None is a universal delete switch for data held elsewhere by Google or for chats already reviewed by service providers.
First check whether you use a personal Google Account or a work or school account. Workspace administrators may control activity settings and retention, so personal-account instructions may not apply.

What each Gemini privacy setting controls

These controls have different purposes. For example, turning off Keep Activity is not the same as disconnecting Gmail, and neither action necessarily removes a detail Gemini has already remembered.
How do I turn off Gemini activity?
For a personal account, open Gemini Apps Activity or My Activity and use the activity controls to review or change Gemini activity. Google’s help instructions describe reviewing and deleting activity and turning Keep Activity off; labels and availability can vary by account and platform. - Open Gemini Apps Activity or My Activity while signed in to the Google Account you use with Gemini.
- Review or delete saved Gemini activity, or open the activity setting to turn Keep Activity off.
- If you want automatic deletion instead, select an available auto-delete period: 3 months, 18 months, 36 months, or indefinite. Google identifies 18 months as the default.
Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub, updated September 24, 2026, says that with Keep Activity on, chats and shared content may be saved in activity and used to provide, develop, and improve services, including generative AI models. Turning it off changes handling of future chats; it does not mean Gemini stops processing prompts to provide replies.
Google says future chats with Keep Activity off are not shown in Activity and are not used to train its AI models unless you choose to send feedback. The same policy says those chats are retained for 72 hours to provide a response and help protect Google, its users, and the public. Feedback may be handled differently, so do not treat Keep Activity off as a promise that no data is processed or retained.

How do I delete my Gemini chats?
Use Gemini Apps Activity or My Activity to delete saved activity. You can also delete individual conversations from Gemini’s recent chats; the exact controls may differ by platform. Google describes chat management in its Gemini recent chats help page.

Google says chats already reviewed by service providers are disconnected from your account and may be retained for up to three years, even after you delete Gemini activity. Deleting Gemini activity also does not delete data saved in other Google services. An empty activity page is therefore not proof that every related copy or processing record has been erased.
Keep Activity and other Google controls are separate. Turning it off or deleting Gemini activity does not change settings such as Web & App Activity or Location History, and does not delete data held by services such as Gmail or Photos.
How do I stop Gemini from accessing Gmail or other apps?
Review Gemini’s Connected Apps settings and disconnect any service you do not want Gemini to access. Google’s Connected Apps guidance explains how app-based personalization and data deletion interact.

- To stop future access: disconnect the relevant app in Connected Apps.
- To remove information already used in Gemini: delete the relevant Gemini chats as well as disconnecting the app.
- If you delete or update information in the source app: the change may take days to affect the Gemini experience. Deleting it at the source alone does not immediately remove matching material from Gemini Apps Activity.
How do I turn off Gemini Memory?
Memory is a separate personalization setting for using information from past Gemini chats. In Gemini settings, look for the Memory or Personal Intelligence controls and turn off personalization from past chats. Google’s memory help page describes the control and ways to manage remembered information.
If Gemini has remembered a particular detail, Google’s guidance includes correcting Gemini directly or deleting the chats that contain that information. If the detail came from a connected app, delete the relevant Gemini chats and disconnect that app as well.

What changes for work or school accounts?
Personal-account instructions do not necessarily apply to Google Workspace accounts. Google says a work or school administrator may control Gemini activity settings; users may be unable to change retention or see how long chats are retained. If the controls are missing or locked, contact your Workspace administrator rather than assuming the setting is off.
How to choose the right setting
- Concerned about saved Gemini history or model improvement? Review Keep Activity, delete existing activity if appropriate, and choose whether future activity should be kept.
- Concerned about Gmail or another connected service? Review Connected Apps and disconnect the service. Remove relevant Gemini chats separately if you want to address information already used.
- Concerned about responses based on past conversations? Turn off Memory or correct/delete the particular remembered information.
- Trying to remove all Google data? Gemini activity deletion is not a substitute for managing the relevant Google service and account settings separately.
Google’s published durations are policy statements, not a guarantee that every user’s data follows an identical timeline in every circumstance. Check the settings and help pages for the account, region, and platform you use.
