To limit what Gemini can access on Android, check three separate controls: the Google app’s Android permissions, Gemini’s Connected Apps, and Gemini Apps Activity. They do different jobs: Android permissions govern device capabilities such as contacts, calls, and SMS; Connected Apps controls service integrations; and Activity controls saved Gemini conversations. Changing one does not automatically change the others.

Google’s documentation primarily describes personal accounts. Work or school accounts may have Workspace administrator-managed settings. Menus, permissions, eligible features, and connected services can vary by Android version, manufacturer, device, platform, country, language, and account.

How to stop Gemini from accessing contacts, calls, or texts on Android
Gemini uses the Google app’s Android permissions, even if you have also installed the Gemini app. To change a permission, use this path; Android labels and navigation can differ slightly by device:

- Choose Google. If it is not visible, tap the option to view all apps.
- Tap Permissions.
- Select a permission, such as Contacts, Phone, or SMS, and choose Don’t allow to revoke it.
Revoke only the permissions you want to restrict. Google says Phone permission is required for Gemini calling; Contacts and Call Logs are optional aids that can improve contact matching. For messaging, Google says the Google app needs SMS permission, while Contacts access can help Gemini reach contacts that are not synced to your Google Account. After removing a permission, the related action may no longer work. For example, if you ask Gemini, “Can you call them?” or “Call [contact full name],” it may be unable to place the call if Phone access is denied. Messages or contact lookups may likewise fail when their required access is unavailable.
Contacts can have more than one access path
Android’s Contacts permission is one route to device contacts, including contacts that are not synced to your Google Account. Separately, Gemini has a setting labeled Contact info from your devices or Save contact info from your signed-in devices. Google says this can make device contacts easier to interact with across Google services. Review this setting as well as Android permissions if your aim is to limit contact information.

Personal Intelligence is another distinct connection. Google’s current help page describes a Contacts connection that can include Google Contacts and contact information from a signed-in device; it lists eligibility as US-only, English-only, and AI Ultra. How to disconnect a service from Gemini
Connected Apps is separate from Android permissions. To disconnect an integration, open Gemini’s Settings & help (or Settings), choose Connected Apps, and switch off the service you want to disconnect. In Gemini on the web, Google documents Settings > Connected Apps. Some users may see Personal Intelligence > Connected Apps first.
Review the specific actions listed for each connected app rather than assuming that one disconnection removes every device capability. Google says Android Phone, Messages, WhatsApp, and Device assistance may be available even when Keep Activity is off; other integrations may be unavailable. How to review or delete Gemini activity
Use Gemini Apps Activity to review and delete saved activity. Google’s controls let you remove individual items, choose a date range, or manage retention. For personal accounts, the available auto-delete periods are 3, 18, or 36 months, with 18 months as the default. Work and school account retention may instead be controlled by a Workspace administrator. Google’s activity guide

Turning off Keep Activity changes whether conversations are saved in Gemini Apps Activity, but it is not the same as disabling calls, SMS, or connected services. Google says conversations may still be kept in the account for up to 72 hours to provide the service and process feedback, even when they do not appear in Gemini Apps Activity. If you previously used Google Assistant for calls or messages, Google says up to 90 days of saved Assistant communications request history may be imported from Web & App Activity into Gemini Apps Activity. This is a possible maximum, not a guarantee that every user has imported history. Google’s privacy hub

What disconnecting and deleting do not remove
- Disconnecting a Connected App, or deleting data within that connected service, does not delete Gemini Apps Activity.
- Deleting Gemini Apps Activity does not erase information another app already received from Gemini. That app handles retained data under its own policies.
- Google says changes to Connected Apps may take days to affect the Gemini experience in some cases.

Web, iPhone, and managed accounts
The Android permission steps above apply to Android and govern device-level access through the Google app. On the web and iOS, the relevant options and available integrations are not identical; use the Connected Apps and Gemini Apps Activity controls available for your platform. If you use a work or school account, ask your Workspace administrator which activity and retention controls apply.
