Use Adaptive Power or Low Power Mode when needed, and check battery health if the drain continues. Results vary with iPhone model, signal, usage, and battery condition; Apple does not publish a guaranteed runtime gain for these adjustments.
Find what is using battery before changing settings
Open Settings > Battery and review the usage chart, leading apps, and activity details. Apple’s Battery screen can compare the current day with the previous seven days on devices running iOS 26 or later. On iOS 18 and later, it can also show Insights about temporary activity such as an update or device setup. Apple’s battery-drain guidance explains these indicators.

- Background Activity: An app may be doing work while it is not on screen, such as playing music or using location.
- No Mobile Coverage and Low Signal: The iPhone was searching for a signal or operating with weak reception.
- Notifications: Alerts can wake the display, so unusually frequent notifications may contribute to drain.
Use the activity shown to decide what to adjust. If one app is responsible, review how and when you use that app rather than turning off unrelated features. A single day’s chart is a clue, not by itself proof that the battery is worn.
Reduce display power without making the screen hard to use
Keep Auto-Brightness enabled or lower brightness to a comfortable level. You can adjust brightness in Control Center or at Settings > Display & Brightness. Auto-Brightness is at Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. Apple recommends automatic adjustment or dimming as ways to reduce display power use. Apple’s brightness instructions show the controls.

Consider Always-On display only if your model has it
If your iPhone supports Always-On display and you do not need persistent information on the Lock Screen, you can try switching it off at Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On Display. Apple lists iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, iPhone 17, and iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max as supported; Always-On display is off by default on iPhone Air. It already dims or turns fully dark in some situations, so disabling it is an optional trade-off, not a universal fix.
Choose efficient connectivity when it fits
Apple Support puts it plainly: “Wi-Fi uses less battery power than cellular networks.” Connect to Wi-Fi when it is available and suitable. A weak cellular signal can also increase battery use as the iPhone searches for coverage or maintains a connection. Apple’s battery guidance covers both factors.

On iPhone 12 and later and iPhone SE (3rd generation), 5G Auto can switch to LTE when 5G does not provide a noticeably better experience. This can avoid unnecessary 5G use without requiring you to turn cellular service off. Airplane Mode is a narrower option if you will be somewhere without coverage for an extended period, but it interrupts wireless access and is not a good routine setting if you need to stay reachable.
Use power modes according to how much convenience you can trade

Adaptive Power: automatic adjustments on supported iPhones
Adaptive Power is designed for days when your use is higher than usual. Apple says it can slightly lower brightness, limit background activity, make performance adjustments, and turn on Low Power Mode at 20%. It requires iOS 26 or later and is supported on iPhone 16 models, iPhone 17 models, iPhone Air, and iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Apple’s current guidance lists it as on by default for iPhone 17 models and iPhone Air, and off by default for the listed iPhone 16 models and iPhone 15 Pro models. Availability and defaults are model-specific and can change; check your device’s Battery settings. Apple’s Adaptive Power guide has the current details.

Low Power Mode: a temporary reserve
Low Power Mode is useful when conserving the remaining charge matters more than keeping every background feature active. It reduces or disables features including Mail fetch, Hey Siri, Background App Refresh, and some visual effects. On ProMotion models, it limits refresh rate to 60 fps, and some tasks may take longer. Apple says it switches off automatically once the iPhone reaches 80% charge or higher. Apple’s Power Modes guide describes the behavior.
- On iPhone 15 and later, open Settings > Battery > Power Mode > Low Power Mode.
- On iPhone 14 and earlier, open Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode.
Because Low Power Mode changes background behavior, treat it as an on-demand option rather than the first fix if you want all features to run normally.

Allow time after an update, then check battery health
If unusual drain began just after an iOS update or device setup, background tasks may still be running. Apple advises waiting a few days and checking again; temporary update activity can also affect thermal performance. Apple Support’s guidance explains why the Battery screen may show update-related activity.
