product brochure describes uPlay Plus as connecting a Bluetooth-enabled phone or computer to a hi-fi system through an analogue or optical connection for wireless streaming. The brochure documents that product function, but it does not establish present availability or current service compatibility. Check the specific product and service documentation rather than assuming support.
