You can review its next payment date, change the offered plan or payment frequency, or cancel future renewal on the web, PS5, or PS4. Cancellation ordinarily leaves benefits active until the period already paid for ends; payment options and refund rules depend on your region.
The key is to use the control that matches your goal: check the payment date before the next renewal, choose Change Plan to review available plans or frequencies, and choose Cancel Subscription to stop future subscription payments. Canceling is not the same as requesting a refund, and a low wallet balance or removing a saved payment method is not a substitute for cancellation.

You can use Account Management on the web or the subscription settings on a PS5 or PS4. The right route depends mainly on which device is convenient; all three routes are intended to help you manage the membership on the account that holds it. Menu wording can vary by system software and region, so treat the paths below as guides rather than assuming every screen will look identical.

Menu wording can differ by region and system software. On PS4, PlayStation’s UK plan-management guidance also gives this route: Settings > Account Management > Account Information > PlayStation Subscriptions. If a menu does not match, use Account Management on the web or look for the subscription controls under the account’s payment and subscription settings.
Check your PlayStation Plus payment date
Open PlayStation Plus in the subscription screen and check the payment date before changing the membership. This is the date relevant to an upcoming renewal. Keep it distinct from the date through which access remains available after cancellation: the first concerns the next payment, while the second concerns the end of the period already paid for.
Checking first helps you understand whether a change is urgent and whether a cancellation has taken effect before the next billing date. If you cannot see the membership, verify that you are signed in to the account that purchased it. The date and plan shown in that account are more useful than an estimate based on when you remember signing up.
Before acting, identify what you need to know:
- Want to know when a charge may be due? Look for the next payment date in the subscription details.
- Already canceled and want to know how long benefits remain? Look for the paid-through or membership-end date shown for the subscription. Cancellation ordinarily leaves access active until that period ends.
- Not sure which account owns the membership? Check the subscription screen while signed in to the account used to purchase it. A membership tied to a different account may not appear in the account you are currently viewing.
These dates answer different questions. The next payment date helps you manage an upcoming renewal; the paid-through date helps you understand the remaining access after cancellation. Do not assume that canceling makes benefits disappear immediately or that an upcoming payment date is the same as the date access ends.
Change your membership plan or payment frequency
- Sign in to Account Management on the web, or open the subscription settings for the relevant account on your PS5 or PS4.
- Select PlayStation Plus and choose Change Plan or the corresponding plan-change option.
- Review the plans and payment frequencies actually offered to your account, then select the one you want.
- Read the displayed charge or adjustment details and confirm only if they match your expectations.
The change flow is where you should compare the options available for your particular account. PlayStation’s UK guidance says to select a new plan and payment frequency. Do not assume that every plan or billing interval is offered to every member, or that an option shown in guidance will be available in every country. The plan list and amount shown in your own account are the useful details to review before confirming.
PlayStation’s UK guidance uses an illustrative calculation involving a 12-month Essential subscription, six months remaining, and example prices of $79.99 and $159.99 to explain a prorated upgrade. Those figures are examples, not current prices or a quote for your account. The calculation illustrates that remaining time may be considered in an upgrade adjustment; use the amount shown during your own plan-change flow rather than trying to apply the example prices yourself.
Changing a plan or its frequency is not the same as canceling the subscription. A plan change selects a different offered membership arrangement; cancellation is the control for stopping future renewal. If you are comparing options because you no longer want recurring payments, do not choose a different plan as a substitute for canceling.

- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Before confirming a change, check the selected plan, frequency, and charge or adjustment displayed on screen. If the available offer or amount is not what you expected, do not rely on an illustrative price from another market or a past example. Return to the account details or consult local PlayStation guidance for the plan options that apply to your region.
Cancel your subscription to stop future renewal
- Open the subscription screen for the account that has PlayStation Plus.
- Select Cancel Subscription and follow the on-screen confirmation steps.
- Return to the subscription details to check the status and the date shown for the membership.
On the web, sign in to Account Management, choose Subscription, and select Cancel Subscription beside PlayStation Plus. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Subscriptions > PlayStation Plus > Cancel Subscription. On PS4, go to PlayStation Plus > Manage Membership > Subscription > Cancel Subscription. If a label or screen differs, menu wording may be affected by the region or system software.
PlayStation’s US PlayStation Plus Usage Terms describe the service as an automatically recurring subscription, charged at the then-current regular PlayStation Store price and at the frequency selected at purchase, until canceled. That statement is specific to the US terms; it should not be treated as a universal description of every market’s billing rules.
If you decide to keep the membership after canceling, PlayStation says the account may show Reactivate Subscription before the next payment date. Check the account’s current status rather than assuming a cancellation can or cannot be reversed in every circumstance.
Recommended Free Tools
Use the cancellation control even if you have removed a saved payment method or expect the wallet to be empty. Those actions do not themselves cancel the subscription. In particular, PlayStation’s US terms say that when the wallet is short at payment time, the default payment method on file may be charged to cover the subscription fee. Canceling is the clear action for stopping future subscription payments.
What happens after cancellation
Canceling ordinarily stops future renewal; it does not immediately remove the benefits covered by the period you have already paid for. Those benefits generally remain available through the end of that period. The membership end date is therefore important if you are deciding when to use remaining benefits.
When the membership ends, subscription-dependent benefits—including online multiplayer, online storage, and monthly games—are no longer available. A monthly game claimed through PlayStation Plus becomes unavailable after the membership ends. By contrast, redeemed Plus packs and avatars, as well as purchases made at a Plus discount, remain yours.
Rank #3
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
This distinction can help when deciding whether to cancel now. If the aim is only to prevent another payment, cancellation can be made while the current paid period is still active; the usual effect is that access continues until that period ends. If you are weighing the date to cancel against a benefit you still use, keep the paid-through date in view rather than expecting cancellation to end access at once.
It is also useful to distinguish monthly games from other items in your account. A monthly game obtained through Plus is tied to the active membership for availability, while redeemed Plus packs and avatars and purchases made at a Plus discount remain yours after the membership ends. Do not treat those different categories as having identical post-membership access.
Payment methods, wallet funds, and renewal charges
PlayStation Store support provides options for adding funds to a wallet and saving supported payment methods. Accepted methods and their availability depend on the country associated with the account. Eligible payment information may also be saved when you add a payment method while shopping. Check the local PlayStation Store information and the options shown in your account for the applicable choices.
A wallet top-up or PlayStation Store gift card can be a way to fund a purchase, subject to regional redemption and payment rules. Adding wallet funds does not cancel auto-renewal, and removing a saved payment method should not be treated as cancellation. Use Cancel Subscription to stop future subscription billing.
PlayStation’s US terms say that if the wallet balance is too low when a subscription payment is due, the default payment method on file may be charged to cover the shortfall. A low wallet balance alone is therefore not a reliable way to prevent a renewal charge. This billing detail is from the US terms, so check the terms that apply to your account’s region.
Think of wallet funding and subscription management as separate tasks. Adding wallet funds may help pay for a purchase when allowed by local rules, but it leaves the subscription setting unchanged. Likewise, having no funds in the wallet does not necessarily prevent a renewal. If you want the membership to continue, review the payment methods and funding options supported in your market; if you want it to stop renewing, cancel the subscription itself.
Payment method limits and accepted payment types are not universal. PlayStation Store support pages can give country-specific details, including limits on saved methods, but a limit or option on a US support page should not be assumed to apply in another country. The account’s local store and payment settings are the best place to confirm which methods can be used or saved.

Refunds depend on your region and circumstances
Refund eligibility and calculation are not the same everywhere. The linked PlayStation refund guidance covered here is US-specific: it says an eligible subscription refund may be reduced to account for use, including online play, downloading monthly games, or cloud-storage use. It also says a free-trial period counts toward the 14-day cancellation period in the guide’s example.
Those points are not a worldwide refund guarantee. Before requesting a refund, use the PlayStation refund page for your region and check the local rules, eligibility conditions, and timing that apply to the purchase. Do not assume that canceling a subscription automatically produces a refund; cancellation and a refund request are separate matters.
If you are considering a refund, keep three questions separate: whether you have canceled future renewal, whether you meet the refund rules where you live, and how any use of the subscription affects the amount. The US guidance indicates that use such as online play, downloading monthly games, or using cloud storage can be considered when calculating an eligible refund. It also treats a free-trial period as part of the 14-day period in its example. Your region’s own guidance controls, so use it rather than assuming the same window, calculation, or eligibility applies everywhere.
Compare the available routes and actions
The web, PS5, and PS4 routes are alternatives for reaching account subscription controls. Use whichever route is easiest to access, but keep the account and task in mind. If you only need a date, open the membership details; if you want a different offered arrangement, use the plan-change flow; if you want future renewal to stop, choose cancellation. For a refund question, consult the regional refund guidance rather than looking for a refund option in the cancellation steps.
| Your goal | What to use | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Find when the next payment is due | PlayStation Plus subscription details on the web, PS5, or PS4 | The payment date displayed for the account’s membership |
| Choose a different plan or frequency | Change Plan or the corresponding plan-change option | The options and amount shown for your account and region |
| Stop future recurring payments | Cancel Subscription | The subscription status and membership date after cancellation |
| Understand how long benefits remain | The membership details after cancellation | The end of the already-paid period, not just the next payment date |
| Ask about a refund | The PlayStation refund page for your region | Local eligibility, timing, and how use may affect a refund |
This comparison also helps avoid common mistakes. A plan change does not serve the same purpose as cancellation. A wallet top-up is not a renewal setting. A cancellation does not automatically mean immediate loss of access or an automatic refund. Choose the action that matches the outcome you want, then verify the resulting subscription details in the account.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If the subscription control or expected option is missing
- The membership is not listed: Check that you are signed in to the PlayStation account that purchased it, then open that account’s subscription page.
- The menu labels differ: System software and region can affect wording. Try the web route through Account Management, or use the alternate PS4 account-information route listed above.
- You want to stop a charge: Cancel the subscription itself. Do not rely on an empty wallet or on removing a payment method.
- You are considering a plan change: Review the actual plan and amount displayed for your account; illustrative examples are not current offers.
- You need a refund: Consult the local PlayStation refund guidance, since eligibility and treatment of used benefits can vary by region.
If you are unsure whether a change has taken effect, return to the subscription details and check the status and date shown there. Keep the distinction between a scheduled payment and the end of the paid period in mind: these dates are useful for different decisions. If an option is not offered in your account, do not assume the same plan, frequency, or price shown in another country’s guidance will be available to you.

- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Does canceling PlayStation Plus end my benefits right away?
Ordinarily, no. Cancellation stops future renewal, while benefits remain available through the end of the period already paid for. When the membership ends, subscription-dependent benefits such as online multiplayer, online storage, and monthly games are no longer available.
If I cancel, do I keep games or items I got through PlayStation Plus?
A monthly game claimed through Plus is unavailable after the membership ends. Redeemed Plus packs and avatars, and purchases made at a Plus discount, remain yours.
Can I prevent renewal by removing my payment method or leaving my wallet empty?
Do not rely on either action to cancel a subscription. Use Cancel Subscription to stop future billing. PlayStation’s US terms say a default payment method on file may be charged to cover a wallet shortfall when a payment is due; billing details may vary by region.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I change my PlayStation Plus plan or payment frequency?
Use the Change Plan option in Account Management or the account’s subscription settings on PS5 or PS4. Review the actual plans, frequencies, and charge or adjustment shown for your account. Offers and amounts can vary by market.
Does canceling PlayStation Plus automatically give me a refund?
No. Cancellation and a refund request are separate. Refund rules depend on your region. The US PlayStation refund guidance says an eligible subscription refund may be reduced to account for use such as online play, downloading monthly games, or cloud-storage use; check your local PlayStation refund page for the rules that apply to you.
What if PlayStation Plus does not appear in my subscription settings?
Confirm that you are signed in to the account that purchased the membership. If you are, try Account Management on the web or another listed console route; menu names can vary with region and system software.
The Bottom Line
Use the PlayStation Plus subscription page for the account that owns the membership. Check the next payment date before making a change, use Change Plan to review the options actually offered to you, and use Cancel Subscription to stop future renewal. Cancellation ordinarily preserves access through the paid period, but wallet and refund rules vary by region, so confirm those details in your local PlayStation account and support guidance.
